wastingmyeducation - I got mine from Peachychecks on ebay but I wouldn't recommend them - they frayed really badly straight away.

Babeco do some which are better I believe. Nappyzone has them here. I like them and they are definitely thinner fitting (take a while to dry though)

Essie3 · 28/08/2008 11:44

Ooh, something to add!
Daisy (if I may call you that ) can I plug a local company? I've got their Cheeky Cherub balm and it's calmed my DS's sore patches, and helped with his cradle cap. Gwdihw
I know I could just use plain old olive oil on his cradle cap, but they push these products locally, and oh, they smell so lush! It's all natural and very similar to what Thumbwitch got from her herbalist. Also, I've been to see a medical herbalist for myself in London, and she's superb, real results.

Carting stuff around - well, I use a nappy bag but might have to reconsider because I now have poo on it after the Chatsworth Poo Incident(c) last weekend. For the dirty nappies, I have a strange bin thing from IKEA which I keep in the car; it can go under the shower to be totally rinsed clean.

MatNanPlus · 28/08/2008 11:52

Ah Essie3 their box of tricks looks lush i have to say.

Waitrose Bottom Butter is on offer!! It is lovely

AnnVan · 28/08/2008 11:56

BBM - my sister got her stash for her DD from Peachycheeks. I just used a local agent. I didn't put my bamboos on the radiator (thanks ladies) just left them on the line overnight. I'd heard bamboo takes ages to dry but boy! really glad I bought the Teddies as well. They really did dry quickly. Brought themin bone dry yesterday afternoon. The boosters had dried as well. But the bamboo ones were still wet around the elastic. We don't have a dryer, so line drying it is. Where can I get those airers that clip onto radiators. After all I've been lucky enough to have good weather yesterday, but when Baby's here and I'm using the nappies, it's likely to be constant bad weather so will have to dry inside. Oops long post

mamadiva · 28/08/2008 11:59

Hi there I haven't read through the whole thread so I hope I'm not interupting anything.

I don't use reusable nappies at the moment but would like to start, my DS turned 2 in June but doesn't seem to have an interest in potty training yet and I don't want to force him so to save a bit of money I wanted to buy some second hand ones but I don't ahve a clue where to start!

I started a thread here any replies would be greatly appreciated

Funny, Mamadiva, just read your thread before coming on here.
I only have 1 DS, 10 weeks, so not in a situation to advise really. But go for second hand; and try e-bay for new but cheaper nappies. Oh, and also Twinkle - discontinued ones can be good.
Hahaha, not in a situation to advise! But one final one: I've been using Modern Baby old style nappies, and they have a toddler nappy reduced on their website.
toddler nappy
If you bought 10, it would be £35 or so, and then wraps are £5.60. Depends how big your son is though.

MatNan I'm totally tempted by the box of tricks. They're really nice products to use. But v. annoyed about your link to baby bottom butter - I went to Waitrose 2 weeks ago and bought bubble bath and baby shampoo - would have saved £1! In Waitrose, £1 matters!! Yummy products, and I was suggesting the bbb to my SIL who has sensitive skin - it's all natural and I reckon might be safe. Dad has a sensitive scalp and uses baby shampoo - but used to decant it into a more macho bottle for showers at work!! (Head&Shoulders, FYI!)

Essie3 · 28/08/2008 12:24

How bizarre! X-posted and gave the answer to one of the posts.

The old style nappies are very good - I've had great results with them. thread (Changing to the new style because they offered me a special price, which didn't really materialize...see above.) I just hope the new ones are as good - or better. They're bamboo, so I'm waiting on tenterhooks for a reply to AnnVan's question on driers!!

Knickers - speaking as the leading expert on modern baby nappies , I can tell you that they work like this:
Size 1 nappies, up to 20lb
Size 2 nappies, up to 40lb
Wraps: XS (also called newborn), S, M, L, XL.
You use different wraps: so with size 1 nappy, XS or S wrap, to get more use. (Not entirely sure how that works.) Then M + L with Size 2.

But they also do a size 3, which they never sold as part of the birth to potty pack, or the value packs, for toddlers 40lb+. Presumably with an XL wrap?

You know if you order them at the sale price, you can also put the mumsnet code in and get 10% off - I tried that when I was going to buy the size 2 set, and it worked then. Code is MNet08. So really good value for you Mamadiva

Essie3 · 28/08/2008 12:25

BUT, just tried the wrap and they've 'registered' the wrong price - it comes up in your basket at full price not 3.58.

