Are your children the same height?

Mine are only little, so I can't tell how tall they will be.
I think my son will be a tall adult though, as he's the tallest child in his nursery and has huge feet!
Myself and husband are both around 5'7".
DH reckons son won't be more than an inch or so taller than us. The formula you can use to predict adult height says the same thing.
This is what makes me wonder though... a friend has 3 boys all with the same mother. They are 6'6", 6'4" and 6 feet exactly.
My friend is 6'5" so not a surprise that he had tall boys.
Using the formula to predict height, surely the boys should be a similar height!
Me and my sister are the exact same height, as are DH and his brother.
Does anyone have siblings or children that massively differ in height?

Also, if the height prediction formula is accurate, then surely every generation would be taller than the one before?

My 13 year old ds is taller than me and I'm 5'6" so he's maybe 5'8"/5'9". Dd 17 is around 5'4" and is the shortest in the house. Dh is around 5'11"

lovealwayswins · 29/10/2020 21:33

So the height predictor can't be that accurate then? It's more unpredictable?

Are your children the same height?

I'm 5ft 7, DH is 6ft 1. DD (18) is 5ft 3.5 and DD2 (16) is 5ft 8.5 so quite a difference between them.

lovealwayswins · 29/10/2020 21:35

I wonder if it goes on previous genetics too?
My uncles are all 6 foot plus, my grandad was too.
But then uncles and grandad on my other side are all around 5'8".

My 5 year old daughter is taller than my 7 year old daughter!

XylophoneXavier · 29/10/2020 21:37

DH is around 10 inches taller than his brother even though they have the same mother and father.

Shinygoldbauble · 29/10/2020 21:37

I know sisters who are 5'2 and 5'9. Their mum is short and their dad is tall. They have 2 brothers who are tall too.

pinkbalconyrailing · 29/10/2020 21:38

I'm a foot taller than my sister, same parents.
genetic, nutrition and exercise all play a role.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 29/10/2020 21:38

At one point, one of my DDs was below the 9th height centile and the other on the 95th. I did ask the HV as it seemed so odd... But apparently it happens. Eldest is on the 81st now, youngest just below 75th. Our predictions are that DD1 will be taller than DH and I (5'7 and 5'8) but DD2 about the same height. I reached my full adult height at 12ish. DD1 is 9 and past my shoulder.

ImNotWhoYouThinkIam · 29/10/2020 21:39

That's a crap way to predict height, otherwise brothers would always be the same height. As would sisters.
I was told that a child is half their adult height aged 2.5. That is also bollocks Grin
Im 5ft1. Ex is 5ft10, so by that calculation both DSs should be 5ft7 ish.
DS1 (16) is 5ft10
DS2 (14) is 5ft5 ( his predicted height at 2.5 was 5ft3)
Both are still growing.

worldweary45 · 29/10/2020 21:39

My 16 year old dd is 5 inches taller than her 19 year old sister

Same parents

I'd say it was a significant difference

Parky04 · 29/10/2020 21:42

DS1 is 5ft 9 and DS2 is 6ft 3.

August20 · 29/10/2020 21:46

OP, the first line in the image you posted is that there is no proven way to predict a child's adult height!

The old way used to be doubling the height of your two year old to predict their adult height. I was shorter than my prediction (and shorter than both parents). Can't tell with the next generation yet, they're all still growing.

BorderlineHappy · 29/10/2020 21:46

I have 5 boys,2 are adults. And they are over 6ft tall.
IM 5 ft 2 and their dad is 5 ft 7

The other 2 are 12 and 10 and they are way taller than me.

The youngest is 9 and is the smallest of them all. I can see him being the same size as his df.

OchonAgusOchonO · 29/10/2020 21:47

I'm 5'2", dh is 6'2".

Ds1 is 5'11', dd is 5'5" and ds2 is 6'5"

The big difference between the boys is ds1 got my legs (short) while ds2 got dh's legs (long).

clary · 29/10/2020 21:48

Yes my ds1 is 6ft 6 or something, 199cm anyway. He is a beanpole but there are some medical reasons that I wont bore you with.

DD is smaller than me (I am 5ft 6) at 5ft 3 (deffo done growing).

Ds2 bless him is about 5ft 9 or so but maybe not done yet - he is 17 and plays in goal so could do with being taller tbf. No way he will be as tall as his brother tho. When he was 10-11-12 he was very small (about 5ft) with big feet (like, size 7/8). His feet are now size 10.5 so about right for his height, he has somehow grown into them!

Their dad is 6ft and my dad was also 6ft (born in the 1920s so unusually tall). My mum was shorter than DD is tho.

vintageyoda · 29/10/2020 22:01

My mum was 5' 3", my dad was about 5' 8", my oldest brother is 5' 9", the next brother is 6' 4". There's three of us girls and two of us are 5' 3" like mum, the other is 5'7. There are no hard and fast rules but you need to consider the generation before you too.

Wbeezer · 29/10/2020 22:07

My boys are 6', 5'11 and 5'10, in age order but DS might have an tiny bit more to grow as he's only 16 and boys can keep growing until 18/19.

LolaGrace · 29/10/2020 22:07

I'm 5ft 2 and DH 5'4 and our DD is 5'7

lljkk · 29/10/2020 22:09

In most families I observe, the same-sex kids aren't all the same height or build. My mother dated a fraternal twin who was about 5'8", his twin was 6'2" & completely different build.

The age 16+ males in this household are are all close to 6' tall, but a variety of builds, from scrawny to very buff.

OllyBJolly · 29/10/2020 22:12

DD1 was one of the youngest in her year and the tallest. Didn’t grow past 5’5. DD2 was more ‘average’ but didn’t stop growing until she reached 6 ft. I’m 5ft 8 and their DF 6ft 1.

DramaAlpaca · 29/10/2020 22:13

I'm 5'10 and DH is 5'11.

Our adult sons, in age order, are 6'2, 6' and 6'3. DS1 is a much broader build than his brothers, who are both wiry types.

BluebellsGreenbells · 29/10/2020 22:16

4 sisters. I’m by far the tallest and always have been and I’m not the eldest. I was the smallest born for generations. I was the tallest in my whole family until my children put grew me!

All are currently the same height, DS still growing.

MattBerrysHair · 29/10/2020 22:16

My Dm is 5'4" and Df is 5'10". My sisters are both 5'8" and my brother is 5'11". I'm only 5'2" Hmm
