FSOT??
BBM look forward to that paper. I just looked at your profile - you're more qualified than I am! I could write about nappies through history...
(Actually...babies were stitched into their winter clothes in Tudor times. They must have stank by spring.)

BigBadMousey · 02/10/2008 22:54

Essie I nosed at your pofile earlier

I could do with you at my place this weekend - my FIL is visiting and DH and he tend to go off on deep involving conversation about medieval history etc etc... DH is very into all that - he made a proper chainmail replica of Edward The Black Prince's suit of armour when he was 18 - not sure it still fits him though

BigBadMousey · 02/10/2008 23:03

Hmmmm....BBM = 'interesting'......naahh no way (certainly not in the conventional sense). Hope you have a colic-free 24 hrs and some decent sleep.

Essie - I asked DH but he said no (or words to that effect). The helmet bit is on our front windowsill () we don't get many people passing by as we are down a farm track but the other day I caught some lost holidaymakers starring at it through the window .

We also have several swords and crossbows in the house - you should have seen the HVs face when she first visited (she's used to it now bless her)

staring not starring!

Essie3 · 03/10/2008 11:07

You or baby?

rusmum · 03/10/2008 11:15

baby lol

rusmum · 03/10/2008 11:16

is she too young to sleep train at 9 weeks???
Wont go down after feed unless in with me cuddled up ( and on boob more ofter than not). but think leving her to it is giving her belly ache (not latched properly).

rusmum · 03/10/2008 11:16

EVERYONE look above - what you think??

4andnotout · 03/10/2008 11:38

rusmum i have a bamboo applix nappy i can pop in post to you, its a size 2 but just doesn't suit dd3, if you want it email me your addy and i'll pop it in post tommorow. [email protected]
DD1 & DD3 were both sleeptrained at 6 weeks , dd2 was dp's first bio baby so he spoilt her and we realised his mistakes so were better at putting dd3 to bed. DD4 is due in 4 weeks and im aiming to bf this time which may affect the routine slightly but with 4 kids under 6 im going to have to have a good routine to cope!

AnnVan · 03/10/2008 11:41

Hello all! Rusmum sorry to hear about your DH.
My DP is off work today - we all have colds.

BigBadMousey · 03/10/2008 11:55

Rusmum - I think so but it depends what you mean by sleep training. I wouldn't personally use CC before 6mo min.

DS is 4mo and will not sleep unless I am right next to him. He sleeps in bed with me at night and in the evenings I hold him while I MN and he sleeps or feeds. If I get out of bed for the DDs (happens every night several times) he wakes up immediately and has to be fed back to sleep. He usually has to be fed to sleep - sometimes gentle rocking will do. None of this bothers me as he is my last DC and I know how quickly time flies

He has just been playing in his cot and got tired, started crying fussing etc. I picked him out cuddled and rocked him to sleep and when he went to sleep I put him in his cot. He usually wakes up straight away but this time he slept for 4 mins. When he woke up I went straight in and chatted to him, didn't pick him straight out as I want him to realise his cot is a safe place for him and he dos not need mummy to 'rescue' him. When he was wide awake I picked him out and he is now helping me type this! He is like DD2 and does not sleep at all during the day - he hasn't since he was 3wo - I think it is much easier to sleep train if the have daytime naps (you're more relaxed for a start). My plan is to get DS sleeping in his own cot without him evening noticing I was training him.

I always think you should do what you feel is best - IME doing something you don't feel right with rarely works. I think if you are relaxed and patient you get far better results.

BigBadMousey · 03/10/2008 11:58

Oh yes, DD2 would not be sleep trained - she has her own agenda bless her cottons. I sleep trained DD1 at 6mo but shew has a far more amiable character.

I'm going to get a lot of stick for being 'soft' on DS this weekend with FIL visiting

rusmum, I found a bambinex teddy (like a tots fluffle) at the bottom of my stash that I'll pop in with the wraps. I also have some good old fashioned terry squares that I can send you a couple of. Once you get the fold right for your DD then poo containment is generally good with them. The Jo-fold on the Nappy Lady site is good.

Another option for you might be easy peasy nappies Eco-bumbles. They are only three quid each and are one layer of terry and one of fleece with a stuffable pocket and as nippa fastening are a birth to potty option. You could use your prefolds as stuffing. I bought some from their ebay shop, but you can buy them direct and with free P&P if you spend over a fiver

BigBadMousey · 03/10/2008 13:30

Lacks - that is a great idea about the eco bumble.

Rusmum - you can stuff them with supermarket value microfibre cloths too - very cheap and absorbant.

OP posts:
Ceolas · 03/10/2008 13:50

Eco Bumbles - Easy Peasy could clean up on all those who have forked out on btp prefold sets and hated them!

Not having great success with the Ella's House BBM. Do you know how the newer design differs? Are there more layers or is it just that the inner layers fold out?

lollipopmother · 03/10/2008 14:28

Rusmum - Sorry to hear about your DH, what a horrible thing to happen, especially when you've also got a baby to contend with, and I feel for you on the colic as well, sounds like you, me and Sunflower should all join a support group!

As it happens, Elizabeth was a lot better last night, she screamed from 7pm, but she was finished by 8.30 and then had some brilliant 'daddy' time too, which is nice because my DP gets in just after she starts screaming, so for the last week he hasn't had much fun, except for the last two evenings where he's had some brilliant non screaming hours and he's really enjoyed it.

I tried on my original Little Kiwi today, it fits I think, but the small airflow wrap is still totally massive, doesn't touch around the legs or the stomach.

Can anyone tell me, when I do finally get a wrap that fits, should the wrap be put onto her stomach, or should the nappy poke out the top?

I've tried on three nappies now, each time Elizabeth has managed to wee in them, even though they've only been on her a matter of minutes! I've tried explaining that i'm the one trying them out, not her, but it doesn't seem to be hitting home!

lollipopmother · 03/10/2008 14:31

Matnan - No, she was sick in the afternoon the first time, and then 10pm the next. The only thing that was similar was that she'd been fed beforehand, first time about 30min maybe, and the other time she was fed about 45mins before I think.
