My DS who is nearly 5 is getting rather curious about certain things and asked me straight out what a ladies privates are called. I really didn't know what to say and just said 'private parts' but he wasn't happy with that!
There are plenty of acceptable words for a boys bits but nothing that quite seems acceptable for a girls, help please!

Squaddies I knew used 'axe wound'!

We're still on front bottom, but we're going to need to move on (DD, 4) soon. She's not asked yet, and in fact doesn't distinguish between front & back, instead she just calls the whole area 'bottom'. I'm thinking vagina is best (although anatomically incorrect) but it's just such a grim word. As is vulva. Failing that, I am wondering if fanjo will be confusing to teachers, because it's quite a good compromise.

wickerman · 24/04/2009 12:27

axe wound is grotesque.
Makes me bristle in an Andrea Dworkin stylee

Sshhbear · 24/04/2009 12:33

I like 'toosh'. That's what we say with our 2 year old and she can say it and it sounds casual and easy.

when i grew up, my mum used the term 'baby hole'

MumtoCharlieandLola · 24/04/2009 13:13

So pinkmagic, which delightful term are you going for ????

mamas12 · 24/04/2009 13:20

Well willy flat and willy wiggly in this house I'm afraid! (blush)

cornflakegirl · 24/04/2009 13:35

Vulva is a lovely word. Front bottom is an acceptable alternative.

alittleteapot · 24/04/2009 13:35

I think this is really hard too. There just isn't an equivalent of willy. Vulva is just not a nice word, and like saying patella for knee cap. Vagina or gina is nicer but not anatomically correct for the whole region. I hate fanny which seems to be the closest to willy. I need to find an answer fast so will be watching this thread closely for ideas. I think Gina is my favourite so far.

We used to call ours (3 girls) a wee-er! It's obviously pronounced like wier. A case of it does what it says on the tin I suppose!

shoptilidrop · 24/04/2009 19:37

we say 'penny' as thats what we called it when we were litle.. think its comes from spending a penny when you had a wee?

kingfix · 24/04/2009 19:43

I told my dd that it was a vulva, but she can't say that so she calls it her oval, which has stuck, but will confuse anyone outside the family.

happywomble · 24/04/2009 19:48

fanny

earlyriser · 24/04/2009 19:55

Girlie bits.

Mumcentreplus · 25/04/2009 10:12

front bottom?..dunno bit confusing

shivermetimbers · 25/04/2009 10:32

We say girly bits too, and dangly bits for boys.

shinyshoes · 25/04/2009 10:37

I love threads like these they are hilarious.

can't contribute to it myself I call it a Vajayjay

PadDad · 25/04/2009 10:44

VeeVee? Acronym for the correct term vulva.

DuffyFluckling · 25/04/2009 10:46

Due to a slight misunderstanding, my dd has a volvo.

emmabemmasmom · 25/04/2009 10:56

bug

My family have always called it that...cause it looks like the hood of a VW Bug

EvaLongoria · 25/04/2009 11:23

I like the sound of foofoo and fangita but latter sounds so much like DH's grandma so he has banned me from using it,
He wants me to refer to it as tuppance as that was what he was told when younger.

Belindabutterfingers · 25/04/2009 22:07

Punani

Etymology: Mod. Hawaiian punani (lit. heavenly flower) from Old Hawaiian pua (blossom); nani (glory, splendor, heavenly)

prettyfly1 · 26/04/2009 18:00

we go with luey in this house.

steppemum · 26/04/2009 18:30

We've always called boys bits a willy, but I hadn't yet come up with a girls one. and recently ds (aged 6) and dd1 (aged 4) have started a silly teasing game as they race to be the first undressed. The first one is allowed to shout 'I can see your willy' or 'I can see your wee hole' so they have invented wee hole, and I am not sure if I am going to change it...
