Oh, and I had a tots rainbow fleece wrap, but it isn't great for overnight (IME anyway)as it's single layer fleece with only a reinforced double section down the middle. It would be good for very active babies in the day though. Best for overnight is the tots red wrap.

Daisy - I souldn't worry too much about Mothercare - they olny sell reusables online. I know most sellersare online, but mums considereing cloth tend to come on site like this to find out best to go for etc.

BigBadMousey · 29/08/2008 10:49

Hello Lacks (new FB buddy) .

Mothercare have been doing a wider range of cloth for a few months now. Thing is I doubt they will be able to offer the service a local seller can and they'll never be able to keep up with the changing trends or offer anything more than a few best selling nappies. If we keep it a secret then hopefully very few people will realise they are selling them .

The one with the striking eyes (DD1) is in the bad books this morning after distributing chockie Wheetos all over the house while I was in the shower - 'tis very crunchy underfoot in our house atm

BBM, saw your message after I posted mine and felt glad to see I'm starting to understand this "new world"... wish shops stocked more reusables, can't understand why mothercare can't stock at least trial packs in store, as they sell quite a few types online , at least people would have an idea of what they actually look like... it's so much easier when you can see/touch something...

I had the rainbow wrap too for DS1, and I agree with you, really cute (got some pretty pics of him wearing it..), but seemed very bulky and stiff - the one in the link looked a better system, but didn't really want to spend all that money (got two new nappies and an airflow wrap for less on e-bay!)!! maybe I'll try making one...

LackaDAISYcal · 29/08/2008 11:18

good points AnnVan and BBM......it's difficult enough finding an assistant in there with the brains/training to talk pushchairs with you, let alone the pros and cons of different nappy systems. If they wanted to stock them instore they would actually need to train people to a decent level

sunflower, that's where nappy advisors come in

lollipopmother · 29/08/2008 11:26

I don't know whether this is a good deal or not but anyone thinking of getting some Totsbots Fluffles - there is a sale on here, reduced from £9 to £6.75 or £7.25, and it's free postage.

AnnVan · 29/08/2008 11:43

Ladies, don't talk to me about mothercare am very very with them at the mo. Super pee'd off. Asshole waker bastard people that they are.

Anyway, already had this rant on my ante-natal thread. But if Mothercare don't get their asses into gear I'll have to put baby to bed in a drawer or something because baby will arrive before the sodding moses basket.

AnnVan · 29/08/2008 11:44

Oh mothercare do stock a trial pack of tots bots instore but that's it apart from terry squares.

sunflower78 · 29/08/2008 11:52

LDC - you're right, was just too lazy and grumpy to look for and call someone , not in the best of moods for the last 5 wks (and getting worse, wish this baby hurries up). But luckily I found this site and got great advice...

HolidaysQueen · 29/08/2008 11:52

Mothercare prices on Bumgenius aren't any better than other nappy places, so I assume they aren't much better on others. I use twinkleontheweb.co.uk because they stock everything and Miranda has been fabulously helpful whenever I have spoken to her.

On wipe solution, I just use cold water as I'm too lazy to do anything else I use an old dressing gown that I cut up - can heartily recommend terry as it sort of scoops up bf poo rather than just smearing it around like fleece sometimes does.

Any tips on removing poo stains when the sun isn't shining? My poor DS is going to suffer stained nappies and wipes all winter unless I find a solution. I'm personally not too fussed but would hate grandparents to think I'm slovenly...

LackaDAISYcal · 29/08/2008 12:31

HQ...the stains will come out in UV ,light, so the sun doesn't actually need to be shining; it's just quicker when it does . Hang them out even when it's dull and they will bleach out eventually, or even on the window sill when it's raining. I hang mine on the clothes horse if front of the patio windows, and stretch and peg them to get in all the creases.

MatNanPlus · 29/08/2008 12:32

I soak in a vanish and napisan solution 24 hrs is usually enough theo 36 has been known when i forgot

MatNanPlus · 29/08/2008 12:33

10 litres water
1 scoop vanish white tub
100ml napisan liquid

LackaDAISYcal · 29/08/2008 12:34

durr....meant to link these baby vest extenders. I've been looking for some for ages and now winter is coming in again they will come in handy for extending the life of a vest over a fluffy bum

MatNanPlus · 29/08/2008 12:34

Bio powder also good if not got 1 of the above

MatNanPlus · 29/08/2008 12:35

Daisy you can put 2 or 3 together to add more room

MatNanPlus · 29/08/2008 12:36

I use a squirt of baby bath/gel and water and store wipes or cw pads in open tub

LackaDAISYcal · 29/08/2008 12:42

thanks for the tip MNP

thumbwitch · 29/08/2008 12:59

those baby vest extenders look great but they are a wee bit costly for what they are! i can buy 3 new vests for that!

It does irritate me slightly that the cost of being environment/eco/babybotty friendly is so high, no wonder it's still small scale.

LDC - how's the nappy rash?

LackaDAISYcal · 29/08/2008 13:17

still there thumbwitch . It's definately linked to her teething, as she has broken out elsewhere, but the Morrison's own brand dispos definately made it worse . I've been putting hydrocortisone on it for a couple of days and using water with a drop of lavender oil in for wipes and it's getting better slowly. I just wish I could clear it and then keep it clear. fingers crossed virgil's bottom is a little more robust.

That's a good point about the vest extenders. I suppose they are worth it if you are buying Cut4Cloth or organic cotton vests. I thought they would be good for two piece sets with say dungarees and a matching vest top to go with it, as they always seem to outgrow the vest before the dungarees.

Can't wait for virgil to arrive; he will be mostly living in dungarees as they are so cute on babies

AnnVan · 29/08/2008 13:58

*Daisy I agree with you dungarees are so cute on babies. I said I wanted to get some and DP was at that?!

lollipopmother · 29/08/2008 14:07

Sunflower - I think you said you are due on Wed? I'm due on Thurs and the wait is killing me!

I went on that blog board that was linked and some of the nappies on there are calling out for me to buy them, but I just can't at the moment, God I hope my baby comes soon so I can get involved in some bargains!

Is it possible for someone to tell me the general asking price for nappies, because when I look I never really know whether it's a good deal or not? I'd be looking at:

Ella's House - Bumhuggers
Motherease - Sandy's
Motherease - Airflow wrap
Totsbots - Fluffle
Kiwi - Quick Flip

MrsJamin · 29/08/2008 14:08

I have a set of baby vest extenders, useful to go over DS's huge night nappy. You only need one set forever though as they'll always fit whatever vests you have (apart from gap ones, annoyingly).

Dungarees are fab for cloth bums as I like the fact DS doesn't have anything else pinching in at his waist, I love them with long-sleeved vests as nappy changes are super-easy too.

lollipopmother · 29/08/2008 14:08

Those are for new nappies by the way, I wasn't clear in my original post.

BigBadMousey · 29/08/2008 14:33

Lollipop www.twinkleontheweb.co.uk/acatalog/ will give you a good general idea of the new prices for those.

The fluffles you linked to earlier were a good price btw

You can find certain nappies cheaper but you have to have some luck with your timing. I got 3 new cotton Sandy's for £8 from oakbyname on ebay (she has some weird nappies on there - do not bid unless you are certain you know what the nappy is!) - she had a whole batch of them. I wanted unbleached but these were white - at that price I wasn't complaining!

It is worth keeping an eye on ebay every few days - people over-buy then sell their surplus on there (wraps especially) and often the ebay shops have sales / clearance.

Sandy's are excellent btw - the bamboo is wonderful (I'm sure I've put that on here already) - well worth the extra £ if you can cope with the extra drying time
