She looks disgusted

I would think of all the lovely slings I could buy for that amount. But I have a sling habit. Perhaps she has a pram one.

i would admire it. i wouldn't even think about how much they cost. they are expensive new but you can pick them up quite cheaply second hand.

1dilemma · 17/07/2008 01:28

saw one today although I don't think it was £800, was quite startled (as was the rest of the bus) by the words coming out of her mouth when the driver wouldn't let her and her 2 friends join the 2 of us allready there. She seemed to think since she only wanted to o 2 stops he should let them on, I resisted the temptation to say walk then but one little old lady just blurted out 'that's not very nice'
I actually thought she was going to spit in the drivers face [yuk] she didn't

Quote: 'wouldn;t go through my front door (and therefore not through many shop doors either), weighs a ton, would never fit in the car however you took it apart, is hard to steer and poor on rough or muddy ground I thought again.

'

It fits through my bog-standard width double-glazed front door. The pram's 22" (55cm) wide.

Goes through all shop doors so far.

Weighs 10kg, that's as light as a medium-priced buggy.

The carrycot detaches from the chassis and the chassis folds down, though the wheels don't pop off, it's still smaller than a double buggy.

It's been bounced over ploughed fields at a steam rally..great suspension! Not easy, you have to take baby out first, ideally!

It's actually shorter than my Jane Powertwin: 45.5" long. I'm taking it on the bus tomorrow (modern lowliner 'buggy friendly' type), I'll update next few days whether it fits in that buggy space (wheelchair space)and how well or not in manoeveres into position (some of those spaces have a vertical bar in the way and narrower aisles).

I've just moved from Todmorden in West Yorks which is a bit of a nearby-Hebden Bridge hippy overspill town (like Heb it's full of Londoners ) and only 1 Silver Cross in Tod, owned by onesuch of them types).
Now in a Northamptonshire village, I'm the only one with a Silver Cross, but I'm thinking these are gonna have a popularity resurgance since some pesky 'Slebs have been out and about with them in LA...

I recommend it. I feel like a proper old-fashioned mum who's put baby's comfort before practicality and/or vanity. If I saw someone else with one though, as long as she wasn't a blatant Mother Earth Hippy or SnootyMiddleAgedBoden showing off her money I'd probably think the mum liked to be a bit kooky, perhaps Young Fogey, .... I don't know, my reasons are definately Young Fogey, definately not mainstream buggybuyer (also had Micralite, Land Rover atp, Nipper 360...none of them exactly trendy, popular or attractive!) but I also like the tech spec such as outstanding suspension, robustness of build quality (them wheels ain't fell off for 40 years, ain't gonna any time soon either!), all metal parts engineered and the idea that it might just protect bub better in the event it glances off a car crossing a busy road (I don't want to generate too much imagery there).

They also aren't that dear, nevermind this £800 quote, that's brand new, you can buy immaculate ones for between £50 - £150 on eBay.

cheesesarnie · 22/09/2009 23:49

id probably think it was nice but not alot else.money, place etc wouldnt enter my head.

Astrid28 · 22/09/2009 23:55

I'd think the same as I thought seeing someone with one the other day (don't know what it cost though) but I thought 'what an ugly pram!!'

Give me a modern 3 wheeler, or a trusty Maclaren any day!

Reesie · 23/09/2009 07:36

£800 for a pram. That is a ridiculous amount of money. Prams in my experince (big babies!) only last about 3 months. She must have a very big hall to park it in!

glasgowlass · 23/09/2009 07:56

I have a SC sleepover deluxe and I love it! My DS is so comfy in it and I always get stopped by old women cooing over him. I also have a SC pop for going into city centre.
My parents bought the pram, they have bought all their GC's prams, kinda a tradition in my family.

If I knew it cost £800 I'd think
what a waste of money /more money than sense

MmeLindt · 23/09/2009 08:01

This is a really old thread

HecatesTwopenceworth · 23/09/2009 08:04

Oh well, never mind, eh?

I wouldn't have a clue whether a pram cost a thousand pounds or a tenner from a car boot sale and I'd care even less, tbh. The only people who could tell how much these things cost, or identify brands etc!! are the ones who also have a bit of a pushchair fetish themselves , and I don't think they make up a lot of the population.

I'd think "why has that pram got an f'ing name label and price tag on it?"

as that's the only way I'd know it was an £800 pram.

I would have loved a big old coach built pram, I think they look lovely. Very impractical, though, but a woman I know in Devon has got one. She is constantly stopped by old women who coo and chat. I think it's nice (more to the point, so does she).

Gpd knows why this old thread has been resurrected, though.

FabBakerGirlIsBack · 23/09/2009 08:48

I would think - thank goodness the baby is in a proper pram and not a stupid upright thing.

I've been living up north for 7 years. I'm wondering if the reference to the location is because:

Northerners are stereotypically skinty not minty and wouldn't dream of spending 800 squid on a pram.

Northerners don't like anything that could be considered 'pretentious'.

However, Silver Cross IS Made in Yorkshire (which means anyone from Lancashire will most certainly not buy one) so it's Northern manufactured...
