my dd is 13 months and although she is standing on the sofa nd in her cot she does not want to stand on the floor or walk at all. my usual thoughts on this subject is that she will walk when she is ready but my mil is constantly bringing it up to the point that she is informing me of every other baby that she knows walking age.

Ds was 8.5mths DD1 was 13mths and Dd2 was 9mths. Ignore MIL it is actually nicer when they arent walking..lol

Nemoandthefishes · 10/03/2009 09:50

oh and to add my friends have a 17mths old who is just cruising as did my cousins baby

Orangesarenottheonlyfruit · 10/03/2009 09:51

My DD didn't crawl, was 'late' for almost every milestone, except she started walking at 11 months! A friend's DS was v advanced in almost everything but didn't start walking till 16 months. She, herself, didn't walk until 2 but now is very agile, trained as a dancer and is a yoga expert. What you'rew supposed to do when all total rubbish in my opinion. As everyone always says, Tiger Woods didn't walk until 2.

DD1 - 1year and 1 day.
DD2 - 15 months
DS - 16 months

I don't think you've anything to worry about, as you say, she'll walk when she's ready..

Aranea · 10/03/2009 09:53

My dd1 finally started walking alone at 17 months. Don't worry about it. I know it is hard when everyone else's baby is walking and yours isn't, but even my dd was well within the normal range!

mynameis · 10/03/2009 09:53

DS1 - 12MONTHS
DD - 10 MONTHS
DS2 - 14 MONTHS

All very different but as Nemoandthefishes said it is much nicer and easier when they aren't walking

purplemonkeydishwasher · 10/03/2009 09:53

DS - 10 months

McDreamy · 10/03/2009 09:56

Both DD and DS 13 months

gingertoo · 10/03/2009 09:59

ds1 - 10 months
ds2 - 19 months
ds3 - 13 months
They're all different - Your dd sounds as if she is 'having a go' by standing in her cot and on the sofa. She'll walk when she's good and ready - Try not to worry and ignore the mil - lol!

Gorionine · 10/03/2009 10:10

Dd1 - 13 mths
Ds2 - 11 mths
Ds3 - 18 mths
Dd4 - 9 mths

I do not think there is a rule. I was told by someone at toddlers group that professionals used to investigate at 18mths if the child was not walking and that the deadline has now be put to two year. I have not verrified the information and do not know wether it is because lack of resources or because there is really nothing to worry about before 2yo. Maybe you could ask your HV ehat the current guidlines are exactly but at 13 mths I do not think it is bizzare if your dd is not walking yet!

It is a MIL's job to make you feel inadequate! Do not pay too much attention and point at all the things your Dd already does better than others!

CompareTheMeerkat · 10/03/2009 10:12

Both DS and DD walked at 15 months.

MollieO · 10/03/2009 10:16

22 mths. It was much nicer when ds started walking as I got a bit fed up having to carry him everywhere!

MrsJoeMcIntyre · 10/03/2009 10:16

14 months.

nickytwotimes · 10/03/2009 10:17

About 15 mths

kidcreoleandthecoconuts · 10/03/2009 10:18

DS was 14 months.

Lizzylou · 10/03/2009 10:24

DS1 11months
DS2 15months

funnypeculiar · 10/03/2009 10:28

Both at 18 months.
Fwiw, I suspect goreoline is right I know that ages for sitting have been moved 'backwards' as babies are sitting later due to the back to sleep campaign & spending less time on their fronts -seems likely that would trickle through.

NB you might also want to know that early walking is not 'proof' of anything - ie early walkers are not more physical/brighter when measured at a later age.

BonsoirAnna · 10/03/2009 10:33

DD - 10 months

Gorionine · 10/03/2009 10:35

Good thing to point out funnypeculiar, regarding later measurements.

feedthegoat · 10/03/2009 10:41

My ds was 13 months and tbh it came out of the blue. He was a really good crawler and pretty much missed the cruising stage altogether. One day he just stood up and walked. He didn't do it again for another couple of days and I started to think I'd imagined it!. I think they do it when they are ready, pretty much like everything else.

funnypeculiar · 10/03/2009 10:45

Thanks gorionine - & apologies for early spelling of your name
