Fess up! Who does things with their DC that go against all the guidelines?

I have to confess to making up DD's night feeds in advance and storing them in the fridge I know I'm not surpose to but I can barely manage to locate the correct screaming DC at 3 in the morning nevermind make up a bottle of formula!

I let my son sleep on his front - no-one would get any sleep otherwise

I do lots of things that are against guidelines.

I give DS (aged 9 months) a cup of weak tea sometimes. I know, I know, call social services immediately...

ooh boy... I let dd sleep on her front as a baby. I could never understand what I was meant to do, keep a continual watch on her and turn her back everytime she rolled over?

Left dd in the bath on her own from about the age of 2, I was either upstairs (very small house) or downstairs with the baby monitor on. Dd made this possible by pretty much continual chatter, singing and imaginative play - if she went silent for more than 1 second, I checked on her! But very much against guidelines I know.

Can't think of anything else too shocking... Think I did almost everything else by the book, especially things like applying suncream...

oh and I microwaved formula for her!

yes i microwave milk and always have
also do the bath thing because they don't stop singing or talking so easy to detect drowning!
i let dd1 go barefoot in her buggy in the winter - she started with socks but once off thet stayed off

always use buggy harness, trolley harness, suncream

don't use cycle helmets

My dd had a TV dinner in front of the laptop tonight watching BBC iplayer - she's not quite 2!

i think i'd crash MN if i attempted to post a list

guidlines are just that... do them if you can, if they make life impossible or are just silly then why bother.

a few off the top of my head:

i let them sleep on their fronts if they were very unsettled as babies
they've all had curry and rare meat from weaning
they've all had peanuts and strawberries from less than a year
they have been allowed sips of tea and coffee from around 2 years old

I make night feeds up in advance and put in fridge and then I heat in microwave.

I have tried son on his front but he doesn't like it. But he is in his own room and he is only 4months old.

I out him front of TV in morning as he is mesmerised while I eat my breakfast two handed.

I used to make up feeds and keep them in the fridge - mad not to, IMO.

DD has played with Nintendog (and is doing so now when she should be in the bath) since she was 18 months old.

I didn't even know children weren't supposed to have strawberries when v young. DD first had them at about seven months.

DD (now 2.4) sleeps in my bed nearly every night. She's started referring to it as our bed . I am single(ish) though!

DD still has bottles for milk. As far as she's concerned that's how milk comes. All other drinks in a normal cup (doesn't like sippy cups as they're for babies).

Oh there are just loads. Nothing terrifically bad in isolation but taken altogether...

Right, where to start?

When they were babies,
I heated milk in the microwave,
I mixed fed them all to some degree,
I put them to sleep on their fronts (not when they were really tiny),
I left them to cry themselves to sleep, I rarely used safety harnesses,
I (very occasionally, and I hesitate even now to admit this) left ds3 asleep in his cot while I went in the car to get dd from playgroup ,
I again very occasionally left them alone in the house while I went across the road to my friend's house,
I always left them in the car while paying for petrol (I actually think that is the safer thing to do though)
I leave them alone in the house now. My older children are easily old enough but my youngest is still only 6 and I guess some would say I should still be taking him everywhere with me,
I let my youngest 2 play in the road when they were aged 3 and 2 - it was a cul de sac on a campus though and I was within sight of them....

I can't think of more offhand, but as I read other people's confessions, I know I will find myself nodding to many of them.

I started reading the book. It said about using freshly boiled water to make formula. Then it said I'd better buy a second kettle, just in case I should accidently boil the water twice - obviously whilst making a cup of tea or something mid way through. So I threw the book in the bin and just did what suited me/dd.

If dd (or dss previously) fall asleep in the pushchair I leave her outside the door to continue sleeping when we get back home.

Ds1 spent 1 night in with us before moving to his own room. Ds2 and dd have never slept in with us.

Ds2 and dd get fresh clothes after lunch. If they get mucky at other times (poo incidents excluding) they stay mucky.

Ds2 doesn't wear socks (not walking; don't stay on).

Ds1 goes out without a coat on on occasion (usually on pushchair as refuses to put it on - very warm-blooded that one).

Ds1 will be left to go hungry when he refuses to eat what I've offered him.

i didnt even know that formula feeds couldnt be pre-mixed!! how bad is that!! although ds2 is 2.9yrs so maybe the advice has changed??

Started giving dd baby rice at 4months - she ate 3 spoonfuls straight off and nearly bit my hand off! (Big baby, she also had teeth by this time and had been 'begging' for food like a dog since 3months old!)

It was about a year later they changed the guidelines to 6months+.

ds3 -6 months - wears the same nappies as ds 2 -2.

Mine have pretty much unlimited TV and computer time. I know this is bad.
