I always have a look to see what reading book theyre on/ what the standard of their work is compared to my dcs.

am i sneaky / sad or is this just normal human curiosity?

I would never comment to anyone, especially my child.

Going through anyones private belongings, regardless of age, is disgusting.

mehgalegs · 20/10/2008 21:46

No, she came on earlier in the thread. She is a non peeker.

mehgalegs · 20/10/2008 21:47

Here we go again, the second wave of outrage.

JuxBackFromTheDead · 20/10/2008 21:51

I never thought of it. I don't care how good/bad dd's friends are academically; when they come round I'm really only interested in how they get on together and whether they're hungry/thirsty etc.

I would rather spend the minutes it would take reading my own book, thanks.

LynetteScavo · 20/10/2008 21:53

I wouldn't be bothered atall if anyone went though DS2's bookbag - would be a bit odd if something went missing - he only has reading books, school letters and birthday sweets. in it. Oh, and party invitations. Now what if DS2 came home with a party invitation, on the day he went to someones house, and the other child didn't receive an invitation, and the nosey mum stole the invitation, or got really jealous......... or maybe not.

DS1 has his own school bag, which he likes to keep rubbish favourite things in. I wouldn't be too bothered if another mum looked in it, I'd just be pleased he's actually been invited to someones house for tea.

Actually, the only person ever likely to invite him is a very good friend of mine - I I would expect her to look!

scaryfucker · 20/10/2008 21:53

disgusting?

oh dear, the emotion is rising again

I thought we were coming to, if not agreement, some sort of non-hysterical exchange of thoughts

LynetteScavo · 20/10/2008 21:54

Jux - it only takes 3 seconds.

Monkeyblue · 20/10/2008 21:55

Hold tight here we go again

youmaynotlikethis · 20/10/2008 21:55

scaryfucker · 20/10/2008 21:55

JOKE, PEOPLE !

< hands lynette a spare tin hat >

JuxBackFromTheDead · 20/10/2008 21:57

That's 3 seconds of reading a good book, then.

Monkeyblue · 20/10/2008 21:57

If it was at the end of the day
The parent would need a mask and big rubber gloves to open DCs lunch boxes

seeker · 20/10/2008 21:57

There is quite a leap from a parent looking to see what reading level little Gerturde is on, just to be sure that their own little Hepsibah is on track to saying to Hepsibah "Oh you are clever - you're on level7 and Gerturde is only on level 3" Of COURSE i wouldn't mention it to my child - I may be nosy and insecure but I'm not a complete loon!

cory · 20/10/2008 21:58

I wouldn't consider my own ds's book bag his private kingdom, no. Part of my job as a Mum to check that. But another's child...no, that really wasn't part of my remit. I think it's rude, like sneaking a peak at the post in somebody else's hallway, or reading their book over their shoulder on the bus. None of my business what goes on in other families.

scaryfucker · 20/10/2008 21:59

ditto seeker
