Why is it on mumsnet?

That if you wish to feed your children healthy food,
not smoke when you are pg,
look after them and make sure they are safe
I could go on and on..............
you are ridiculed for basically being a responsible parent?
I do hope that the views on mumsnet do not reflect society as a whole, what a scary thought.
I have changed my name as I know that if I said who I was as usual I would be shot down in flames.

Shopping - asda abd tesco. never seen a waitrose in my life

Rarely buy organic

Don't use the word Chav as it is insulting

Read the Independent and Observer.

Think most people on benefits are fully entitled to them

Don't have dinner parties

drink anything except spirits

My garden is a mess

Neither of us "professionals"

Never had a cleaner

Do recycle **

Buy clothes from anywhere but am tight. kids stuff tends to come mainly from supermarkets. never looked at boden

Can see many reasons why everyone can't afford a house in the burbs even if they try hard.

Don't go to the gym

Not on a diet
dont smack
mixed fed ds1 breastfeeding ds2

Don't smoke and never have

Shout at children, shout at husband, shout at myself, shout at life

LunarSea · 29/06/2005 12:15

Buy organic on occasion, but would rather buy local produce from a source I know than imported organic

Use Tesco some of the time (it's nearest) or Sainsbury's or wherever happens to be convenient at the time. Not ashamed to buy some things from the likes of Aldi or Lidl. Can't conciously remember ever going into a Waitrose though.

Don't have things delivered as dh has a thing about paying anyone to do things you can do yourself (for which read things I can do myself) - same goes for carparks (park further out and walk), windowcleaners, any other type of cleaners, gardeners, ironers, etc.

don't have chav in my vocabulary (am a bit behind the times in that respect - might think "common" at times, but wouldn't say it).

don't smoke

tried to breast feed, ended up doing a bit of both

think most people on benefits are probably perfectly entitled to be (but realise that some aren't and those do no favours to the reputation of the others)

read times/guardian/indy online

don't have a herb garden unless you count an overgrown rosemary bush, but do have fruit

dh & I both "professionals"

don't work at tesco
don't do dinner parties - but occasionally have friends round for informal meal

do drink wine - but lager (though not lime) too at times (not together!)

do recycle

don't shop at boden (more like Ebay and car boot sales)

don't think there's room in the suburbs for everyone, and don't think it's where everyone wants to be anyway. and the way house prices vs earnings are going can't see many people without inheriting money/property being able to afford to live anywhere by the time ds is old enough to need/want to move out.

do go to the gym (though haven't been for a while)

should be on a diet (but currently am not)

dh faithful as far as I know - and probably wouldn't post about it if he wasn't

haven't changed name since Christmas

don't have a cleaner or live in help

don't smack (due to being smacked many times every day as a child myself and so tend to the opposite myself, rather than any moral smugness)

trolls happen - but 99% are genuine, and just leave it alone rather than get involved if I'm dubious

Buy organic as much as possible

Waitrose or Ocado for shopping but try to shop in local shops eg butcher, deli, as much as poss.

Do say chav occasionally

Read the Guardian

Think most people on benefits are fully entitled to them

Do have people round for dinner but often go out with them instead.

Love wine, don't really do beer, do vodka

Have easy to maintain garden with a couple of herb pots (how else do you get herbs? Buying in the supermarket is so expensive compared to growing them)

Both professionals

Have cleaner, dogwalker, nanny

Try to keep private life private

Do recycle

Buy clothes from anywhere incl charity shops. Have bought boden stuff once for dd in sale as was v cheap.

Can see many reasons why everyone can't afford a house in the burbs even if they try hard.

Don't go to the gym though am member.

Not on a diet per se, trying to lose a bit of weight as am lardarse but not on atkins or ww or anyting

Tried to smack dd once but missed.

Bottle fed but not through choice

Smoke when pissed

Try not to shout but do

CountessDracula · 29/06/2005 12:42

oh sorry and neither dh or I shagging around as far as I know

Bugsy2 · 29/06/2005 12:48

Am bored, victim of my own efficiency at work!

Shopping - shop from every supermarket going because they are all equidistant from house: Asda, Waitrose, M&S, Tesco & Sainsbury. Get big shops delivered by Tesco because I'm lazy.

Buy organic about 50% of time

Don't use the word Chav because I'm not really sure what it means.

Read the Times online, Metro when its free on the tube and Sunday Times and News of the World.

Receive WTC & CTC but don't really know enough about other people's circs to say whether they are entitled to them or not

Used to have, and go to, dinner parties but seem to have been relieved from duty on that one since becoming a gay divorcee!

Drink wine & anything else going occasionally. Live on my own with kids, and refuse to start drinking alone - slippery slope.

My garden is decked and full of low maintenance shrubs and pots.

I think I'm probably a professional but not 100% sure what counts as professional anymore.

Have a cleaner & an aupair.

Private life is as private as I want it to be

Recycle stuff because the council give us bags to put things in. Probably too lazy to actually take stuff to bins.

