How often do you bath your DCs and wash their hair?

I bath them almost every night, with the exception of saturday night (don't know why - just mine and DH's way of seeming like we are having a night off from the grind I guess!), and occasionally we don't bother if we are back late, have visitors, or if DD is beyond tired. We wash DD and DS's hair once a week - mainly because it is such a debacle with DDs long locks and feisty temperament!!!

I know some people who are religious about bathing the DCs every night without fail, and others who are a bit more chilled out. However I can't help feeling a bit bad when I decide not to bother for a night!!!!

We bath every other night and wash hair once a week.

mamsnet · 17/03/2010 18:28

Same as Mrs Triangle

Dermatologist advised thus.

MummyDoIt · 17/03/2010 18:32

Bath every night, hair wash once a week. Hair wash is always on the night that we go swimming as I can't bear the showers at the pool so always leave it till we get home.

twice a day, usually. once a day at weekends, unless they've soiled or something. hair washing, whenever it needs it! (It's very short you see)

thighsmadeofcheddar · 17/03/2010 18:34

Same as you, except our off night is Friday. Hair wash twice a week, once after swimming and then sunday night.

Seona1973 · 17/03/2010 18:36

my lo's(3 and 6) get a bath or shower 2 or 3 times a week with their hair washed at each of them. When dd has a swimming lesson she washes her hair at the pool and that counts as one of the washing days.

norksinmywaistband · 17/03/2010 18:43

bath and hairwash on saturdays
2 showers during the week
flannel essentials on in between days

CaptainPicardsPineapple · 17/03/2010 18:53

Bath/shower on Wednesdays and Sundays, hair wash on the Sunday. She goes swimming on a Friday and has a shower at the swimming pool but I don't really count that as a 'proper' shower.

I used to give her a bath everyday but realised that, in fact, it's totally unnecessary; she doesn't sweat much and if she does it isn't smelly.

notevenamousie · 17/03/2010 18:53

DD is 3. Hairwash once a week on Sunday with nails etc, unless a terrible mess (paint/ yogurt/ etc). Baths - at least 4 out of the 7 days a week but the days vary as does nursery/ work finish time.

BelleDameSansMerci · 17/03/2010 18:57

Same as notevenamousie... We're late tonight but she still wants a bath (worse luck)!

Mine are 9 and 6 and have 1 bath a week, 4 showers, and 1 hair wash. So they don't bath or shower 2 nights a week max.

9 year old dd is at the stage (armpits-wise) where she needs to bathe this frequently.

AshleyFanjo · 17/03/2010 19:11

Every night but only because he loves it so much. I only used to bathe him twice a week up until he started wanting to bathe.

I don't use any chemicals on him though, just water and a drop of almond oil.

bibbitybobbityhat · 17/03/2010 19:11

And ds isn't brilliant at bum-wiping after the toilet so lots of washing needed for him, too.

mum2phoebs · 17/03/2010 19:31

Bath or shower every night and hairwash every other night.

Hulababy · 17/03/2010 19:33

DD is 7y and I haven't done nightly baths for years. She now has a bath twice a week, where her hair gets washed. Rest of the time she has a wash at the sink in a morning and night - top and tails get done with a flannel for each. She will also try and grab a shower after swimming on a Saturday.

DorotheaPlenticlew · 17/03/2010 19:34

Same as mum2phoebs. DS loves his bathtime play and he generally has a fair bit of food in his hair, so every 2 days hairwash is the least we can get away with.

Portofino · 17/03/2010 19:37

Dd 6 twice a week bath and hairwash, washing the necessary bits in between.

OnlyWantsOne · 17/03/2010 19:37

My DD (3yrs) only bath twice a week max - she has terrible excma and it cracks if I bath her any more than that.... now I feel bad though

nancy75 · 17/03/2010 19:38

dd 4 bath and hairwash everyday, same as me and dp

mrsruffallo · 17/03/2010 19:39

Twice a week.
A bath everyday is madness, waste of water and too much cleaning is no good for them

duckyfuzz · 17/03/2010 19:39

same as hula and captainpicard, twice a week plus after swimming, they aren't dirty, Ithey have better things to do in the evenings!

JackSpratt · 17/03/2010 19:40

twice a week

ds (8)in shower
dd (5) in bath

Hulababy · 17/03/2010 19:41

Once they are at school I have no idea how peple fit in a daily bath routine. Once we have done activities, homework, food, reading etc we struggle enough to fit it relax time let alone anything more.

Also daily baths seemed to dry DD's skin out.

nancy75 · 17/03/2010 19:41

dd comes home from school covered in felt tip, mud, food and is usually hot and sticky - bathing her is not madness, i wouldnt like to go to bed like that, just because she is a child i dont see why she should have lower standars of hygene than myself or dp
