Are your children the same height?

Mine are only little, so I can't tell how tall they will be.
I think my son will be a tall adult though, as he's the tallest child in his nursery and has huge feet!
Myself and husband are both around 5'7".
DH reckons son won't be more than an inch or so taller than us. The formula you can use to predict adult height says the same thing.
This is what makes me wonder though... a friend has 3 boys all with the same mother. They are 6'6", 6'4" and 6 feet exactly.
My friend is 6'5" so not a surprise that he had tall boys.
Using the formula to predict height, surely the boys should be a similar height!
Me and my sister are the exact same height, as are DH and his brother.
Does anyone have siblings or children that massively differ in height?

I am teeny and slim and my husband is 6 foot and chunky. We have a tall leggy daughter and a short curvy daughter.

SpiderinaWingMirror · 20/05/2022 22:09

My dd1 is 5'4" as an adult
Dd2 is 5'2 and an adult
Dd3 is 5'7 and 14

I'm 5'1, DH 6'2.

RosesAndHellebores · 20/05/2022 22:15

DH is 5'11-1/2, size 10 shoes
I am 5'7, size 4.5 shoes (v small for my height)

My parents were 5'3, mother; 5'8" father (I am v tall for my family). Mother is a size 4 shoe and father was a 7.5.

DH's parents were 5'4 mother; 5'9 father (MIL was short for her family) DH's sisters are 5'11 and 5'3. They all have big feet.

DS is about 5'10, size 9.5 shoes, dd is 5'3, size 3.5 shoes.
Paradoxically DS was just under average height until about 14 (50th centile - just); dd was one of the tallest in the class until year 6 (90th centike from birth until about 11.5).

Not straightforward. I’ve got a female family member who is several inches taller than her father and a teen niece who has grown 6in since she started her periods (still growing). Also have niece who is average height with two tall parents.

DelphiniumBlue · 20/05/2022 22:21

DH and his brothers are all within an inch of each other. My sons are within a 2 inch range of each other and their father.
But my both parents are way shorter than their siblings - Dad was about 7" shorter than his brothers, and Mum almost a foot shorter than her sister. There's nothing to suggest they weren't full siblings.

easyday · 20/05/2022 22:31

My son was one of the youngest snd biggest in his class until the age of about 13. He topped out just below 6', same height as his Dad but shorter than both grandfathers. He had two half brothers - one 6' 2" one 5' 9".
I'm 5' 10" and my daughter is 5' 6.5" and stopped growing at age 12 (17 now).
So those formulas aren't that accurate in my opinion.

MamaKas · 01/06/2022 16:15

We have two daughters, 20 and 21 years. The older one has topped off at 5'11", the younger at 5'5". Between my husband and I their ancesters comprise 8 different nationalities (American melting pot). Their upbringing has been the same. Their eating habits similar. The only differences I can see in this department is the older one is much more active than the younger (dancer vs. artist), and the older was successfully breast fed while the younger had to go on formula. I have wondered if the level of activity or the breast milk could be the cause...or the differing amounts of ancestral DNA.

MamaKas · 01/06/2022 16:17

Also...the younger one was taller than her sister at similar ages when they were little, but stopped growing at the onset of menses at 12.

SirChenjins · 01/06/2022 16:17

DH, DS1(24) and DS2 are all 6’ 1”. DS2 is 15 so may grow a bit yet.

I’m 5’ 1.5” and DD is 5’5”.

Parky04 · 01/06/2022 16:32

DS22 5ft 9 and DS20 6ft 2.

GettingStuffed · 07/06/2022 19:54

My eldest is 6' 5" ,my middle 6'2" both boys, my daughter is 5' 3" . I'm quite tall as is my dad, my husband is only slightly taller than me, my mum and mother in law are/were both short.

I'm not quite 5ft, my DB is 6'5"

no siblings I know are the same height.

Nanalisa60 · 07/06/2022 19:59

I have one son 6’4 and the other is 6’1 , the 6’4 one was always the better eater, and drank loads of mike , the shorter one was not a good eater, and still not a good eater.

Dahliafairy · 20/10/2022 08:04

DH is 6’4, I am 5’4 and my family are not tall. DS (20) is 6’2 and DD (18) is 6’1. DH’s parents are not tall but his sister is 5’10 and all her children are over 6 foot. Apparently there was a great grandfather who was very tall so it must be in the genes somewhere.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 20/10/2022 08:15

If you are talking about the formula in the red book, it also depends on birth height centile.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 20/10/2022 08:23

I don’t have an adult child yet and I only have one but my sister and I are exactly the same height. My mum doesn’t even really reach 5ft although she claims to 😂 and my did is only 5’6. My sister and I are 5’4 so we did well to get to that height I think!

notacooldad · 20/10/2022 09:08

Mine arent.
Ds1 is 6ft 3 and Ds2 is 5ft 9
My 5 year old daughter is taller than my 7 year old daughter!
That could even out though by the time they reach the teen years. It was similar with my cousins.
My mum is 4ft 11 and I'm 5ft5 Dad is 5ft9.
Me (f) and my brother are the same height.(5ft5)

SirChenjins · 20/10/2022 09:55

Yes - weirdly DH and our 2 DSs are exactly the same height. DD taller than me but smaller than her brothers.

ShutYerYapAndGetOnWithIt · 20/10/2022 09:57

I'm 5ft 1
husband 5ft 9
Sons are 41 and 38. Eldest is 6ft 2, Son2 is 5ft 10

vdbfamily · 20/10/2022 10:03

My dad is 6'1, mum 5'7 and myself and 3 brothers range from 5'11 to 6'2
I am 6'1 and DH is 6'7" . We had girl boy girl and heights are 6'3" 6'6" and 5'11". Son may still be growing but girls have fortunately stopped!!

Deadringer · 20/10/2022 10:05

I am 5' 4" and my dh is 5' 8". Ds is 6' 1", dd1 is 5' 5", and dd2 is 5' 8". They say that children usually grow taller than their (same sex) parent, and in my very large extended family that is true. The rule of doubling their height at age 2 only applies to boys I believe, for girls it's more like 18 months.

FinnysTail · 13/11/2022 03:35

I’m 5’5. My DC’s father is 5”8. Our two adult sons are 6’1. Our adult dd is 5’7.

RampantIvy · 13/11/2022 07:36

Both DD and I are 5'7"

xPeaceX · 13/11/2022 16:45

No 7" difference

mushroom3 · 13/11/2022 20:22

I'm 5ft 11, DH 6ft1, DS1 6ft4.5 DS2 6ft5 and DD 5ft8.5
DD is on the same height centile as DH and same height as his mother was
DS1 and 2 are on my centile, 99%
