Is a pamper party at seven too young?

Hi everyone,

I'd like a bit of a sense check please.

My soon to be 7 year old daughter loves make up, clothes, nail varnish - you get the picture. Her birthday is coming up and I found a company that offers pamper parties including chocolate face mask making, mini mani and pedicure and a little catwalk in the end. It would be in our home, so no salon or anything.

I'm after honest opinions - is this too early? Some of the girls would obviously still be 6 years old. I know my daughter would love this but I'm happy to wait a couple of years if you think some parents may not agree with it at this age.

If that's what she likes and wants, go for it.

You're only young once!

My niece had a pamper party (7th birthday) and they knew a hairdresser who came to their house to straighten, curl or french plait the girls hair. They loved it!

Mileage varies on this, personally I wouldn’t have allowed my DD to attend this kind of party at 7.

Lentilcakes · 16/09/2026 16:39

My DD was 10 before she went to anything like this,.

I think it’s fine

seahorsessky · 16/09/2026 16:41

No, I wouldn't do a party like this.

Justploddingonandon · 16/09/2026 16:43

My DD went to one of these at 8, they styled her hair, sprayed it with glitter spray (this bit was optional) and did her nails with normal nail varnish. There were some crafts set up while they waited their turn. No makeup or anything else that was likely to cause a reaction on her sensitive skin.

SeptemberRains · 16/09/2026 16:45

I wouldn’t have allowed my girls to go.

Hoppinggreen · 16/09/2026 16:48

DD was invited to on when she was 7
I was not happy and silently judged, however as if was a close friend I let her go
Didn't do any harm I suppose but I didn't like it

TY78910 · 16/09/2026 17:02

My DD was invited to one at 4 and one at 5. If she would like one, go for it.

Thinkofnewthings · 16/09/2026 17:07

I would have been very unhappy for my DC go to this. But I suppose they could go if they really wanted, but I wouldn’t like it. I’m afraid I would judge the parents a bit. I’d be shocked by a child that age actually being keen on makeup and nail varnish. Even at age 10, I wouldn’t be very happy.

SunshineAndFizz · 16/09/2026 17:09

My 6 year old is having one for her 7th birthday this month, she’ll love it.

Don’t over think it, if she doesn’t would like it, go for it!

MyCatIsAnAeroplane · 16/09/2026 17:10

I would have judged, found a good reason for my daughter not to go, and felt a bit sad about that kind of early socialisation of girls.

Bonden · 16/09/2026 17:11

She needs more hobbies

Violetparis · 16/09/2026 17:11

I think it's far too young and would think the parents were stupid.

Hatty65 · 16/09/2026 17:16

No, I wouldn't have taken my 6/7 year old and they wouldn't have wanted to go. They were not interested in make up, clothes and doing their nails at this age, thank God.

I don't think it's a great idea for little girls to think being pretty is expected or desirable.

MsSquiz · 16/09/2026 17:25

DD1 went to her first pamper party at 6, DD2 was 3 and it was a party for a girl in her nursery class turning 4.

they had their nails painted in their chosen colour, a foot spa, their hair done in a chosen style with glitter and then had a disco and party food upstairs.
one of the girls at the nursery party isn’t a “pink girlie” girl so she chose green nail varnish and opted out of the glitter, no one batted an eyelid.

I think it’s fine at any age

Peclet · 16/09/2026 17:33

I don’t love the idea and would be judging you.
O think it is the catwalk element that makes me most 🤢

mindutopia · 16/09/2026 17:48

I think it depends on the context. Dd did something like this for her 8th, maybe 9th birthday, but it wasn’t all glitter and make up. They painted their nails and I gave them a nail varnish to take home in their party bags, I gave them all lavender face masks (like the garnier ones you get from Boots) and had them lay around on the floor ‘relaxing’ for 10 minutes. Then they made pizzas and watched a film. It was a big hit. Dd is not a girly girl. She’s more sports and adventure. But it was a nice departure from venue based parties which a lot of them still had at that age.

CurlewKate · 16/09/2026 17:51

Personally? Absolutely not. We really don’t want to be training girls into that sort of “femaleness” so early. I would obviously have let my daughter go through gritted teeth, but would have made sure her party was swimming or bowling or something.

Jdonwh · 16/09/2026 17:52

awful

tinyspiny · 16/09/2026 17:55

I wouldn’t have allowed mine to go to this type of thing at that age , they are children not mini teens / adults .

Jdonwh · 16/09/2026 17:56

If you have to do something like this, change the focus from 'looks' to 'wellness' maybe. So therefore you could do face mask, hand massage with nice smelling (safe) oil, teach them how to do hand massage on each other, relaxation zone (fake candles, fairy lights, cushions), etc

Minasama · 16/09/2026 17:58

I’d say it’s too young and some children would find it quite boring. Maybe you could do normal games but include nail painting as one activity?

There’s plenty of time for them to enjoy this stuff as teens?

I noticed some people saying they would judge the parents so I’ll be honest, so would I. I think it’s awful to be teaching kids that age to be that shallow and looks-obsessed, it sits really badly with me and seems tacky. Give them something productive and fun to do.

MeNotYouJustMe · 16/09/2026 17:58

The mani and pedi are a bit meh but the catwalk is a hideous idea! Much too young 😬

Dayglojuice · 16/09/2026 18:01

DD and her friends used to play loo roll fashion show at that age (get lots of loo rolls and make a costume, mainly they looked like badly wrapped mummies 😂)

I wouldn’t be thrilled about face packs and polish on young skin. Could they do more wellness stuff eg dance class, making different juices and poke bowls, yoga/chillout?
