Remind what's good about having 2 boys

..friend upset me this morning by going on about how she couldn't bear the thought of having 2 boys and was so happy to have one of each, how her daughter was such a joy etc etc. I just feel so upset now, as I've always wanted a girl and have been trying to come to terms with having 2 boys, the second of which is very demanding and hard work. Sorry,more of a rant than anything,but I just feel so upset

Your boys will hang out with each other and become friends as well as brothers when they get older

Children are individuals and I think it's wrong to attribute loveliness to being a girl. I've got two lovely children who happen to be boys.

Don't think it's a very sensitive thing to say.

Anyway, contary to what I just said, if sexual stereotypes are to be believed, you'll be feeling smug when they're teenagers.

Well I think your friend is:

a) a complete twit
b) completely wrong
c) has no idea what she is raving about

Boys are great! They play in the garden in all weather, they are less stroppy when they grow up, they love their mums more than girls and they cannot get preggo when teens!

Also they love just as much as girls do.

PS I love girls too, so hope no one is offended by this list... I just think that some people act like boys are second best.

Just wait until your freinds girl is screaming at her full of 15 year old hormones...

What a meanie your friend is, thats really insensitive, particularly if she knows you would have liked a girl.

My husband and his brother had a great relationship as children, lots of rough and tumble, enacting A team scenarios, but would always protect their mummy, very loyal to family.

Either sex child can be demanding and hard work, my DDis challenging me at present, I think the childcare books call it "exploring boundaries"....

Boys tend to be less stroppy as teenagers. They are generally very active, funny and affectionate, and as Dragon points out, no pink crap!

I've got 3 sons and no daughters - so I'll always be the princess in this house!

Boys will play together really well as they grow up, they won't pinch your make-up, clothes, hair straightners or shoes, boys always need their mums.

I wanted a daughter and was a little disappointed when I found out that DS3 was not a girl to compound things he was really hard work. But it is seriously cool having 3 of a kind trotting around behind you and boys are fab in a mad, disjointed, puppy kind of way.

Thanks guys,I've calmed down a bit now. I know girls can be just as hard work, but it's really easy to attribute difficultness being down to the fact that they're boys. Having a girl just seems like the holy grail to me. But you're right,no pink crap is a big bonus as is the idea that they'll be good mates when they get older - and boys definitely do love their mums

they will all go off to the football on saturday afternoons when they are older and you can get some quality time for yourself.... (Gladrags sighs wistfully and faces up to reality of being dragged round shops every Saturday by small but determined daughter...)

All kids are ace. Who really cares what gender they are? You love them all the same. We have two gorgeous boys as well and whilst both times we would have liked a girl it's not what we got and frankly we don't care. Boys toys are much cooler too imo!

I agree with yomella. Don't really like playing into the stereotypes by saying 'two boys are great because...'
I have two boys and I love them both to bits. I'd have thought two girls were fab too All families are unique, just as all people are individuals and not just their gender.
Rise above it and just get on with loving your family.

My boys are delicious, they call me their Beautiful Princess and fight over me, never happened before I had children!

DH looks aghast at scantily clad teen girls and always says "I'm so glad we have boys"!

I'd have loved one of each, but my two boys are scrumptious, boisterous bundles of energy and truly adore each other. It's also so cheap re: clothing/toys!

Gosh I am actually kinda hoping for a boy this time around. My DS is just so much damn fun that the thought of another one sounds great. Though having said that, a daughter would be a whole bunch of fun as well!

I lived in fear of having a boy when pregnant with my first child. I think I went into shock when I found out I had a son. But honestly, he has been such a joy (bloody hard work ...but a joy) that I would gladly have another boy (I'm 36 weeks pregnant with no.2, so it could happen...). I doubt we'll be having any more chiuldren, so there will always be a little sadness if I never have a daughter, but honestly? I'll take what I get happily and be grateful and glad for a healthy child. I also think that I'm probably better suited to being a mum of boys, for lots of reasons....

And oh lordy don't little boys love their mummies! Have definitely noticed a difference between boys and girls in this (though obviously it isn't ALWAYS the case that boys are more physically affectionate with their mums, before everyone freaks!).

My friend's little girls seem a lot more "self contained" than the boys I know (including mine).

the unique way in which they whack each other with a wooden spoon exclaiming that their light sabers...

...this usually happens when I run to the toilet and I am very proud in the way in which they have to work as a team to break into the kitchen, drag a stool and find spoons, ingenious...

...couldn't smile when they were trying to climb upto the top of the shed and fly (I hasten to add that this happened in front of me..quietly sipping a cup of tea in the garden as they were happily playing in the sand pit, when they started dragging a table and stacking chairs on the top etc..they were working soooo well together!)..but boy do they imagination!!

is your friend not trying a little too hard to convince herself maybe?? Its extremely insensitive. During both my pregnancys I thought I was carrying girls and had hoped for 1 of each but the closeness I see because I have two of the same sex is wonderful

I really really really wish I had two boys - I have one and I envy people with two as their sons have always got someone to kick a football with/wrestle with etc etc. You are lucky, honestly

My boys adore each other and i hope they grow up to be the greatest of mates! Would of liked to "experience" being a mum to a girl but it doesnt upset me at all!

When had my second boy, I'll admit I was diappointed, becasue i wanted 'one of 'each' but actually they wouldn't have played togethr half as well - they are really close, and a joy to be with. I don't understand most tof heri conversation, which revolves around star wars characters and lego-building, but think they would have missed out on a lot by not ahving a brother. (Tho' must admit, as i hate shopping, and pink crap, would have found a girl hard work
