Help! Anyone know how long it would take for a nappy to cause the thrush rash to appear again? We had a full 24 hours of cloth nappies with no rash coming back - even overnight. But I've just changed Clement's nappy and found that he's got it coming back again!! But the nappy I put on him when he woke up this moring, I was a bit unconvinced about. It seems to be difficult to always get it totally clean (too dense perhaps?), and sometimes the leg bindings don't seem as white as they should, so maybe this nappy has brought it back? Or do you think 2.5 hours or so in a nappy is too short of a time to be causing it? I really want to believe that it's that nappy that did it, rather than all the cloth in general, and it taking 24 hours to bring it out!

mumface: nappy arrived this morning - fantastic! Can't wait to try it on Benjamin - the hedgehogs are verrrry cute, and he loves the print on it! Just wondering tho, do you know if their nappies run small at all? It's just that it looks small for a size large nappy. But we've not tried it on yet, so I'm assuming it will stretch out OK.

jenny: Yes, Clement is allergic to fleece (makes him go red) but I've used fleece liners on Benjamin since he was born without any problems. However, I did wonder if it made him too hot (since he heats up easily with his eczema), but at the moment he's hating the feeling of wet nappies, so I've decided to re-visit fleece lined nappies, in an effort to avoid having to use dispoables. I think suedecloth is best so far (better than fleece) but couldn't find many bargains with suedecloth, apart from used Bumgenius. But they're not really big enough for him. But afraid I'm using sposies on him at night , (despite my lovely stash of Bedbugs!), as he's waking up at night and complaining about the wet nappy, and also he's not liking the bulk of cloth on his "bits" at night, as he gets rather un-relaxed in his sleep, and can't seem to relax again in his sleep with a bulk of cloth over his privates! So if a disposable will help him to stay asleep and not wake me up (as we wake up enough with his eczema!) then the dreadful sposies he will have for nights!

Rachel I think Tirsokas are a low rise style, it is deffo a large has tag in it. It fit my 30lb boy about middle setting on waist, largest on thighs, but we do have nappy issues with the size of his legs They do look smaller than they are like Itti's. Let me know how you get on.

Sounds like it could be the odd nappy harbouring the germs Slap the cream on again & boil the nappy.

Every time I get a Monkeyfoot bag if find another use for one and want another! Would be handy having one hanging on DS1 door to teach him not to throw his clothes on the floor

thebluefoxategreensocks · 03/11/2009 14:20

mumface: Yes, I saw it said large on the tag, so wasn't doubting it. Just thought it looked very slim! But usually it's nappies being too big on his thighs, so it will probably be a perfect fit!

The nappy in mention is a Weenotions Northern Light, velour outer with embroidery on front & back, so I'm guessing a boil would totally wreck it - but perhaps that's what it needs to cure it? for now he's in a disposable again.

I think I might BOIL all my cotton tots (since hopefully they can stand up to that - and if not, they were very cheap) and then use just them when the rash goes away again, and then I can be sure that the nappies on him are OK (since they'll have been boiled), and see if it's cloth making it come back, or germs in the other cloth nappies he was wearing before. Clement just has very sensitive skin, so never know really!

thebluefoxategreensocks · 03/11/2009 15:37

mumface: Nappy on Benjamin now and fits him very nicely. However, it is on the largest setting for legs, which we never have with nappies! So I'm guessing it wouldn't suit a fat legged baby! LOL And won't fit him forever, but I think that's just because he's getting rather old/big for nappies! People don't guess he's only 2.5yo, as he's about as big as his 4yo sister - certainly weighs as much as her! But yes, we love it! Thanks very much! Only thing, he won't let me put any clothes on him, as he wants to see the mushrooms & hedgehogs!

ilovemydogandmrobama · 03/11/2009 16:39

rachel send me your address and I'll lend you a silk liner to see if it works. DS wears them at night with a BBH and seems to be OK

mumface · 03/11/2009 16:59

Glad it fits ok and you like it Rachel
I seem to have thrown my bug off already and am still childless. It's spookily quiet and my new MF bag is waiting for some nappies to be put in it Am missing changing nappies!
Hangers came in handy had some babygros and tops & trousers for Connor from Next arrive today. (I don't brave shops much now!)

thebluefoxategreensocks · 03/11/2009 17:42

ilovemydog: aww, that's very kind of you. I do actually have a silk liner - well, someone said they thought it was one. But I don't have anything to compare it to, so not positive what it is. But it's quite narrow and not very long - very similar size to the sewn in fleece liners that you'd find in the old size 1 cotton tots. And it's not silky or soft at all - sort of a rough silk feeling, like some clothing. Does that sound like a silk liner, or maybe one that got boil washed? Maybe I should put it inside his disposable nappy? At the moment his skin is still looking very angry, possibly getting worse, despite a few hours in a disposable nappy. Maybe I didn't use the cream long enough, but the GP said to stop using it when the rash cleared up, and I used it even 2 days longer - but all in, only about 5 days total. Anyway, cotton tots nearly finished their boil wash - so we'll see if they work once the rash goes away again.

