How do I talk about it to my children ?

I am a 48-year-old man with a classic style (every day in shirt, dress pants, tassel loafers) and my wife wants my both ears to be pierced with real diamonds set on yellow gold (identical to those worn by women).I have two children: a son (11) and a daughter (13). They will be very surprised to see me with both ears pierced by real diamonds. Should I talk to them about it before? How would you react if your classic-style father pierced both of his ears with real women’s diamonds? Thank you for your advice. Michael.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Well just use words. It doesn’t seem a very contentious issue. I suppose you could tell them you are having a midlife crisis if you want.

I can’t see how wearing earrings is a fetish.

I know loads of men who wear earrings.

The wife obviously has a thing for it but I’m not sure she’s got a fetish rather than just a preference.

Not the wife, the OP, being forced to wear something that codes as ‘feminine’.

Did you actually just say you think your 11 & 13 year old children might think you are gay for having your ears pierced?

Have you been locked in a darkened room for the past 20 years?

Do you want your ears pierced and blingy studs?

These threads are getting weirder by the day

If you explain that they are in fact, real diamonds, I think they will be relieved that they aren’t dealing with a cubic zirconia situation. That would be very distressing.

🤣🤣🤣

Midlife crisis?

Men’s diamonds are likely to be cheaper than women’s too.

Sadly I think you're right, the pink tax is alive and well in the matching earrings sector

Funniest post ever!!

Fatiguedwithlife · 21/03/2026 13:57

How absolutely batshit bonkers.
Wouldn’t you just say, at the breakfast table, “ hey kids I’m thinking about getting my ears pierced, both of them, mum says it’ll look hot. What do you reckon?”
They will likely laugh at you or plead that you don’t. Or not give a shit as they’re teens.
maybe ask them rather than the internet? How weird

Fatiguedwithlife · 21/03/2026 13:59

Beware though, if you use women’s diamonds your willy may drop off. It has happened in the past. Check you get the right sex diamonds from a reputable jewellers

Jessbow · 21/03/2026 14:32

Did she mention royalty? Prince Albert?

TinyMouseTheatre · 21/03/2026 15:28

Perhaps explain to your wife that you don’t want to change your classic style and are worried that even though you’ve never shown the slightest hint of being anything other than heterosexual, you believe that if the DC see you wearing real diamonds, like the ladies wear, they will automatically assume you are now pansexual.

Therefore, you have decided to have the piercings and will have the diamonds as she wishes but you’re having your nipples pierced instead of your ears.

If she protests you could suggest a nice diamond encrusted Prince Albert instead?

PeatandDieselfan · 21/03/2026 21:45

@TinyMouseTheatre bonus points for getting "encrusted" and "Prince Albert" into the same sentence!

Dozeyduck · 21/03/2026 23:12

What have you decided to do about this conundrum OP?

YouHaveAnArse · 23/03/2026 18:07

You don't have a "classic style" for a 48 year old, you have a very dated one. Dress pants? Loafers? Just get a Primark band tee and some sambas like every other Xennial dad.

And nobody will give a fuck about you having pierced ears unless you get massive tunnels or something.

YouHaveAnArse · 23/03/2026 18:09

loislovesstewie · 21/03/2026 09:33

Is this part of some other transition? Seems odd to be worried if it's not.

If he's transitioning then he's going to have to learn about fashion really quickly, unless s/he aims to appear like a female Ken Barlow.

MNLurker1345 · 23/03/2026 18:19

The rest of your outfits are more concerning that the earrings.

if I told my DH to pierce his ears he’d tell me to fuck off.

Agree on both points. OP dresses like a bit of a bellend. The earrings should complete the look.

OrcaSwimmingInATeaPot · 25/03/2026 23:30

Are they aware that you are a classic style father?

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/03/2026 23:39

So did you get both ears done @Michael48with real diamonds set in yellow gold - 9c or 18c 😂
