my dd is 13 months and although she is standing on the sofa nd in her cot she does not want to stand on the floor or walk at all. my usual thoughts on this subject is that she will walk when she is ready but my mil is constantly bringing it up to the point that she is informing me of every other baby that she knows walking age.

Average for walking is 14 MO not 1 year as sometimes thought. DS is 14MO and looking like he is considering walking! Probably another 6-8 weeks off walking all the time I think. Still, I can't see why walking is much more problematic than crawling - DS just wants to crawl around when we are out which is quite alarming in grotty public places. And he is most definitely 'fiddling with stuff'!

I'm not surprised. I felt run ragged after ds started walking at 10months, I had a good four extra months than you! Respect

NormaJeanBaker · 11/03/2009 10:57

DD1 - 11 months
DS - 11 months
DD2 - 10 months

All take after their speedy Dad. I barely walk now and I'm 38.

DD 21 months!

MrsMattie · 11/03/2009 10:59

My DS was 10 mths old. He was one of those babies that did everything really early, and it was quite exhausting, looking back! DD is only 4 mths old, but I already get the feeling she is a bit more chilled out. DS crawled at 5 mths. DD cries if I put her on her tummy for a second

onepieceofcremeegg · 11/03/2009 11:03

dd1 - 20 months

dd2 - still not walking at almost 19 months (but nearly there!)
She charges about behind her v-tech trolley/walker, shouting insults at me if anything (coffee table, door etc) gets in her way!

The nursery nurse based with our hv (staff shortages) called me in a couple of times as they were concerned earlier on as she was "late" to roll, crawl etc. I reassured them that dd1 had followed the same pattern and all turned out well.

The "guideline" used to be 18 months - not sure what it is now. My hv at the time was dismissive of that and reassured me that dd1 was fine (that hv has now retired)

LittleMissBliss · 11/03/2009 14:14

ds 13 months

pud1 · 11/03/2009 14:15

tbh dont think she wants to walk as she crawls so well she has no problems getting about

If your lo has not started taking much weight on their feet (like my dd2) and they are older than 18 months, then it might be worth asking for a referral to a physio. Dd2 has very soft ligaments, and was up on her feet as soon as she had a stiff pair of shoes on. I'm sure that often there isn't a problem, but we noticed dd's feet turned out so badly that she really couldn't put weight on them at all.

DS 14 months
DD 18 months

My friends twins both walked at 10 months - they are all different.

Riven - wow 6 months!! Amazing.