MatNanPlus · 28/08/2008 12:28

Ah bum you have to buy wraps to, call me picky but whatis th epoint of a pretty coloured nappy if it is inside a wrap?

Just don't get it, plus double bulk at the waist, liking my prefolds more and more as depending on the fold can contain bf runs and be slim looking.

Yess Essie3 noticed the wrap pricing error.

at WBB tho i lurve their solid coconut massage stuff.

TY KOMH

Essie3 · 28/08/2008 12:59

Yeah, I wonder about the point of having pretty nappies with wraps. I have all sorts of angst because I have plenty of nappies in all colours (bar pink), but only 5 wraps so I often have to have a raspberry nappy with a green wrap etc.

In my previous life I was an academic. And look at what worries me now - non-matching nappies and wraps...

MatNanPlus · 28/08/2008 13:22

LOL Essie3 tho we have Bambino Mio with 6 white and 2 patterned wraps and i match her dresses to the patterned ones

AnnVan · 28/08/2008 14:07

Well, some of my nappies are pretty colours, but I don't care that they're going to go under a wrap! I know they're there and really cute so that's all that matters. reallly want to get some funky wraps later though. Will wait till baby arrives before I buy any more nappy stuff though I think.

Essie3 · 28/08/2008 15:19

Hooray, my nappies have arrived and they're terribly cute!

Question for LackaDAISYcal though: with the pop in, is the baby wet? As in, will his skin be wet? I'm used to the old style MB, which have a fleece booster sewn in, and the fleece is dry on top, but wet under (IYKWIM). So he's not got a soaking wet nappy next to his skin. Will the pop-in do something similar?

And to anyone - is there any harm in having a wet nappy next to the skin? I mean, not for hours, just between changes?

MatNanPlus · 28/08/2008 15:35

hasn't done current baby any harm as she is in cotton prefolds with just the paper liner for solids when they are solid that is

thumbwitch · 28/08/2008 15:35

Hi Essie3 - lol at your previous post!
My home-made nappies do have the distinct disadvantage of being generally wet once made wet and DS doesn't really suffer from it; he rarely gets nappy rash unless he's in a wet nappy for more than 4hours (and in a car seat); or from some of his poos that are obviously more acidic than others! but he has slept through the night and woken in a wet nappy and it hasn't woken him during the night so he's been wearing it for ~12 hours and not got nappy rash from it. Obviously, not ideal but HTH!

mamadiva · 28/08/2008 15:44

Does anyone use Bambinex bamboo nappies? Are they good and where can I get them cheapish? I have about £50 but hoping that'll ge me something.

Also does anyone know how yu find out about the grant you can get from some councils to help towards the cost of real; nappies and what age does your child have to e? Sorry for all the questions LOL

AnnVan · 28/08/2008 15:48

Mamadiva - I have the bambinex bamboo nappies, but haven't used them yet! however, you may want to bear in mind that bamboo takes a LONG time to dry. Bambinex ones are very slim though, so prbably dry quicker than other makes. I got a discount from my local council. Try a website called Nappyfinder, that should list if your council has an incentive scheme, and give contact details if it does. You'll also find details of local retailers, nappy agents etc on there! HTH.

LackaDAISYcal · 28/08/2008 16:18

mamadiva, check out ebay

I am selling some that I was testing , but they are size 2 popper ones and involved some folding down of the front to get a good fit on my DD who is at the smaller end of the weight range. The poppers still worked though, just with a tongue of nappy folded over them.

BigBadMousey · 28/08/2008 16:23

lacks - ...(I was on facebook and bored)

Just to clarify - I bought my first ever lot of nappies from Peachy Cheeks (Fluffles btp set) and they were excellent. One had escaped in the post but after quick email to peachycheeks I had a replacement

LackaDAISYcal · 28/08/2008 16:30

Essie, thanks for the tip on the cheeky cherub stuff. I'm going to order some

And to your pop-in question. Her bum was damp, but not outright wet, as the wet bamboo is next to her skin. I just used a fleece liner with them though to give the dry to the touch effect .

mamadiva, just noticed that your DS is 2. The size 2 poppers would probably be OK for you then if you are interested. I have five of them, in pistaschio colour.
