rusmum bag has arrive, so if you still want it let me know...
Hi everyone else

thebluefoxategreensocks · 24/01/2009 14:43

If anyone else is looking for wool...I have one needing a new home!

It's a large wool wrap, velcro fastening. Can't remember what brand the label says, but looks almost identical to the Disana one here:www.twinkleontheweb.co.uk/acatalog/Disanawool.jpg

Size is 86/92cm (large), website estimates it as: up to 30lb (12kg) (12-30months), though obviously would depend on build of child!

I dyed it a funky red/orange colour with food colouring. I think I've successfully set the colour (so it won't run) but obviously can't totally guarantee it! It's got a small stain on the back - I think previous owner might have spilled some lanolin on it directly, but doesn't effect it's use! Especially as it would be ideal for a wrap over night nappies, when back isn't seen anyway!

Looking for £5 posted!

Pics here if anyone wants to see it:

And still have the nearly new Wonderoo - if anyone wants to swap something for it! Don't like having nappies sitting around that aren't being used...unless they're waiting for bump to arrive! LOL

I am too lazy to search so please indulge me...

how can i take away that weird smell from my wraps? I am using the Little Lambs wraps.

And the nappies are crunchy now (bamboo) how do I soften them up? No tumble drier.

thanks

ToAMountainDAISYcal · 24/01/2009 15:20

foxyt, add a cup of vinegar to the rinse cycle. Should soften them up a bit. you could always strip them as well, but can't remember how to do that exactly, but it involves spaking in water/vinegar overnight then washing with full dose of bio powder and rinsing until no more bubbles. But that might just be for getting rid of stale smells?

what weird smell from the wraps?

hello all; I can't keep up with this thread anymore!

has tree had her baby?

baby beehinds rock....so so thirsty it's unreal and a good choice as a night nappy. The hemp are really slim fitting as well.

swampster · 24/01/2009 15:32

I NEED cute woolly longies, rachelinscotland!

AnnVan · 24/01/2009 15:38

swampster a MN lady has offered to make me a woolly cover

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 24/01/2009 16:23

foxy - add some white vinegar to the last rinse. failing that, hang them out in the rain (though not sure how much rain you get over there!). but the only wasy I got mine soft was with the tumble dryer. or Stripping... there are instructions s.where

tree had a girl!! she just posted on volume 4!!

cyteen · 24/01/2009 16:29

am v interested in all this talk of thirsty night nappies - my hand is hovering over the 'buy' button on Baby Beehinds' site (i am sick of washing wee-soaked pyjamas, lol).

am also being drawn into the whole soft wrap thing, that way everyone gets to share in the cuteness of cloth rather than it being hidden under PUL. but hark at me, wtf do i know, i haven't even tried a cloth nappy yet!

think my nappy lady parcel may be waiting for me at the post office...

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 24/01/2009 16:36

foxy, found this in my "nappy file" : stripping - wash nappies, then soak them in white vinegar and cold water (500ml bottle of vinegar and top up the nappy bucket with water) overnight. Then put the whole lot in the washer, do a pre-rinse on cold, wash hot with a full dose of biological detergent. Rinse two times with warm or cold water to shift the detergent. hth

foxytocin · 24/01/2009 17:19

thanks for that sunshine

lollipopmother · 24/01/2009 23:57

I just saw this on another website and am seriously , it's from The Ecologist about nappies:

The average baby will go through 5,000 nappies. As 85 per cent of people are using disposables, they now form 4 per cent of all household waste, costing the taxpayer £40m each year to dispose of them.

Of the approximately 8 million disposable nappies used in the UK every day, around 7.5 million end up in landfill sites.

Disposable nappies use three and a half times more energy than real nappies to produce, eight times more non-renewable materials and 90 times more renewable resources.

The 3 billion disposable nappies thrown away each year add 1 million tonnes of nappy waste to our already overfull landfill sites. They then take up to 500 years to decompose, and produce the potent greenhouse gas methane and leachate, a toxic liquid that can leak into soil and local water supplies. The 10 per cent that aren't landfilled get incinerated, a process that results in the release of carcinogenic dioxins into the atmosphere and creates ash (which does need to be landfilled) containing heavy metals and other toxins."
