Are your children the same height?

Mine are only little, so I can't tell how tall they will be.
I think my son will be a tall adult though, as he's the tallest child in his nursery and has huge feet!
Myself and husband are both around 5'7".
DH reckons son won't be more than an inch or so taller than us. The formula you can use to predict adult height says the same thing.
This is what makes me wonder though... a friend has 3 boys all with the same mother. They are 6'6", 6'4" and 6 feet exactly.
My friend is 6'5" so not a surprise that he had tall boys.
Using the formula to predict height, surely the boys should be a similar height!
Me and my sister are the exact same height, as are DH and his brother.
Does anyone have siblings or children that massively differ in height?

ME: 5ft7
DH: 5ft10

DS1 and DS2 are over 6ft....we cannot pin them down exactly as they bicker about who is taller. I reckon 6'2/6'3"
DD is 5ft4

Family wise all the men on both my sides are very tall, and my mother is also 5'7".

DH is the tallest in his family for years! His mum and sister are tiny.

TheCreamCaker · 08/11/2021 18:49

My sons are adults. Eldest is 6ft 2, other son is 5ft 10.

I'm 5ft 1, husband (dad to both sons) is 5ft 9

Benjispruce5 · 13/11/2021 11:03

As you rightly say op we can’t keep getting taller in each generation as we’d be giants. My DH is 6ft 4 tall, I am average 5ft 5. Both my young adult DDs are 5,4 and 5,3 . Confused

Benjispruce5 · 13/11/2021 11:04

Oh and height prediction at 2 or 3 was right as it said between 5,3 and 5,7. They were always just below 50th percentile.

blobby10 · 22/11/2021 09:02

Dad 6ft 2, Me 5ft 9, All 3 children 10 1/2 lbs when born now early 20s. . DS1 6ft 4 DS2 6ft 6 DD 5ft 6.5 (much to her disgust) 🤣🤣

Greygreenblue · 22/11/2021 09:08

OP haven’t you looked at the height charts in his baby book? Or do they not obsessively measure babies in UK? My kid’s haven’t exactly followed the curve but there is a trend there - all have different predicted adult height. One same as me and the other 2 taller. The “tallest” is currently 5 and the same height as her sister at 6. Counting down the days until she catches her sister actually.

Sh05 · 03/04/2022 04:35

I'm not sure about the whole of UK but I have 5 DCs, none of them have been measured for height since birth.

Sh05 · 03/04/2022 04:36

I'm 5"2
DH 5"6
DS 1 is 5"5 at 18 yrs
DD is 5" at 16 yrs
Ds2 is 5"5 and still growing.

Sh05 · 03/04/2022 04:38

Younger two are only 5&2 yet but 5 ye old seems to be following her eldest brother and can't tell with the 2 yrold

Featuredcreature · 03/04/2022 04:47

I'm 5 ft 3 ex is 5 ft 10 I think, my first child dd is teeny fucking weeny 4ft something, she is 18. As a child she was on 25th centile so God knows how she is so small. I am the tallest of 5 siblings though, my mother was about 5ft 1 sisters also small. Ds1 has had a bit of a growth spurt at 15, he is about 5ft 8 I think haven't measured him, youngest is 12, still short.

Featuredcreature · 03/04/2022 04:55

Most people on mn will have willowy bean poles. It's the meta and always has been.

Sunnytwobridges · 03/04/2022 05:15

I’m 5’6.5 and my Dsis is about 5’1. DM was about 5’3 and DF was 6’1 or 6’2. Everyone was always surprised to see me and my sis differences in height.

KELLOGSspeck · 03/04/2022 05:17

I don't think you can predict all siblings will be similar height but I do think one side or both sides of the family can be known for having height.

I'm 5ft 3 and my other siblings are just under 5ft and another is 5ft 10

Askingforfriend · 03/04/2022 07:38

DH and I are about the same height as you. Our kids are within an inch of each other and just shy of 6'... maybe 5'11"?

Joy247 · 03/04/2022 07:41

The formula is not carved in stone though. My daughter ''should'' be 5'4'' and my son ''should'' be 5'9'' but he was 5'9'' by the time he was 14. He's 15 now. I think he'll grow more. They can get a spurt at about 20 I believe. Daughter nearly 19 so finished growing.

And you often get sisters who are different heights (although, yeh, more than 2 inches difference is unusual for sisters I think) so the formula is not a crystal ball

Sockpile · 03/04/2022 07:42

DH and I are just over 5’7”. DD1 is 5’6”, DD2 is 5’7” and DS(13) is currently 5’10”.
All different heights.

notacooldad · 03/04/2022 07:45

I'm 5ft 3 size 5 shoes
DH is 6ft 2 size 11 shoes
Ds1 is 6ft 4 size 12 shoes (age 25)
Ds2 is 5ft 9 size 8 ( age 22)
We are a mixed bunch!

Joy247 · 03/04/2022 07:49

@lovealwayswins

Also, if the height prediction formula is accurate, then surely every generation would be taller than the one before?
This bit isn't correct Confused

I do think that there was a generation born in the 70s perhaps, their parents were raised with war rationing and they didn't meet their potential heights, and then their children who didn't go without food and had access to healthy foods, they had it in their genes to be taller than their parents' heights.

Now though we've gone the other way again, too much sugar, too much crap. I think children born in the last 15-20 years are not healthier than their parents.

Dd1 is 5.9 dd2 5.8 ds 6 feet dd3 5.6

I am 5.7 and dh is 5.9 they are between 18 and 24 so dd3 may grow a little more.

So I suspect they are similar in height but not fully the same

Ds was nor particularly tall in nursery and primary but really shut up in year 8/9

To me they are all still fairly short as I have 3 uncles over 2 meters 6.7 so even at 6 feet ds is not massively tall to me with my Scandinavian eyes Smile

Blimecory · 03/04/2022 08:05

Dh and I have twoDDs. Both adult now. There’s 6 inches difference between them. One is 5’7” and the other is 5’1”.

CharSiu · 17/05/2022 10:23

My two children could not have been more different in height. DD was 5ft 1 and took after my side of the family, I’m Chinese and everyone is small, my Dad was only 5ft 6. DS takes after his Fathers English side of the family and is 6ft 5. I am 5ft 4 and DH is almost 6ft 2.

onlymyselftoanswerto1 · 20/05/2022 21:58

My eldest (22) is 5'7. My youngest (20) is 6'3 🤣 and still growing!

TypicallyTopically · 20/05/2022 22:05

Noti23 · 29/10/2020 23:01

Me: 5’3.5
Sister: 4’11

Same as us. Dad 5 foot 10. Mum 4 foot 10. I got a bit of height off my dad to make me more average

itbemay · 20/05/2022 22:06

I'm 5ft 10, DH is 5ft 11, DD is 5ft 8 and DS is 6ft 3 Smile

Onthegrid · 20/05/2022 22:07

My DGM, DM, me and both my 2 DD are all the same height
But my DSis is at least 2” shorter than us and her DD is the tallest of the younger generation by about 5” so 7” taller than her mum (her dad is very tall)
