I hope someone else is training too as we can celebrate and commiserate together
since dd got up this morning she has been bare bottomed. i have left the potty out and told her where it is and left her to it mostly.
she has weed on it 4 times, pood on it once and had 1 accident near the potty while eating, she made no attempt to get to the potty and i think she was more bothered about her lunch.
i have done her a tick chart to tick whenever she uses the potty and she loves it, she says tick chart now when she goes.
The only time i intervened was when she hadnt weed for 2hrs 15 mins so i gave her milk and sat her on the potty and she weed.
She is now asleep so ive put her a nappy on and told her its a sleep nappy.
Hopefully some of you will come and join me.
When bare bottomes what do you do when they sit in their highchair etc, i have laid a nappy open in the chair.

i agree with provincial lady in that a month or so ago dd would sit on the potty clothed for ages and do nothing, we would read etc to keep her there trying to catch a wee but it was pointless. what i did manage was to catch most of her poos this way as i knew her cues.
but now i am leaving her to go herself it is different, we dont sit there for ages reading, she sits down wees and gets up again, much better, so she is more ready now.

I have tried and tried today to get her to pull her pants up and down and she cant. she sat on the floor and put her 2 feet through one leg hole and out the other and got in a knot. when they are up she pulls the front down but the back gets stuck on her bum and when they are down she tugs them but gets nowhere. dont know how to teach her, is it just practice?

Today we had a poo and 5 wees in th potty, no accidents and an hour trip to the park in pants so a really good day!

Well done ilovetochat's dd.

tryingtobemarypoppins · 11/04/2009 20:33

Wow! Just reading through this thread I can't believe how young your DD is ilovetochat! I just assumed I would start to think about PT when DS is 2 and a half???

How do you know they are ready? I would like him talking first??!! He is only 17 months!

Interested in this thread?

hi mary poppins, dd does talk quite a lot tbh and understands a lot of waht we say to her.
I got her a potty at xmas when she was 17 months and left it around for her to carry round and play with. she would sit on it clothed and have stories etc, like a little chair. dd just sat on the potty one day and pood at 18 months, so since then i have left her bare for about an hour morning and night and left the potty out and she has someties gone and used it.

Good idea! Think I'll give it a go! Thanks ilovetochat!

hazeyjane · 11/04/2009 23:06

well dd1 has had 3 accidents today, each time on dh! She seems to be holding it in for ages, and then says 'mummy, i've done a little bit of wee in my pants, is that ok?'
She is suddenly reluctant to sit on the potty as well, which is what happened when we tried before. Oh well, gently does it!

Oh yes and she waited until we put a nappy on her at bedtime, before she would do a poo.

Dd2 has just been wearing her potty as a hat.

Well done everybody and their lo's - it's hard going isn't it?!

TheProvincialLady · 12/04/2009 08:04

Potty hat

I am a bit worried that today will see lots of accidents because we have the in laws over for Easter. We have asked them in advance to say absolutely nothing abouts DS bare bottom and when he uses the potty etc but he loves them being here and might be having too much fun to remember to go. Imagine that will be the same for many of our LOs today.

Happy Easter everyone

hazeyjane · 12/04/2009 09:08

Yes dd1 had an accident while hunting for eggs in the garden, and one when eating an egg - oh dear!

Happy (hopefully dry!) Easter everyone.

hoppybird · 12/04/2009 11:04

Well, yesterday, I saw that dd was desperate for a wee, and got her to sit on the potty, To encourage her, I got a little bowl of water and her plastic Bathstore duck (which has a hole in the bottom), and showed her how he can do a wee. It did help a little as she got some dribbles in the pot, enough of a dribble to put in the toilet, but she still held on until I put her in pants. However, she recognised they were wet, although she said 'I done a big poo' - she obviously hasn't recognised weeing properly yet.

