just wondering really....and this is in a northern village, not london...

OP posts:

? I wouldn't have a clue how much it cost, for starters!

staranise · 12/06/2008 17:02

Didn't realise it was the OP's pram. Is she very wary of being judged?

Still don't see the relevance of location. Both where I'm from (north) and where I live now (london), there are all different types of prams, though P&T and/or Maclaren strollers seem to dominate.

Remind me why I'm on this thread again. Oh yes, I'm procrastinating while supposedly 'working from home'

louii · 12/06/2008 17:19

I would think that the person pushing it was someone who worked at the fair as that is the only time i have seen one.

I'd think she was called Bunty...

eekamoose · 12/06/2008 19:30

I do not know the price of anything: prams, cars, watches, handbags, lipsticks, shoes, aspirational toiletries, bicycles. Anything.

I only know house prices (in my little world), a few items of mundane household goods, petrol (and then only by tankful in my car not by litre), maybe I could have a stab at clothes from high street shops, furniture or bottles of wine.

Would be rubbish contestant on The Price Is Right!

So I genuinely would not notice an £800 pram.

I loved mine.
Always wanted one although dh did make me think carefully as is heavy to lift in and out of car with bad back.
But have a large dog so liked the fact that they are high up so dog cant stick her face in.
Lovely bouncy suspension for long walks.

And most importantly they have so much room inside. Sadly I have just sold it as bought a double (1st wheels city twin) and the carry cot looks tiny.
Not sure if its just because ive been used to the SC or thay are small anyway.
Never really thought about what people did think but did get stopped by the older generation ALL THE TIME.

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 12/06/2008 19:46

Also dd is 16month and used it up until a couple of months ago. With plenty of room.

I am unsure what location has to do with what kind of pram you have anyway.

BlaDeBla · 12/06/2008 20:03

We have a big pram but nothing as grand as a Silver Cross (fiver off ebay). I'm glad we'll have wheels for a go-cart!

The proper old fashioned SC pram is called a Kensington I do believe, and if I saw someone pushing one I would go puce with envy.

I have a SC sleepover with classic chassis, bought because it looks the most like a proper pram that you can get whilst still having a fighting chance of getting it into an ordinary hatchback.

We live in the middle of nowhere so pram was constantly in and out of car when DS was tiny. If I had lived in a town and done the majority of my travelling with DS on foot I would have bought one in a heartbeat. They are beautiful.

My mum had one and we all used it, plus the toddler seat that sat on top of it like a 1970s buggy board. She loved it and walked until the rubber on the wheels wore out.

If we move into nearby county town before I have next DC (my plan) I am going to buy one. They just look proper if you know what I mean.

georgiemama · 12/06/2008 20:52

And even with the sleepover I used to get stopped by old ladies - it helped that i had a beautiful crotched pram blanket with blue ribbon round the edge made by my auntie, and knitted pram jackets and bonnets.

Now DS wears T shirts from tesco and no one says anything!

Mine was the Kensington in Navy. Had my heart set on the Balmoral but the body doesnt come off the frame.
Needed to be able to get it in my car.
Really miss it now.
Mind you had to get a new car to fit the pram in.

magicfarawaytree · 12/06/2008 21:02

cool - i love them. she may have been given it. My friends nan used to own a pram shop and gave her what is clearly a top of the range one. she was always embarassed about using it because she thought people would think she was stuck tho.

georgiemama · 12/06/2008 21:04

Kensington in navy (sigh)

My Sleepover is navy blue, and when in proper pram mode had broderie anglaise lining fabric in the carrycot. It's less exciting now it's in pushchair mode, but if I take DS out in it with cosytoe on it does still look quite prammy, and then I get admiration from said old ladies.

I want another DC, just to push lovely pram about again. Is that wrong?

And don't things like Bugaboos and Qunnys (which are a bit hideous IMHO) really expensive anyway? My Sleepover was 290 quid brand new on ebay (from a shop not a private seller) - in box with stand, cosy toe and change bag included. I call that a bargain.

I would think it was cool. my friend was given one by her nan who used to own a pram shop. she hardly used to use it because she thought people would think she was stuck up. I thought it was great though can fit 4 kids in and lovely and comfortable.

morocco · 12/06/2008 21:09

might think 'oooh, cute pram' and also a tiny bit 'bet she buys another smaller nippier pushchair in a few months time'
would also prob think 'there goes a first time mum'

they are a bit offputting though, I can't see myself stopping for a chat, prob cos I would think the person pushing it might be a bit snotty and not want to talk to oiks like me. and I can see 'pram envy' setting in amongst some mums as well. to answer the op's question

magicfarawaytree · 12/06/2008 21:12

stupid computer!!

Having read some recent threads, I would wonder whether the new mum had over-indugent grandparents falling over themselves to buy £800 prams for Precious First Grandchild.

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 12/06/2008 21:25

FWIW I bought mine second hand from ebay for just under half that.
I am very glad I didnt buy a new one as I put a few dents on the main body getting it in and out of the boot.
Would ahve been mortified if I had paid full price and did this.
My Sc was 21 years old and looked like new.
Still got decent price when I sold it on.

Amphibimum · 12/06/2008 21:27

my mum had an ancient one she used for 3 of us and sometimes got all 4 of us riding in/on it while she did the shopping in the market at the end of the road.
ahhh, happy days.

ButterflyMcQueen · 12/06/2008 21:33

mine is on profile atm

Heated · 12/06/2008 22:06

Had to look it up to see what this pram was. Lol at the US Silvercross advert
