Do you ever let your daughter go knickerless?

It's so hot I've just been putting dd who is 2 in dresses and feel a bit bad making her wear pants when I don't wear them myself in this heat.

Is it ok to let little girls go pantless, or not? Opinions please.

My dd has been knickerless all day as have the rest of my family. Bu that's because we've spent the day at the naturist site at our caravan!!! And we've all got gorgeous tans.

TwinSetAndPearls · 10/07/2005 22:20

My dd is always removing her knickers, I always have to have a few spare pairs in my bag incase we go anywhere posh or pious.

This morning in church I noticed her flashing to people returning from communion.

Milliways · 10/07/2005 22:25

As my DD is 14 - DEF NOT!

DD2 used to go to school knickerless. I tried to prevent it, but was powerless. Sometimes she would go to school in her sister's knickers which would fall down all day. So glad that she's outgrown that!

spidermama · 10/07/2005 23:36

Wow QE a naturist site. I'm well up for that. There's a naturist beach near me and I keep trying to persuade dh that it would be a great day out but he's very strongly opposed, even with a low slung guitar.

I've obviously had too many children and now have no pelvic floor ... going knickerless could be mighty embarrassing ...

sparklymieow · 10/07/2005 23:41

Dd2 never has knickers on, we put them on in the morning within a hour they are gone..... She has to wear them to nursery tho, but sometimes she has taken them off and pulled her trousers back on, and she has gone to nursery with none on

QueenEagle · 11/07/2005 00:14

spidermama - pmsl @ low slung guitar!!!

must admit I don't like to see little children knickerless/pantless on the beach, at the park etc... but wearing no knickers under dresses/skirts/trousers a different thing all together. Got dressed in a long skirt this morning, no knickers, but couldn't do it.... had to wear a pair, what if one of my dt's pulled up my skirt? not that they ever have, but what if?

expatinscotland · 11/07/2005 12:23

No. DD is only 2 and not yet potty-trained. We live in a rented flat that is all carpeted except the kitchen and bath. So she needs to wear a nappy.

Can't say I've ever gone pantless or wanted to myself. What's the point?

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 11/07/2005 12:23

whats the point in putting them on if you dont have to?!

sitting here in shorts and vest top - no bra and no knickers! Feel very cool in this heat!

expatinscotland · 11/07/2005 12:25

Hmm, saggy boobs and pubic hairs and fecal matter and urine on your clothes. No thanks. I LIKE wearing underwear - matching, pretty, frilly underwear.

This place ain't hot. I grew up in a semi-tropical climate and then moved to a desert. Now THAT was hot! Still wore knickers and bras.

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 11/07/2005 12:26

agree to differ then! my clothes go straight in the wash every night, so whats the difference? oh well..... leaving this one now!

Lonelymum · 11/07/2005 14:08

Expat! You said the words I couldn't bring myself to say! Wow! HUGE admiration for you here!

morningpaper · 11/07/2005 15:21

pubic hairs and fecal matter and urine on your clothes

EUGH! Take some care with the wiping, pretty lady!

I shave my pubic hair OFF and if I get a bit sweaty, I wash with a flannel in the day. So it's minty fresh down there.

Unless you're using wet wipes to wipe, there may be some residual left over. And if you don't keep yourself trimmed down there there could be residual wetness and/or hairs stuck in your zip.

Yuk.

Just my 2p, and just me personally, but I don't need to go commando to feel 'free' or 'liberated'.

It's just not for me.

piffle · 11/07/2005 15:37

I usually wear knickers with a skirt but always go knickerless with trousers, always have since being 17. Because of horse riding the edges of pants dug into you, habit stuck, I do not find it makes any difference to your trouser mess! If you keep yourself clean and wipe properly!
DD is regularly pantless at home but as she is at that charming age of 32 mths and is contantly delving down there amazed at what's there now the nappy has gone, I put her in pants when out.

morningpaper · 11/07/2005 15:37

I am also sitting here without underwear in the world's largest and most ugly maternity dress.

No lingering matter in my secret ladies garden. Things are fresh and ready for action. (Not that I ever see any, particularly in this heat.)

glad u posted mp - couldnt quite get the words to sound right!

and yes, i do use baby wipes on my lady garden if i feel the need to feel particularly fresh!

morningpaper · 11/07/2005 15:51

I use a flannel - a quick scrub and things are shipshape again.

I have gone knickerless on a few occasions, and will probably whip these ones off later as they are getting on me tits quite frankly

My kids usually wear knickers all the time.

handlemecarefully · 11/07/2005 16:03

I don't have an opinion on what other mums do, but I wouldn't let dd go knickerless unless at home. She would flash her bits when sitting in her pushchair, or on climbing frames etc.

Lonelymum · 11/07/2005 18:21

I'm sorry, am I the only woman with vaginal discharge? And I don't mean I have a STD, just the normal lubrication. It greatly increases at certain times of the month! I know I am not the only one or else there would not be panty liners for sale (not that I use them). At the wrong time of the month, I would be wiping every half hour to stem the flow! I am with Expat here, although I might pick a dry day and give it a go just to know what you ladies are experiencing. Oooh aren't I daring?

frannyf · 11/07/2005 18:39

Amazed at all these knickerless ladies! I have not gone without since I was a student and used to run out of clean ones in between launderette visits

If it's not too passe to get back to the original question, I think it's sad when little girls aren't allowed to be naked and think it would be fine to let a 2 year old have a bare bottom - if not now, then when, for goodness sakes?

handlemecarefully · 12/07/2005 08:49

how about toleration for others views frannyf, rather than a dismissive "for goodness sakes"?
