You can always tell some women are childless by the fact that they....

...get in the way of you when you are in the supermarket dragging around a pram, trolley and fiddly child and then they sneer down at you with their basket full of organic lettuce, baguettes and mini-tampons while your trolley is loaded with nappies, a giant pot of Sudocrem and enough chocolate bars to re-sink the Titanic.

You then have to manoever around them while they continue said sneering.

God you can tell what sort of evening I have had, can't you? And I am embarrassed to admit that I used to be one of those women. I apologise to all you mums out there unreservedly.

Now for chocolate bars and MN......

Bizarre thread - no problems with op at all, though can see how it could spark a discussion with different viewpoints. I hope some apologies were made to the OP. I think she is owed them.

kikid · 25/08/2008 11:14

There is an us & them theme on mn, they do stick together & spoil threads.. Shame

Rachael17 · 25/08/2008 14:00

you lot are so lucky you only get the childless women sneering at you. when i go out with ds (who is 5 soon) feels like the whole world is sneering even some mums!
problem is im just turned 23 with a young child. i also still only look 18 and ds looks like a 6yr old.
i get sneers from old women young women and even teenagers. heaven forbid i buy chocolate, crisps or other treats when shopping as i get the most dirty looks!
makes me want to scream at everyone thats sneering that i got pregnant not because im stupid i did absolutely everthing right but still got pregnant.
was worse when ds was a baby, would be struggling onto the bus with pram, baby, bags, shopping etc and no one would help, even overheard one woman about mid 30's, def childless, say to her friend that i was what was wrong with society.
anyway rant over

Rachael I don't know where you live, but thats awful. I can't imagine why anyone would sneer at a young mum with a young child.

I'm at the other end of the spectrum, and sometimes imagine people giving me weird looks because I'm so ancient and the dds so young

PookiePodgeandTubs · 25/08/2008 15:31

That's a sad post Rachael. I don't know if it helps at all, but don't feel persecuted because some people just are very judgemental, to everybody. Maybe they are lucky and have never experienced a fall from 'grace', or they have a low emotional intelligence. But if you had been 30 and married they'd be bitching that your maternity clothes showed off your bump! YOU can not win!!

I had years on you when I had my first child, but because I wasn't married, a 'friend' who'd been having IVF said it wasn't 'fair' that I was having a child. I felt so judged. It upset me at the time. NOw I know she had a lot of anger (at life) and it had nowhere to go.

There are some posts on MN that almost upset me. So don't let the odd dodgy thread scare you away. Preconceptions about people on benefits and so on.

But nobody knows your life. So long as you know you've made the right decisions and have nothing to regret, then you'll be comfortable in your own skin! And people who judge other people are NOT comfortable in their own skin.

Janni · 25/08/2008 18:04

Rachael and Elibean - classic examples of how a mother's place is in the wrong. Doesn't matter what we do or who we are, we'l' be getting something wrong

cruisemum1 · 25/08/2008 18:26

cannot be arsed to read all posts as Aitch and her shitty attitude have pissed me off. I hope by not reading everything that i have missed her apologising for being sucha killjoy

goingslowlymad · 25/08/2008 18:27

Rachael, I was pregnant at 13 and had my son when I had just turned 14. He is now 15 and I am 29, and I have to be honest, I don't think I have ever noticed someone in public sneering or looking down on me.

We spent many hours at the library / swimming / on buses and the worst comment I ever heard was two old ladies saying how nice I was taking my brother out to give my mum some peace ;) I was in my school uniform so I let them off and didn't correct them.

I should also point out that my son's behaviour was shocking and almost out of control on many occassions. Maybe my attention was so focused on him that I didn't notice other people judging me?

Aitch · 25/08/2008 18:30

wtf cruisemum? why post then, other than to be nasty to me? nice behaviour, really, you must be very proud.

FlightAttendent · 25/08/2008 18:35

Cruisemum why are you having a pop at Aitch - hang on, don't tell us. Don't want to hear it.
Aitch ignore, not your problem

Elibean · 25/08/2008 19:06

Aitch, don't worry, I've noticed loads of weird and angsty reactions all over MN recently - suspect its somthing to do with women going slowly mad as the holidays go on too long

lilymolly · 25/08/2008 19:27

fucking hell cant even be arsed to read after about the 4th page.

Can not believe this shite on mn- OP as far as I can see, started a thread, very tongue in cheek, a humerous thread if you like about the differences between women with children and those who havent.

Their was a similar thread a few weeks ago I am sure- "how do you know when you are mother" something like that anyway.
It was a humerous look at life as a mum.

HOW can anyone turn this around

Really some people have total chips on their shoulders and think everyone is attacking someone when they are not.
Unbelievable and very sad

Wilkiepedia · 25/08/2008 19:32

I can't believe this thread. MN is such a nasty horrible place at times where people can't be 'light-hearted' unless they are in the 'inner circle' (and yes there is a f*cking inner-circle).

OP - ignore the tits on here and you will find plenty of lovely friendly people who will have a giggle with you.

Sorry - haven't read whole thread as it was making me cross!!

Aitch · 25/08/2008 19:40

aye, some people do think they're being attacked when they aren't. see OP's second post.

so... what's with the new trend of not actually reading threads but denouncing people on them? i like it. lilymolly, i haven't actually read your post but you clearly have a chip on your shoulder a mile wide and can't see that posting a sneery post about other women sneering is ironic in the extreme. it was very different from the thread the other week, very different indeed.
= and guess what, not everyone on the thread found the OP funny, a lot of them found the language loaded and felt that the OP was actually a bit paranoid. as you'd know, if you'd read it.

Aitch · 25/08/2008 19:41

oh good, another person who hasn't read the thread... ffs.

Wilkiepedia · 25/08/2008 19:44

Oh Aitch - every thread you are on you seem to take some ishoo with it

I actually read down about half the messages so I did manage to get the 'gist' of the thread thanks v muc

Oh balls, I'm off to find some fun threads (although you'll prob turn up on them taking offence all over the place)

Aitch · 25/08/2008 19:51

oh fgs... righto, having an opinion is having an ishoo is it? great fun, this brave new MN world, isn't it? really stretches the mind. i despair, i really do.

FlightAttendent · 25/08/2008 19:52

I like you dear.

Put your feet up.

Aitch · 25/08/2008 19:53

although... it now occurs to me that maybe all you lot who think that the general public is constantly sneering at you might be onto something after all..?

expatinscotland · 25/08/2008 19:53

I may as well start buying Take a Break or Chat for reading some of the comments on here.

FFS.

YAWN.

Aitch · 25/08/2008 19:55

why thanks, FA. i'm on the tangerines and ginger biscuits this evening, delicious. i got them in a supermarket and No-One Cared. amazing, huh?

expatinscotland · 25/08/2008 19:57

I went into a shop with two wee ones and a preggo bump and no one cared!

I mean, I could have probably bought a bottle of whisky and they'd have just handed it over without so much as a sneer.

Bloody Scotland!

Aitch · 25/08/2008 19:59

just one dd and one bump here... it's like they don't know i exist.

expatinscotland · 25/08/2008 20:01

Dammit, I was hoping to get a 'light-hearted' bit of entertainment out of it all, too.

Next time I'll just take them to the pet store and watch the hamster run round on its wheel.

lilymolly · 25/08/2008 20:04

Aitch

what makes you think that I was talking about you?