Buy clothes from anywhere. Kids things tend to be Primark, H&M and I range from Primark to designer boutiques depending on state of wallet.

Thnk the housing situation in this country is a nightmare and am very glad I was able to get on the ladder years ago.

Go to the gym

Not on a diet

Never smack

Mixed fed both babies

Smoke occasionally - usually when I've drunk too much

Shout at children, shout at husband, shout at myself, shout at life

Bugsy2 · 29/06/2005 12:52

Ooops the shouting bit on mine belonged to whoever I cut and pasted from!!!!
I rarely shout - occasionally pushed to it though extreme provocation but hate having "lost it" afterwards.

SoupDragon · 29/06/2005 13:18

I shop at Tescos or Waitrose. I usually do it online [snurk] becauseI'm lazy
I eat organic where I think it's appropriate
I use the word "chav" but not as an insult (eg last week when I shpped at TK Maxx I considered myself all chavved up.If it was an insult, I@m insulting myself)
I don't smoke, have never smoked and think it's disgusting
I breast fed both DSs,
I think 99.9% of people on benefits deserve them but 0.1% are no good low life spongers who spoil it for the rest.
I read the Times, not the daily mail or the guardian but definitley not the daily mirror or the sun.
I have a herb garden and my DH is a "professional" (I am soon to be a Lady Who Lunches)
I don't work at Tesco.
I do have diner parties but they're no longer sophisticated and usually involve a takeaway Thai meal
I do't frequent the Saturday BAR threads and drink neither wine nor half a lager and lime.
I recycle (and compost)
I hate Boden.
I am well aware why everyone can't afford a house in the burbs if they try hard enough.
I have a gym membership and a, on a "healthy eating" diet (she says hiding her homemade flapjack).
My husband is not, to my knowledge fcking or thinking of fking someone else as it would cost him a fcking fortune in the divorce courts if e did.
I rarely smack
I often am driven to screaming
Of course everyone new is a troll

WideWebWitch · 29/06/2005 13:24

I buy 95% organic but Asda organic + some Sainsbury's/Fresh & Wild

I'm with Batters on the word chav, I've given up telling people I don't like it

I don't smoke, but used to, gave up 2.5 yrs ago

I bottle fed both but believe breast is best (it just didn't work for me)

No, I do NOT think everyone on benefits is a 'no good low life sponger'

Read The Guardian, Observer, Ecologist and assorted womens' mags

You've got me on the herb garden, we have loads of potted herbs. Wot Custy, you haven't got herbs? har har

Has diner parties and the saturday BAR threads are full of people who only drink wine as opposed to half a lager and lime" Yes, I cook for people sometimes and drink lots of wine

everyone recycles and shops at boden. Don't recycle as much as I should and detest Boden

everyone is politically aware of societies divide but can see no reason why everyone cant afford a house in the burbs if they try hard enough. Ha ha ha, we'll probably rent for the rest of our lives

everyone goes to the gym or is on a diet. Yes, I'm on a diet. You would be too if you were as lardy as me

No, I'm sure that neither of us is shagging anyone else but if he were, I wouldn't change my name to post about it

Don't have an au pair, cleaner or nanny but only because I'm a sahm. Next time I work I may have all three.

No one smacks...: no but have done and regretted it in the past

screams... Yes, I do scream. Alone in my car sometimes

...or admits to being curled up in a ball in hte corner becuase they can't take any more of parenthood and post in their own name. I have posted in misery obviously not curled up in a ball at time of posting but have admitted to sitting on the kitchen floor bawling my eyes out.

Janh · 29/06/2005 13:27

For the Boden haters

I have the malignant personal satnav too

morningpaper · 29/06/2005 13:28

Soupdragon "My husband is not, to my knowledge fcking or thinking of fking someone else as it would cost him a fcking fortune in the divorce courts if e did."

pmsl

WideWebWitch · 29/06/2005 13:29

Oh, I read that too Janh! I didn't like her thoguh at the end of the article and I thought I probably ought to by rights but she was just too bitter (or something) sounding.

motherinferior · 29/06/2005 13:31

why oh why do I like some of his clothes?

morningpaper · 29/06/2005 13:38
  • I shop at Asda except for my weekly non-air-freighted organic delivery of a box of beetroot.
- The word 'chav' is plainly offensive. - I tried to learn to smoke but just developed asthsma which I understood was probably a punishment from baby Jesus for trying to be cooler than I actually am. - I made yoghurt from my own breastmilk. - Most of my friends are on benefits and think I'm terribly posh because I'm not. - Guardian and MS magazine. - I may have a small collection of herbs. - I don't like any of my friends enough to invite them for dinner. - I recycle (and compost - mostly the contents of the aforementioned organic beetroot box). - All my clothes are off Ebay. - I think gym membership is for spoiled SAHMs. - I am happily divorced and living in sin. - My other half is not fcking someone else as far as I know although I have pointed out to him that considering how much time he spends at the gym he's still a long way from looking like Brad Pitt. - I smack when furious. - I scream regularly. - I am not a troll although I think lots of you wish I was.
Marina · 29/06/2005 13:43

