Rachel - are hemp BBH good? We have bamboo and love them but not too sure on hemp. I would need to top the hemp with bamboo anyway for Elouise as hemp just doesn't absorb quick enough for her power wees. Seems fine on Talia though. Wondering if I could mix and match the hemp inserts to make a mixture of hemp and bamboo in each nappy. I have seen a few hemp BBH and never been too sure on them!

4andnotout · 09/06/2009 21:42

I have a bbh and liked it so much i have another two coming, it isn't as soft but it isn't really hard iykwim, you could use bbh bamboo inserts in them if you wanted.
Dp posted your nappies to you today

twoclimbingboys · 09/06/2009 21:54

Jenny - Yes, I have 4 larges. They are Blake's slimmest fitting nappy (except ella's house hemp day). They are really fab, but slow drying. Slimmer than little lambs bamboos or UD fitteds etc.

Has anyone got any extra large ME's wraps please???

I have loadsa large but they too tight on Zachary

JennyPenny22 · 09/06/2009 22:05

Are they as absorbant as UD fitteds?

4 - do you have hemp or bamboo ones? I now have a hemp on the way!

4andnotout · 09/06/2009 22:17

Jenny- ihave 5 bamboo and 1 hemp and another 2 on the way, i missed the word 'hemp' out of that post to you

JennyPenny22 · 09/06/2009 22:54

Lol. The hemp seem to be cheaper and more avaliable preloved than bamboo. Maybe they are not as good?

Got quite a lot of stuff due to arrive but I will probably be out when the postman comes tomorrow! Hopefully he will leave it outside!

JennyPenny22 · 09/06/2009 22:55

TLES - sorry I missed your message. DOn't have any XL im afraid!

TheLadyEvenstar · 09/06/2009 23:10

I am missing getting fluffy post lol

thebluefoxategreensocks · 09/06/2009 23:37

re hemp BBHs - they're OK, and certainly seem to be larger than the bamboo ones (at least has been so in my experience) but I have to say I prefer the Mamabless one I have. Would be keen to try their bamboo version of it too, but never seen any secondhand ones. But seems with all hemp nappies, they don't soak up quick enough to use on Benjamin at nights. I can use bamboo on him - even tried Bamboozles at night without any leaks (as long as no fleece inside) but when I tried a hemp nappy, we had a wet bed.

JennyPenny22 · 10/06/2009 07:52

Rachel - can I ask what you use on Clement for nights? Sorry if you have already said!

I got your wipes bits - they are lovely, thank you! I will use one when I make up the next lot of wipes later.

JennyPenny22 · 10/06/2009 08:05

I also have this on its way:
"2) Easy Peasy Harmony one-size hemp/organic cotton nappy with poppers. Comes with a long booster (popper fastening). Very lightly used, and otherwise in excellent condition except for some light staining on the inside." Paid £7.50 plus post for this and a BBH hemp. Hoping that even if Elouise doesn't get on with the hemp, I could use them on Talia for nights (if not using the bumhuggers) and save the bamboo BBH for going out.

Sorry, I realise I have gone on about BBH and night nappies for a long time now .

4andnotout · 10/06/2009 08:37

Im thinking of selling my large bumhuggers they are new style, i have 3 good ones which are as new and would want £5 each or 2 which the leg elastic have gone £3 that includes postage.
I think im getting far too ocd about nappies i was thinking of selling my purple bbh bamboo just because all the rest are the natural colour, i think i may be taking it too far!

thebluefoxategreensocks · 10/06/2009 10:50

jenny: I haven't really been using anything special on Clement at night. To be honest, I find his old style (very thick) cotton Tots Bots work very well. They'll easily last him all night - changing him between 10-12pm (depending on when he has his last feed before I go to bed) and then no change until 7-8am. We use wool or Tots fleece cover and although nappy is very wet, it's still soaking up! So most nights that's what he's wearing, though also the Swaddlebees ocv (organic cotton velour) btp fitted nappy works nicely - but only have one of them! Last night I put him in a size 2 nippa Bamboozle and nearly half was still dry, so plenty absorbant. I'd bought the Bumhuggers to use for him at nights, but since the Cotton Tots work quite well, I'm happy to stay with something I have plenty of! I guess since we can't use fleece lined nappies for Benjamin anymore, I've got away from the idea that night nappies have to be a certain way! Though I still love our HL Bedbugs!

