we've had jute in the sitting room for five years (it came with the house) it is lovely and hard wearing. Agree its scrachy but we have lots of rugs.

Carpet a nightmare here as lots of 'outdoor living' so mud constantly tracked in

Day 2 for me and dd - only 4 puddles so far today and one wee in the potty (6 puddles yesterday, but a good poo in the potty earned her a chocolate button).

I hate these people who tell me it took a couple of hours for their kid to get the hang of it.

thought so! this is a big job, as they say in Scotland

SoftFroggie · 12/08/2005 16:22

two wees in potty -
fed him lots of juice, then 15 mins later imobilised on potty in front of video till something came out (both juice and video very unusual, I am mean mummy).

Feels like cheating, but needed something to be proud of round here

We've had 2 poos in pants, and one pair of wet pants today. Suspect we got a bit complacent when he got good at taking himself to the potty, and forgot to remind him regularly. Also suspect that he wouldn't have done a poo on the potty anyway.

Ds3 has had one wee in potty and one messy poo in pants which took me ages to clean up. Thanks ds3!

He has a choccie button for every success but he does something I have never seen any of my others do with it: he carries it around like a trophy, shouting Chocolate button! Chocolate button! and only licking it very slowly. Naturally, it goes everywhere: all over face, hands and whatever he touches. The one he earned today, I had to say in the end, eat it quick or daddy will have it, before he would put it fully in his mouth!

Lonelymum · 12/08/2005 17:34

Soft Froggie, I meant to say, that little wee followed by a big one is very common. I would advise that if you can get him to do a little wee, then keep him on the potty for another few minutes as more wee is likely to follow. After a bit, they wee the full amount all in one go.

right

so if I was you coddy I would give up now

not a criticism, just a sad reflection of why dd2 is still not 'done'.

will you battle on?

Lonelymum · 12/08/2005 17:36

Course she will!

really? You could be right. It just seems so pointless to keep slogging away when they don't get it.

how long does it take? I find the whole process ghastly.

I reckon on about 2/3 weeks, what do you think Cod? I can't understand people who say it takes six months (famous last words I fear!)

hmmm flashing nose, my dss are 4 yrs apart (with dd in between) but even so I sometimes find ds2's plain pants in ds1's drawer....
DS2's pants tend to have Bob/bill and ben/spacemen on tho; ds1 demands plain pants for school as he is a big boy now.
cod that's crap about nursery, 3 wet shorts they can't have bothered.
wee in bushes every time (ds2 did a wee in an office doorway today, about 10secd before a chap cam out for a fag!), much easier with boys than girls tho....

god knows what it is about boys and poos but the memory of training ds is still fresh in my mind a year later!

(I eventually went to somewhere like Primark and bought packets of pants, like loads and loads, so everytime he pooed in them, I just threw them away to avoid all the messy clearing up. Life is too short to keep cleaning out pooey underpants!)

purpleturtle · 13/08/2005 09:31

of those of you taking off dry nappies in the morning.

The only dry night-time nappy we've had was the one he took off before going to sleep and wetting the bed!

But dd is 4 and only just out of nappies at night, so I'm not really that bothered, I suppose.