I really couldn't care less what Judy Rumbold and Janice Turner think of people who buy Boden (thanks both jan and MI for those links, interesting reading all round). Or what Johnnie Boden fondly and somewhat tragically imagines his standard customer might be, come to that.
It's just scattershot "journalism" that makes silly, even offensive generalisations based presumably on a carefully-researched sample of "some friends" and a hapless child on a beach.
Look forward to Janice and Judy being equally insightful about people who shop at M & S or George at ASDA for their kids. But where does that leave harmless ordinary people who buy all over because they like what the clothes look like?

motherinferior · 29/06/2005 13:44

I know, Marina, but my hard-earned (ha!) quids are fuelling that dreadful man.

Heathcliffscathy · 29/06/2005 13:45

shop at asda for all branded and hardwear goods and some organic. mainly sainsburys. waitrose for fish and meat if i can.

Do use the word chav i'm afraid. also use the words posh twt. also use the words middle class shthead. basically am child of immigrants, therefore classless and therefore to my shame bitch at everyone if they are being obnoxious imo.

Read dh's copies of independent and observer. Read babysitters copies of Heat. Read grannies Daily Mail (so that i can fume quietly and then come on here and post about it).

Definitely don't think most people on benefits are scroungers, in fact don't mind any that are as think any redistribution of wealth ok (watch me get flamed for that one)

love having people round to dinner and will do it loads when we get into new house (hopefully soon). whether is a takeaway curry or my attempt at cooking, think socialising with people in your home is lovely.

Drink mostly wine. Love proper beer/bitter tho, but can't drink loads of it. Like cold larger in summer.

dh works in music, I'm sahm, but will be psychotherapist.

Don't have staff atm, but in new house hoping for cleaner and mothers help (six hours a week) so i can finish training.

dh isn't shagging anyone else. i wouldn't change my name to post about it if he was.

Don't recycle enough

have never ever bought anything in boden nor would i ever. am currently wearing a pokemon tshirt and gap jeans. most of my stuff is from hennes.

Haven't smacked yet, but have been v close and i'm sure in a rage one day i probably will, but would like not to.

breast fed. bottle fed too (same baby) whatever works is fine no?

Don't smoke - used to

Have been known to bang my head against back of chair in despair whilst feeding ds in early hours of morning. definitely scream. definitely feel like i'm going mad sometimes and happy to admit this.

CountessDracula · 29/06/2005 13:45

morningpaper, errrr gym membership for spoiled sahm's!!!

You obviously have never worked in the City!

CountessDracula · 29/06/2005 13:47

oooh sophable Coddy will get you for saying staff!

Marina · 29/06/2005 13:47

I know, he is vile, but that doesn't make us vile because we bag a few Hotchpotch tops in the sale MI. I'm quite oleased that a fat old downmarket hag like me is dressing my Sarf London kids in Boden occasionally and I'd love him to know it. I bet he's never even heard of my suburb!
I just really loathe writing that just lazily puts us all in boxes. Especially when it makes embittered fun of a small child as well FFS.

motherinferior · 29/06/2005 13:48
HappyHuggy · 29/06/2005 13:48

I shop at asda, tesco or where evers open when i need to go shopping. Dont buy organic although maybe i ought too.

Find chav jokes very funny!

Smoke when im drinking but never in the house or let the kids see me smoking. feel v quilt about it and am going to quit.

Breast fed both my boys as couldnt be doing with sterilising and making up bottles every day

Dont begrudge benifits to those that need them. Benifit frauds piss me right off though

Read the daily mail cause my mom buys it so i read it at hers. Also sometimes buy it for the free cds

Dont grow herbs or veggies

Has diner parties and the saturday BAR threads are full of people who only drink wine as opposed to half a lager and lime" - closest i get to a dinner party is having friends round for tea although i can cook. Frequent the saturday night bars and my tipple of choice is malibu - cant stand wine!

Put paper in the recycling box thingy that the bin men leave.

Never heard of Boden

everyone is politically aware of societies divide but can see no reason why everyone cant afford a house in the burbs if they try hard enough - nope its damm ghard to get on the property ladder

Not on a diet but keep thinking i ought to go to the gym but never get round to it

Husband would love to f*ck my best friend - we're in seperate rooms at the moment!!

Dont have any home help, am at college at the moment and no one does the house work!!! although dh likes to think he does

I smack my kids if they're naughty but am trying to take the positive disipline approach

admit to screaming and crying when im stressed out, feel like running far away sometimes but never let the kids see it.

Heathcliffscathy · 29/06/2005 13:49

why do you think i said it cd ;)?

CountessDracula · 29/06/2005 13:49

Goodness me, I only heard of Boden through mumsnet, what is the problem with it? OK the clothes are overpriced, but i have only bought a couple of plain tshirts as someone said they washed really well, and some tights cos they were pretty, all in the sale and no more expensive than for eg M&S

FFS some people get in a tiz over such stupid things
