Great thread cod! We have been building up to this with ds, whose just now 2. He has been telling us the last few days that he needs to "pee pee in the potty" a couple of times a day, so am thinking we need to strike now. I got him a Potty Elmo today. Has anyone else used one of these?

Well ds has asked for the potty once this morning, and has been quite biddable when asked to sit on it by me at haphazard intervals.

Thank you, Cod. without this thread I really wasn't even going to try till about Christmas, honestly. People keep telling me how boys do it later, blah, blah, but it does seem as though this might work.

Sorely tempted to give this a go with ds2 (2.1 years), but it's way too early, even though he's done things quicker due to ds1's influence.

Good luck all, sounds like it's going well .

Great thread, have just spent last 30 minutes reading through it! In need of some help. Just started PT my ds (2.3 yrs)a week ago. Explained that there were no more nappies etc and started using pull ups and introduced the potty properly. She knows when she needs a wee and poo as she dances and fidgets and holds herself. However rather than use the potty when suggested she just says no I not need it and runs off to hide and do the duty!! She even holds it in till I take her off the potty and then wees straight into her pull ups! How can I get her over this stage? We have had no potty success but some on the toilet. I need to watch her constantly and feel like I might go mad if I don't get out soon!

Ds is 2.7, Cod. Dd was well and truly dry by this age, but as I said, all those prophets of doom had put me off starting with my boy!

We have had an accident-free morning, including a family trip to the dentist where the loo was out of order!

Now there's an idea!

Ds just announced that he'd done a poo (I wondered what he was doing in the corner!), but on investigation he hadn't. Wouldn't sit on the potty, but then did poo in his pants. i am still encouraged, because he obviously knew that he was going to poo, even if he didn't want to do it in the potty. There is hope!

If he stays dry all day today, he gets a brand new pair of pants for tomorrow - amazing what 2 year olds get excited about!

reporting in as ds3 is again having his nap with nappy on. Well girls, I think we are getting somewhere albeit very slowly! And to think that I started my own potty training thread yesterday as I felt such a failure here!

Today, ds3 had a few very minor leakages in the morning but sat on potty whenever I told him to, though with no result. Then, he was in garden with no pants on, having wet them, and started jiggling about and holding himself. He said he didn't need potty but then my friend who was there said "he is weeing". I whipped him on the potty and he did quite a big wee! We both agreed it was obvious he was jiggling (therefore knew it was coming) and held on to it after the initial little wee until I got him on the potty! Big breakthrough!

Since did one tiny dribble of wee on request just before going to bed, but any other wees must have gone on the grass. Still, getting there by slow degrees.

I don't know how you girls can contemplate going our with your potty trainees though. If I do that, the nappy has to go back on.

my dd is also 2.5 and I started it today because I've got a few days left off work after visiting rellies. So far 5 pairs of wet knickers and lots of puddles to mop up. She's now sleeping in her pram (in a pull-up) and I'm thinking of abandoning it for the day. Every time she has had a wee I tried to get her to go on the potty 2 seconds before so I think she's avoiding the potty because she doesn't like it. But the toilet hasn't worked either.

Trudstar · 11/08/2005 14:39

It's great to read how other people are getting on and to see that PT is successful eventually-eventhough you feel like the steps are so little you are never going to get there. My dd sounds exactly like your ds purpleturtle but she has just had a poo on the toilet but really didn't want to and ended up with a tear going down her cheek. I really don't want her to be upset about it and wonder whether to just leave it for a while until she stops hiding. Maybe she isn't emotionally ready yet and I'm expecting too much.

Ds is still doing great, dry nappy again this morning and no accidents today either, also no poo yet though.

Tried him on the loo with no training seat at all and he wasn't too impressed but he did stay there so hopefully he'll get used to it and they'll be no more weeing on the floor.

Dp reckons though I should be getting him to stand up for a wee, should I ???

Apart from the poo incident, we've had one pair of wet pants today, so he hasn't earned the brand new pair for tomorrow . He has done pretty well though, I think.
