Do you ever let your daughter go knickerless?

It's so hot I've just been putting dd who is 2 in dresses and feel a bit bad making her wear pants when I don't wear them myself in this heat.

Is it ok to let little girls go pantless, or not? Opinions please.

I don't know why not really! I worry that I'll pick her up and people might think it's indecent with a little naked bottom in my arms! Or something!

Now I sound crazy

As my dd is going through a phase of lifting the hem of her dress and holding it over her head, I wouldn't dare!

She does at home though.

misdee · 10/07/2005 20:01

my dd2 is a nudist, she hardly ever has knickers on.

morningpaper · 10/07/2005 20:01

WWB oh dear! Some of my maternity dresses are now so short that I'm in danger of exposing MYSELF every time I bend over to pick her up...

But is the point that you wear a skirt or dress? I don't like the idea of not wearing knickers with trousers or jeans as I don't want the crotch of the trousers rubbing against...... ahem I will go no further!

Saw a lady the other day in thin white trousers who was clearly not wearing any knickers - not even thongs. I didn't see the front but if she wasn't clean shaven, it would have shown It was so bovious, I felt obliged to point it out to my ds!

lots of little girls going pantless today at lunch party (bbq, hot day, paddling pool) and no concern

WigWamBam · 10/07/2005 20:42

I don't wear knickers either, but with dd's habit of exposing hers I'd rather she wore some, at least while we're out. I'm sure it would be OK in the garden or the paddling pool, but flashing her bits in public or at nursery wouldn't really be on, I don't think!

LIZS · 10/07/2005 21:14

Not deliberately ! Was mortified when I realised on a playdate last summer that dd (then almost 3)had none on. We'd set off in a hurry, she'd run off with her friend and played out of sight so when I noticed much later I was convinced she'd either wet herself and taken them off or "lost" them somehow. She was no help explaining but unfussed about it. When we got home there they were in her bedroom floor! She hadn't put them back on after going for a wee and in our haste I'd not noticed!! Friend's dd never seems to wear pants but wears leggings out rather than a dress.

spidermama · 10/07/2005 21:58

I remeber noticing my 5 year old daughter didn't have them on when at the swing park once. I felt a jolt of vulnerability on her behalf but we had only just arrived so I turned a blind eye rather than drag the three of them home.

I think at two no-one would bat an eyelid. If they did it's their problem.