JennyPennyNAPPYWEB · 03/11/2009 19:48

That sounds like a good plan with the cotton tots Rachel. Hope it works! If that doesn't work then how about introducing one cloth nappy per day or something? So in sposies one dsy, then sposies excelt one cloth the next the 2 cloth etc.

Had a lovely delivery of 5 pairs of longies today! Only one pair is to keep though . But they are gorgeous! Had 4 made for nappyweb and while I was at it had a custom pair made for Elouise! They are so lovely. Only one colour, but I think I actually prefer them to the more fancy colourways. They will look good with loads of her clothes and they really show the detail in the wool. I think fancy colouring often takes away the focus from the actual wool detail. Love them and Elouise wore them 5 mins after I opened them!

I can't believe I am saying this but I am actually selling off all my lovely expensive stash and using micros full time!!! Just for the winter though probably and will save some large ones for when the summer comes. I am just not using anything other than micros at the moment as they can take days to dry and the micros are dry within a few hours. I hang them on the radiator airer before bed and then use them throughout the day, just taking them off when needed.

Octothechildherder · 03/11/2009 21:48

Jenny - are these your new nappies?

treedeLivingDeadery · 03/11/2009 22:18

New micros ordered octo! They really are the bestest ever on H at night. She is in a cream [preloved] with her stripey longies.

Jenny - I can see your logic. I love micros and softee, mostly micro though. Longies sound lovely, I like plain too.

Rachel, I have a liner with silver you can try too. I might be tempted to put those cotton ones in a pan and physically boil them for 10 mins. Or sterilise them in microwave like bottles. What cream is it? If its clotrimazole I'd def leap back in with it. And smear live yogurt on his bits too.

rachel a 60 degree wash should be hot enough to get rid of any thrush. We had horrendous issues with DD and fungal rashes and found that the only thing that would help was daktacort. Cloth or sposies made no diference with her though and her skin is only just clearing up after a month in pants.

thebluefoxategreensocks · 03/11/2009 23:31

Well, Clement isn't quite 7 months old, so pants aren't an option for us!

It's Timodine which he's on, which contains (among other things) nystatin, hydrocortisone, dimeticone, and benzalkonium chloride. It did clear up so nicely though - he had lovely clear skin, no redness. And was still quite nice when he woke up this morning, after all night in a Bedbug. So I was convinced it was a particular nappy that caused it, but then I wasn't sure 2.5 hours was long enough to bring it out, if it was that one. But I wonder if I should have used the cream longer - but having said that, he did have some cream put on him yesterday, I think. So not as if we'd totally stopped it.

guess I keep talking out loud here - someone to talk to when I'm totally confused!

mumface · 04/11/2009 10:36

Morning, does anybody know if an xl rikki will fit over on xl ellas house hemp? I'm glad I didn't buy one last week as have just found some on sale for £5.50 each, but not sure whether to get the wraps there too which are also on sale.

mumface · 04/11/2009 10:52

Just thought to look on EH website and they sell Rikki's saying they are suitable for all their nappies.
So, got 3 with camoflage, rainbow and turquoise inners and wetlands & ocean wraps. Have also got a WNNN (sculls, red fleece inner) coming and planning another (I'm thinking funny bunnies/guess how much I love u print with lime minkee inner)

Lewis soaked through 2 different nappies last night aarrghh! Ecobub Pockets not holding it some nights now (got soaked through, full bed change at 11pm) Then stuck a pampers disposible on that my mum left after having him, was drenched again in the morning Tried boosting pockets again but so thick he just wees out of the side.
Thank goodness all this will get used again on Connor!

Myjob Yes I reckon you are right about OBV WNNN being more absorbent but I have 3 bedbugs now which are OBV and will get another 1 or 2 when Babybots gets them so wanted something different & can't resist LE prints at WN!
Bedbugs take about 3 days to dry in front of a radiator and they are being used on Connor at the moment they do fit L but then would have nothing for C (so complicated )

mumface · 04/11/2009 11:59

If I had 10 bedbugs then it would not be complicated at all

Myjob Yes I am aware of how spoilt / obsessed with posh fluff I am!
Wowee to longies!!! They are really good, lovely colours.

Octo My replacement keyring just arrived, thanks.

NappyShedSal · 04/11/2009 13:03

myjob - micros aren't the most absorbent nappy - I would never recommend them as a Night nappy, but maybe under wool they might work better, if they could eveporate fast enough! But I would really reccomend a Lollipop softee instead - even softer than a micro, much more absorbent.

Yes - please send the ouchpouch to the address on the back of the envelope - also on my website page.

Good news re keyring too At last!

I prefer softees at night with a fleece cover - so lovely and soft - will try a micro tonight on ds3 to see how it compares. I would always suggest it for daytime but lot sof people have been saying they love it at night - can see it would stay nice and soft. There are some left still.

ds3 has had temp & sickness so quiet day ironing and we (yes we!) had a two hour sleep thia afternoon Lovely!

This may seem mad but another bag order is going through as have sold out of so many sizes/deisgns already!

Nappyshedsal - how did the event go on saturday in Oxford?

Octothechildherder · 04/11/2009 17:03

Rachelinscotland - meant to say about citrus fruits - would avoid if have nappy rash - can cause it and make it worse. Don't use baby wipes - fleece washable ones would be better as can make the rash sting.
