I don't believe there are people in this country judging people because of the type of pram they've got. How ridiculous.

zippitippitoes · 09/06/2008 09:17

well having faffed around with those three wheeler pushchairs which are heavy and awkward and ugly and get punctures and cramped and rstricting and unsuitable for any length of time and hopeless for naps or playing and dont fold easily either if i was choosing i would have a pram

and a sling or cheap stroller if necessary

but i would also not have more car journeys than necessary

WinkyWinkola · 09/06/2008 09:17

Could have been a gift?

Don't you think there's a touch of if you actually care about someone else's £800 pram whether in a village or in Hampstead Garden Suburb?

Are you jealous, OP?

I'd think that she (or someone she knew) had more money than sense!

miffymum · 09/06/2008 09:19

I wouldn't think anything of it at all. Squillions of people round here have Bugaboos which can cost over a grand new with all the extra bits and pieces. I would rather have had one of those although an ex-Ebay Quinny does us just fine...

Thomcat · 09/06/2008 09:19

I'd think, oh how lovely a silver cross pram.

A good friend of mine and a MN uses a really old silver cross for her DD and everytime I see her I think 'cool'.

ItsGrimUpNorth · 09/06/2008 09:19

Some people like to be frivolous with their money. If they've got it, why not spend it? It doesn't have to be anything to do with a lack of sense FGS!

zippitippitoes · 09/06/2008 09:21

those bugaboos look like a waste of money to me

i cant understand why someone would get one of those

are they really that expensive?

littleboyblue · 09/06/2008 09:21

bogie I'cd prob look for a re-born as well.
Personally, I don't like them, I think they are horrid things.
The pushchair was the last thing we bought when preparing for ds arrival and I'd put a limit of £150.
I'm all for buing the best for my son and would always want him to look nice and well kitted, but £800 on a pram!

Rhubarb · 09/06/2008 09:22

I wouldn't know a Bugaboo or a Silver Cross Pram if they ran over my foot! Nor would I know how much they cost. Nor would I care.

posieparker · 09/06/2008 09:23

I would think she was pushing a reborn, as those things are ugly and impractical.

posieparker · 09/06/2008 09:24

Rhubarb, you would notice a silver cross they're victorian and massive.

Habbibu · 09/06/2008 09:25

I would think that maybe, like me, she'd bought it off ebay! I suspect we all have insane indulgences, and this was mine, but I LOVE it. IL's bought us buggy stuff, so we were lucky, but have used my huge coach built pram pretty much every day since dd was born - she's in the porch trying to go to sleep in it as I type, and she's a big 19 mo toddler. Where we are it's easy to go for walks in it, we meet everybody in the village, as they stop us to talk about it. She slept brilliantly in it as a tiny baby and loves it now, and as it has fab suspension, it's just lovely to push.

windygalestoday · 09/06/2008 09:26

i had a vintage (but immaculate) big wheel little wheel silver cross for our ptb -they are fab in the country i walked miles everywhere with him in his carried loads of shopping in the tray underneath in fact his brother often hitched a lift in the tray it was fab as ds got older he could sit up in it and play as we walked and i loved his beautiful white broderie anglaise sheets and covers in fact i only stopped using it when we moved back to manchester because it was impractical.

Nemoandthefishes · 09/06/2008 09:26

Have actually just remembered my auntie had one for her one and only dd and I used to LOVE taking it out for walks!! Plus you could store a ton of shopping underneath but then I only used to walk it to the park and back

ingles2 · 09/06/2008 09:30

I too would assume she has a very generous MIL!

pollywobbledoodle · 09/06/2008 09:32

i'd think...you'll be wanting to change that soon...too cumbersome..

Guadalupe · 09/06/2008 09:33

I would think, wow, look at that huge old fashioned pram and probably admire it passing.

Aren't Bugaboos £500 and Stokkes £600? Maybe she got it secondhand and if she didn't then so what if it was £800.

Maybe she's always imagined herself pushing one of these when she had a baby and saved up. Maybe there's plenty of room in the house for it and they have a fold up for the car/bus and they admire and enjoy using it every day.

UnquietDad · 09/06/2008 09:33

In the unlikely parallel-universe event that I a) knew what brand it was and how much it cost, and b) cared, I'd think "Hubby must be loaded and I bet he's hardly ever at home."

Rhubarb · 09/06/2008 09:33

Well then I would think "oooh how lovely and Victorian!" and that's about as much as my train of thought would go.

I've had my kids so I've no idea how much prams are these days. But if someone wants to spend £800 on a pram then good on 'em. It doesn't affect my life one tiny iota. It might be impractical for you, but they obviously like it.

QuintessentialShadows · 09/06/2008 09:35

I would only notice if the person pushing it did not look as "well dressed" as the pram, and think "wannabee" but I am judgemental me.

Habbibu · 09/06/2008 09:36

UQD - DH not loaded, and at home lots, and gorgeous and also pushes pram. Polly - 19 mo and not a single regret. Ner to the lot of you.

Habbibu · 09/06/2008 09:37
cadelaide · 09/06/2008 09:37

I bought one nearly new 9 yrs ago for DS1, it was £125, no-one wanted it because of the "impracticalities".

I have loved that pram.