Anyway, this morning after breakfast, again, reading stories to her on the potty, she did a few little dribbles, and I said "Look, you've done a little yellow wee!" as I put it in the toilet. She was interested that it was yellow, (I remembered that had encouraged my ds - obviously kids are fascinated that they can create 'yellow') but she kept getting up and dancing around, obviously desperate, but not quite knowing how to let go in the potty. I got the duck out again and showed her it piddling in the bowl (nice encouraging tinkly noise) dd jumping around getting more and more desperate to go, then I noticed dribbles on the bathroom floor, so I said "Ooo, wee-wee dribbles! Let's sit you on the pot while I wipe them up!" Whereupon, she did a huge wee in the pot, stood up, and said "Look!" I made a huge celebration, and she was very happy. I showed her how it was yellow as I poured it in the toilet, and she said "Again! again!", but realised she couldn't go. It's certainly a breakthrough!

hazeyjane · 12/04/2009 11:32

Well dd1 is having huge screaming tantrums now everytime we ask her (gently!) to sit in the potty - and has just had her 4th accident. It is very difficult, because she just seems to feel terrified about the whole thing. She never does well with change, and I think this is just a bit overwhelming for her.

Any suggestions would be lovely - please!?

Foxy800 · 12/04/2009 13:56

Sorry hazeyjane no suggestions, just wanted to let you know you are not alone, dd was liek thaat last time we tried before christmas and is abit like that this time but not as bad.

She has had no accidents so far today but also nothing on the potty.

I think my dd finds it all too much too but think I need to watch her as she not pood for 4 days now and holding in her wee for ages.

So suggestions here would be appeciated too.

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 12/04/2009 16:26

hazeyjane our DS is doing the same if we want him to go on the potty and the timing isn't right for him. If I try tactful negotiation with bribes it works a bit better. e.g. we are going to go to the beach but you'll need to sit on the potty first.

However, saying that, we have had no direct hits so far today. He did one massive wee outside in his pants and still no poos!

I think the holding the wee for ages is a good thing Foxy. I think it means that they have good bladder control. Went a trip in the car today and no accidents.

TheProvincialLady · 12/04/2009 16:32

Hoppybird that is lovely and it sounds like you handled it all really well. Hopefully she will stay keen now.

Still no accidents which makes 3 days now so I am delighted. Next step trousers!

Foxy800 · 12/04/2009 17:17

Thanks halfmumhalfbiscuit.

Well she went 6 hours then flooded the living room floor!!! I was in another room, could hear she was crying, when went back in she had wet, dp and my brother were sitting on sofa!!!When asked why they hadnt seen to her they said they thought she was crying cause I wasnt in the room!!!If they had decided to look they may have managed to get some on the potty.MEN!!!!

Foxy800 · 12/04/2009 17:20

Meant to say we walked to the shop twice today and she was dry both times. Once she was in her buggy as she was tired,(Just put a towel in for her to sit on), other time she walked.

Foxy800 · 12/04/2009 18:29

Yeah we have just done a poo on the potty. I had to hold her on it cause she wasnt happy about it but was happy at the end when she got 2 chocolate buttons!!!

So today we have had 1 accident and a poo on the potty so getting there very very slowly, hopefully.

Ready for bed now so will see how we get on tomorrow. (GOing round in laws tomorrow afternoon so will see how we get on there).

hazeyjane · 12/04/2009 19:09

Well today we have gone from me saying to dh ' we have got to go back to nappies' to dd1 saying 'mummy i'm going to go for a poo on the big toilet', and we even had a wee over a bush when we went for a walk (although i now have muscles in my forearms like Popeye from holding her up for ages whilst she said, 'here it comes, mummy, here it comes...')

so - about 10 accidents (must buy more knickers), 4 wees on the potty, 1 wee in a bush and 1 poo on the toilet.

I'm exhausted!

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 12/04/2009 19:57

Well another day of potty training has ended with absolutely no potty hits. We'll start all over again tomorrow.

DS only did 2 wees today and still hasn't done a poo (3 days now). He must be holding it in.

He has sat on the potty a couple of times. He did a wee whilst on a chair getting ready for dinner... oh well.