JennyPenny22 · 10/06/2009 14:35

Rachel - not sure if our cotton tots are new or old but we are selling them because even in the day time they only last about 2 hours.

I am wondering if I am going wrong somewhere TBH. Elouise and Talia both seem to soak through almost everything. Surely they can't be both mega wetters? Is there even such a thing as heavy wetting for a newborn!? Lol. But I have tried stripping everything, doing extra rinses etc and that doesn't seem to have made a difference. I was the same as most people on CNT and don't really know what else it could be? We get so many leaks or at least absolutly sodden nappies that it is actually making me fed up and like I want to just give up with them. Never thought I would say it but I keep being tempted to use sposies, and are using sposies when we go out, which is a fair bit. I don't want to switch to them, but I am fed up of leaks and the kids being wet up to their bellys!

thebluefoxategreensocks · 10/06/2009 15:00

oh dear, poor you Jenny! What wraps do you use? I really don't get any problems when I'm using Motherease Airflows - as long as they are not worn out ones! Wool can be a bit hit & miss in my experience - depending on how felted it is, or thickness. So I occasionally get dampness if the wool isn't totally up to 100% waterproofness. But I find fitted Tots Bots and ME wraps just never leak me! Well, unless I leave Benjamin several hours after he's drunk 1+ tall beaker of juice! I just change them frequently enough to cope with how much liquid they're taking it - and find that disposables aren't any different - worse rather!

JennyPenny22 · 10/06/2009 15:28

We use fairly good wraps I think. Talia has a mixture of ME, Tots, nature babies, wool, fleece. Elouise has lots of wool, fleece UD, ME, WN.

TBH I don't think it is the wraps, as we don't really get any leaks at night (but majorly boost ELouise's UDNN/WNNN) - although they are very wet by morning but can cope with that.

Elouise does drink a fair bit of milk and water, as she isn't eating much at the moment due to teething. Talia is Breastfed and does feed a lot but I think all babies do at this age?!

Octothechildherder · 10/06/2009 19:40

Have you tried onelife popper covers - I used these overnight on ds3 and nothing escaped - we are toilet training so happy to post you one for postage. Cat me!

Octothechildherder · 10/06/2009 21:18

Someone tell me about soy! I need to know everything. Have seen it is a natural fabric but what is it like to touch, how absorbent is it etc? May buy some fabric to make boosters out of if it is the 'new' thing!

thebluefoxategreensocks · 10/06/2009 21:24

Just sharing a few pics!

Here's Clement's new (preloved) Babylongleg shorties - they fit so well, are totally waterproof, and extra soft & comfy!

4andnotout · 10/06/2009 21:39

Ahh! They are so cute! I have dd4 weighed today and she is a very petite 14lb 12oz at 33 weeks.

Octothechildherder · 10/06/2009 21:53

I am about to start stocking these! Will let you know when they arrive and what on earth they cost in pounds!!!!

monkeyfootdesigns.com/catalog.php?category=28

I am about to launch my own website - mostly Lollipop though - but with a few extra, very cool twists! Not long to go ....

thebluefoxategreensocks · 10/06/2009 23:04

oct: wow, what fancy wet bags! Never seen anything like them before!

4: Your little girl reminds me of Abigail, as she was very petite when she was little. However, she was nearly 17lbs at 29 weeks. But Clement was already heavier at 6 weeks than Abigail was at 13 weeks! lol Not sure what he weighs now - but he was nearly 13lbs at 6 weeks - but not seeing HV again until he's 3mo (1 month away) - by which time he'll be even more huge, I'm sure!

4andnotout · 11/06/2009 07:37

octo those bags are lovely, i might need one

rachel dd's 2,3&4 are all petite little things but it's not surprising really as im 4'11 and dp isn't particularly tall, dd1's bio dad was 6'3 so it's no wonder she is v.tall.

DD2(4)& DD3(20M)

DD4

DD2

Off to the market in a bit, hope the postie brings me some fluffy post whilst im out I haven't had any in days!
