I have to confess to making up DD's night feeds in advance and storing them in the fridge I know I'm not surpose to but I can barely manage to locate the correct screaming DC at 3 in the morning nevermind make up a bottle of formula!

Lighten up. I think the general point of this thread is to gently poke fun at daft guidelines. Wouldn't it be nice if parents were allowed to trust thier own judgement?

I don't consider my son to be 'alone' if I'm not sat in the room ready to catch him if he slips in the bath. I can hear him loud and clear from anywhere in my tiny house. At 3.5, if he falls he can get back up again, and the chances of him falling WHILE SITTING DOWN, on a bath mat, are quite slim, don't you think?

I wasn't going to reply but changed my mind. Just going to say one thing. If you feel the need to do everything completely by the book, then thats fine. Nobody has done anything that actually harmed their child and if posting here has made somebody feel better about not following 'the book' to the letter then thats a good thing.

For the record, I made my formula in advance, refridgerated it and warmed it in a microwave all recommended my HV. I also weaned at 16 weeks, also recommende4d by HV. Guidelines have changed since then (as they do ALL THE TIME) so does that mean I put my child at risk back then? Was I neglectful? No I wasn't.

Excuse me?

MumofOscar · 08/01/2010 09:41

OTOH the 'I don't give a fuck about making formula safely''I weaned at 12 weeks and don't care about the risks' stuff is a bit sad. It's that 'never did me any harm' stance - completely misguided and ignorant.

Which point did i miss?

Mshalfcut · 08/01/2010 09:54

These threads always end up like this

Jux · 08/01/2010 09:55

Oh my! I used to make up 6 bottles at a time and keep them in the fridge.

I also let dd use proper scissors that actually cut paper! I just kept an eye on her and warned her to watch her fingers - never had an accident, never hurt herself with them, and never got frustrated because of silly baby-scissors that didn't cut!

When I fed my children pre-made up bottles, years ago, it was deemed fine. It was what you were supposed to do, iirc. Given that no evil befell them, or any other child I knew, I would do the same again. People get terribly po-faced on here sometimes.

Comewhinewithme · 08/01/2010 10:24

The only thing that has shocked me on here is the posters who have left children alone while they go out of the house ..pretty stupid if you ask me .

memoo · 08/01/2010 10:26

FGS Lady, lighten up a bit. This was meant to be a bit of light hearted fun!

lilyjen · 08/01/2010 10:49

LadyintheRadiator you have missed the point yourself, that is, the post was about talking frankly to other mums about how people do things, which can be fun if you find other like minded people. That's what mumsnet is all about. If your idea of fun is different then maybe you shouldn't waste your time posting on here and go and do your fun thing instead of critising.

I cannot condone leaving babies alone in the house whether they are asleep or not it's just irresponsible imo.

Lady, ffs lighten up.

"Yeah, I know, I can click hide."
If you think this thread is so annoying and unfunny, click hide then.

you slag us all off and take the piss and then want to know why we think you should go away...?

Rhian82 · 08/01/2010 11:05

No, it's not sad that people post about their kids watching lots of TV. I think it's something that most parents do, but if you read the guidelines you're made to feel guilty about it. It's reassuring to hear that actually, most other mums do it as well and it's not just you being a bad parent.

You're right, though, Lady. It is sad that women think they're doing something wrong by posting some of these things. But the way to deal with that is probably not to come along and take the piss, is it?

we - should have said "more than one of the posters here"

kidcreoleandthecoconuts · 08/01/2010 11:11

Lady, you are sad.

Have you nothing better to do than pick holes in threads that are of no interest to you?

wannaBe · 08/01/2010 11:13

Guidelines are just that though - guidelines, and ultimately people do know their own babies and make judgements according to their own circumstances.

The only ones I am horrified at really are people who admit to leaving small children in the house while they go out. And drugging a child with medised on a regular basis must be borderline child abuse surely?

MumofOscar · 08/01/2010 11:14

Right I'm ending this (for myself anyway). Lady, I apologise if I misunderstood.

petisa · 08/01/2010 11:14

Oh god, well we're all poor sad mums then, feel sorry for us if you must, ffs it was only a light hearted thread. I can now see it is inevitable, these threads always do end up in a barney.