Then, bizarrely, he wanted to sit on the potty on the chair . I wasn't sure what to do so left him for a bit and said he needs to get off the potty to have his tea which he did.

hazeyjane sounds like you have had an excellent day (apart from all the accidents).

ilovetochat · 12/04/2009 20:22

happy easter everyone!
First thing dd did a wee in her chair while eating breakfast and she just said oh dear but she didnt cry just helped me clean up so she was ok, (dont know about the chair )
Since then she has done a poo and 4 wees in the potty and no more accidents.
she is in pants and trousers today and has said potty each time she wants to go and we have to undress her.
we did a 2 hour trip to church and she was in pants and asked for potty during the service and she waited till we got her to the potty which was good. then this asfternoon we went for a walk for an hour to feed the ducks and she was dry
i did wait till she had just weed before going out.
im still just using a tick chart rather than actual rewards and i'm not asking her at all if she wants to go, i just remind her she has no nappy and must ask when she wants.
im really pleased with her.
she is in nappy for her naps but she sleeps 2-3hrs and was wet again today so im happy to let her sleep in nappys still for now.

hoppybird · 13/04/2009 00:17

Thanks for that, ProvincialLady - was the only success of the day though! She is still keen on sitting, and did say "poo was ready to come out" but then discovered she couldn't go. I KNOW she's constipated - I've been working at at trying to, ahem, get things to firm up that end, as it's been a bit loose. I guess it was one cracker too many! Still, tomorrow is another day!

Hazeyjane LOL @ your dd saying "Here it comes, mummy..." (btw your pics of your dds are so sweet, particularly that first one).

Foxy Well done your dd for a poo in the pot! Shame about your menfolk being a bit slow about the wee, though.

ilovetochat - sounds like a good day.

I think, though, I'm also having a problem with worrying about the downstairs floor (it's newly laid oiled oak). I don't mind her being bare-bottomed elsewhere, but I'd rather she had training pants on when she's downstairs. However, I realised too late that only one of my ds's old training pants fit dd properly (she's a lot slimmer, it seems). I think things will go a bit more smoothly once I get her some more training pants that actually fit and can hold a hefty accident. I don't think it does any good if I'm twitchy about getting the floor wet.

hazeyjane · 13/04/2009 12:05

Thankyou hoppybird, she is a big fan of dressing herself as you can see!

Wow it's a real rollercoaster this potty training thing. dd's are sat watching Dora Fairytale Adventure as a reward (ie I'm knackered, needed a cup of coffee and a mumsnet) because dd1 just went to the big toilet and did a poo , wiped her bottom, washed her hands and then came and asked me for 4 chocolate buttons (currency has shot up here, I am seriously impressed that you dd is satisfied with ticks ilovetochat!)

So far today there has been no accidents, but she seems to do her wees in little dribbles, so goes every 5 minutes, does anyone else have this? I think maybe she is loving the attention of it all. Unfortunately on the flipside poor dd2 is being rather neglected and is feeling pretty disgruntled about the lack of chocolate buttons. Her turn will come...

Hope everyone is doing okay

Foxy800 · 13/04/2009 12:23

Well so far we have have had 1 accident but we are very keen to sit on it when asked (occasionally still tearful but will do it).

Have discovered I think she prefers the toilet so have put toilet seat on upstairs one and downstairs one. Then potty is still in living room.

Its such hard work isnt it? Im a trained nursery nurse and I have to say it is a lot easier to train someone else's lo but that is cause the parents have done the hard work!!!!

Another thing I have noticed is she is not being as naughty today or stroppy so hopefully she is starting to settle down with the idea of potty training!!!

GOod luck to everyone's los.

ilovetochat · 13/04/2009 15:34

dd has had no accidents today but is now only weeing every 3 hours or so, not sure if its bad to hold it that long?
managed a trip to the park for an hour but feel like my life revolves round potty use and im getting cabin fever aaagh.

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 13/04/2009 16:59

One accident so far today. Not much joy in getting him to sit on the potty.

Did a poo in his pants then sat on potty. Treats have back fired as now wants sweets if he has weed and if he sits on potty. He is sat on my knee so difficult to type. (hope he doesn't wee!)

Best of luck everyone.

Foxy800 · 13/04/2009 19:34

Well we have had 3 accidents today but got a little bit on the potty with 1 of them. Was expecting a couple though as we were at grandparents this afternoon.

Very keen to sit on toilet with seat now though ( well most of the time).

Halfmum, she too is trying to get treats but luckily is accepting it when I say no.

Have you tried stickers for trying and treats for using the potty? Just wondered as I have discovered she is happy to have stickers for sitting on it and treats for actually doing something. (wouldnt say no if offered a treat though!!!lol).

Will see how he gets on tomorrow when I am at work.
