How often do you bath your DCs and wash their hair?

I bath them almost every night, with the exception of saturday night (don't know why - just mine and DH's way of seeming like we are having a night off from the grind I guess!), and occasionally we don't bother if we are back late, have visitors, or if DD is beyond tired. We wash DD and DS's hair once a week - mainly because it is such a debacle with DDs long locks and feisty temperament!!!

I know some people who are religious about bathing the DCs every night without fail, and others who are a bit more chilled out. However I can't help feeling a bit bad when I decide not to bother for a night!!!!

They all have a bath or shower every night.

DS (3) has a hair wash when it needs it, every 3 days at the least, usually every night as he is such a grub. DD1 (12) washes her hair every other day and DD2 (10) washes hers twice a week.

sweetkitty · 17/03/2010 19:42

Twice a week here as well at the moment, will probably up it a bit in the Summer once I am not SPD pregnant and they are outside more covered in mud and sun cream.

Have to be careful with DD2's skin as daily baths dry it out too much.

overmydeadbody · 17/03/2010 19:43

Gosh I don't know, I don't keep track or anything.

Probably once a week, sometiems twice for a bath, hairwashing is sporadic, sometimes DS washes it in the bath, sometimes he doesn't, his argument is that it gets washed once a week at swimming anyway.

I proably supervise washing of hair about once a month, when I also condition and comb it with a nit comb, just to be on the safe side.

I rarely brush his hair either, god I feel a bit now, but it seems the norm in his school for boys to have unbrushed hair...

Hi, once a week bath and wash hair for my dd, 3 yrs. I also have a 8 mth ds, also once a week bath and hair, I mean a baby is getting cleaned so frequently cause of nappies anyway, is nobody bothered about drying out their cd's skin?

Boobz · 17/03/2010 19:51

Is this an age thing? DD is 1 and is bathed every night and her hair is washed every night.

Will I cut this down as she gets older? I'm of the same thinking as nancy75 -- "I wouldnt like to go to bed like that, just because she is a child i dont see why she should have lower standars of hygene than myself or dp".

Will I look back in 2 years and think "god I was precious"??

M1SSUNDERSTOOD · 17/03/2010 19:52

Give DSs a shower twice weekly (once at pool). They are 7 and 4 and even this is too much according to them.!

TheCatAteMyGymsuit · 17/03/2010 19:57

DD 3 has prob a max of 4 baths a week and one hairwash. She also has dry skin.
It's not the same as adults bathing, 3 year olds don't really smell, do they? Plus I slather myself in body lotion every time I have a bath or shower (admittedly sometimes twice a day!) but can't be faffed to do that with dd. She doesn't need it!

thisisnotwhoyouthink · 17/03/2010 20:00

Every night. They love it and it is part of their routine. It does vary in length tho! some days it is a quick splash and others it is a long wrinkled fingers affair! Depends on how tired I am and whether they are being silly or not

orienteerer · 17/03/2010 20:02

DS (7) bath every night (unless had late playdate or similar), hair once per week(ish).

Marne · 17/03/2010 20:03

Once a week (sometimes twice) mainly because its a night-mare trying to bath 2 autistic children (one of which hates water and the other wont stay still). Also they both get dry skin if they bath too often.

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 17/03/2010 20:03

DS 18mths- 2-3 times a week hair and bath. Don't use anything in the bath apart from some baby soap to wash his bum and willy. I use Johnssons on his hair with the conditioner as the back is like a birds nest.

expatinscotland · 17/03/2010 20:05

Every other night and their hair, too.

They are 6, 4 and 1 and still all go into the bath together.

FairyMum · 17/03/2010 20:06

I aim for twice a week. Sometimes just once a week In the summer a bit more if its really hot as its a nice way to cool down. Children don't get as dirty/smelly as adults. They wash with a flannel (face and bottom) every day.

missmoopy · 17/03/2010 20:07

Around 2 -3 times a week. She spends so long in the bath playing and "swimming" that we would get nothing else done if bathed more often!

Once a week. Following on to what I had at that age, really.

muggglewump · 17/03/2010 20:12

4 times a week at home and again after swimming on Fridays.

Shower unless she asks for a bath.

She's 8.

Blimey what a big difference - from once a week to twice a day!!!!

Well, I feel decidedly better now. I think we will probably carry on as is, because DH does most of bathtime anyway and we find it really hard to get DD (3.5y) to stand still and stop making a scene long enough to give her a top/tail wash. She really enjoys the bath and it gets her clean without too much trauma.

Will be much more chilled out about going a few days in a row without bathing them now though. Thanks!

Once, maybe twice a week. They don't smell; their hair doesn't get greasy and baths dry their sensitive skin out. They really don't need a bath more than once or twice a week.

Also, by the time they get home, from school and activites, at 5 or 6 at night. They've only really got time for their dinner and a bit of reading and quick play.

They do get bathed more in summer as they get more dirty and we have more time.

bibbitybobbityhat · 17/03/2010 21:04

I can't help feeling once a week is too little in this day and age. All that time with an unwashed bottom seems wrong, somehow.

[prim]

At the same time, I think every day is unnecessary, unless you particularly enjoy doing it and your dc don't have excema or other dry skin conditions.

OTTMummA · 17/03/2010 23:22

DS has a shower every morning and a bath every night, wash his hair about twice a week.

you see i have a shower in the mornings, he comes in with me, and DH is the bath person at night after work, and he has DS in with him.

I need a shower everyday, and DS gets messy everyday so he needs it.
