have to take DS1 to his induction afternoon (2nd one - hoping he doesn't throw up like he did last week LOL) at his new school.........thing is DS2 has his sleep at 1pm-3pm - and the induction afternoon starts at 1.30

So I'm going to put DS2 down for his sleep as usual, at 1.30 on the dot grab the monitor, lock the front door and whizz round to the school to drop DS1 off - then whizz back again

If you lived next door to the school I'd be worried if he didn't walk to school by himself!

QueenOfQuotes · 27/06/2005 23:51

"in a few months we're going to have QoQ starting the "I'm letting my 4 year old walk to school on his own today" thread. "

No, no, no! It'll be "I'm letting my 5 year old walk to school on his own today" - he turns 5 on the 16th September

He's 6 days younger than my ds - but he starts school on 18 August. Where's my baby gone...?!

....oh, and good luck today!

May ds2 sleep peacefully and ds1 run in without a backward glance!

emily05 · 28/06/2005 09:31

QoQ - is today the day?? Have you definantly got it right this time

QueenOfQuotes · 28/06/2005 09:32

yes today's the day - I've checked, double checked and even got DH to check for me too .

August the 18th - that's really early!!! Are you in Scotland (or is going to private school????)????

when you leave the house there will be a gaggle of mumsnetters spying across the road seeing if you have ds2 with you!

jessicasmummy · 28/06/2005 09:35

Just dont forget the monitor

Prettybird · 28/06/2005 09:49

Yes - I'm in Scotland and no, it's not private

Nursery stops on Thursday (council run nursery), then next stop....... school!

Glasgow schools start Primary 1 kids for half days up until the September weekend (a long holiday weekend at the end of Spetember) and then full time thereafter.

School is 10 minutes walk away, so not quite close enough for him to walk to on his own in his first year, and one busy-ish road to cross (but with a Lollipop Man) but we'll review it from Primary 2 onwards and probably from primary 3 will let him go on his own (if we are still here). He's already showing good traffic awareness and is very strict about waiting for us before crossing a road (he often "cycles" to nursery on his Lyke-a-byke and zooms ahead as he can go so fast, but always pulls up bofre any side road).

Dh even, already, shock horror ( another bad parent alert) occasionally, if he has picked ds up from nursery in the car, after having "cycled" him there, allows him to cycle on his own down a wee dead end bit of road, while he goes the "long" way round in the car via a traffic light (ie he does two sides of the triangle, while ds does one). ds loves the "independence" and dh has his heart in his throat if the light is at red!

As it happens, he'll be going to after-school club anyway (which is at antoher primary, but they pick up form the one ds will be going to), so we would pick up him from there anyway, as it would be later and there would be no lollipop people.

Monkeysmom · 28/06/2005 11:33

In QoQ?s special circumstances, with the school being so close and the baby asleep in the cot, I think is OK.
The probability of something happening to QoQ on the journey from front door to school gate and back is probably equal to QoQ taking the baby in the pram and a car losing control and going on pavement and hitting the pram with the baby in it.
Regarding leaving the child in the locked car to pay for petrol, what can happen in those few minutes ?
We are putting our lives at risk everyday by driving on the busy roads. But nobody thinks twice about it. The safest thing for children would be not to be in a car at all ??

HappyHuggy · 28/06/2005 11:38

QOQ - you gonna be a norty momma today......

There'll be a whole load of trolls waiting to throw eggs at you ...

nailpolish · 28/06/2005 12:03

d'you know what worries me the most when i go to the kiosk to pay for petrol, etc etc etc?

not what could happen to babies in the car parked in the forecourt, what could happen to me? i could get knocked down by a car pulling out, a crazed gunman could rob the petrol station and shoot me dead, etc etc etc

and i worry about my babies being left in the car, no-one knowing they are there, crying for mummy

sends shivers down my spine, even though the odds are enormous

What happens if ds2 isn't feeling sleepy

Easy · 28/06/2005 12:41

Nailpolish, I feel for you.

I spend my time worrying if ds's ear will be alright after his surgery, worrying if dh wil ever find a job he likes, worrying if my childminder will fit in my my working pattern when I have to go to Birmingham for a few weeks, worrying if I'll get paid on time, worrying about what we are going to eat tonight, worrying that the new bathroom suite won't arrive on time, etc. etc. etc.

I don't even have time to think about a crazed gunman robbing a petrol station while I'm paying.

Some people must have too little to worry about.

Easy · 28/06/2005 12:43

Ladymuck, I thought that about 2 days ago. I guess he'll just wreck Q's plan, by going with them

jessicasmummy · 28/06/2005 12:48

42 minutes.....

Ladymuck · 28/06/2005 12:49

Oh I don't know, perhaps she'll leave him at home anyway.

QueenOfQuotes · 28/06/2005 13:01

Stage one - Complete - DS falling asleep as I type.
