2 year old boy in leggings? Is this ok?

Is there a age where my son should stop wearing leggings? He wears them most days with a hoodie or oversized tee.

I saw another mum on TikTok discuss it and it made me think/question when and if he should stop wearing them?

I just find them so comfy and practical for him haha plus I'm always in leggings myself and much more comfy than a pair of jeans

My nephew is 3 and still wears them.

raspberryberet7 · 05/11/2024 12:11

Of course it is

KingOfPeace · 05/11/2024 12:11

2 years is absolutely fine, I assume you are still choosing the clothes? Presumably there is a nappy there too.

It's only inappropriate when it would constitute flashing, which will be a long time yet. I'm sure he'll have clothing preferences before long.

Totally fine

Merrow · 05/11/2024 12:13

We only moved DS1 on to joggers when he was running around lots as leggings tore immediately at the knee, there's no set age they need to stop wearing them. He also developed a strong preference for having pockets!

Ygfrhj · 05/11/2024 12:13

They can be a bit thin. I don't put DD in them often because she needs something more hard wearing for the playground.

Grepes · 05/11/2024 12:15

Why wouldn’t they be?! I see adults wearing leggings all the time!! I don’t think there is an age cut off for leggings!

This reassures me! I don't personally see a problem but seeing that tiktok made me doubt myself😫 thank you

My nephew, 4, is always in his older sisters cast off leggings, usually adorned with strawberries, foxes etc. he likes them very much.

Boymamaoftwo · 05/11/2024 12:26

Oh thank you everyone 🫶🏼, yes I stilL pick his clothes at the moment and he's still in a nappy! I think I may have to get some more joggers as they're a bit warmer for him as the chilly weather is coming!!

honestly thank you everyone!! 🥹 make me feel so much more reassured

Totally fine! My DS wore leggings to nursery right up until he left for school. And mostly his big sisters hand me downs too!! It's so cute! You can always switch out for joggers now it's getting a bit colder. X

Because men get to the age where you see a very pronounced ball sack when wearing leggings. I have a friend who wears them as an adult and I really wish he wouldn't.

Anni23 · 05/11/2024 12:40

I prefer leggings for my DS who’s almost 2.5, still fine now he’s potty trained too but he wears joggers on nursery days as they’re a bit easier for him to manage himself. He can pull leggings up and down too though. I find some are quite thin but I think the good quality ones look much nicer with a jumper/slightly oversized top than other options.

PeppermintPatty10 · 05/11/2024 12:42

Keep the leggings when it gets colder (assuming they still fit) as they can go underneath joggers! My DS at age 2-3 wore leggings or knitted tights under trousers when it was cold.

Well there is also the same issue with women too - there’s even a horrible term coined from it! Doesn’t stop either sexes wearing them.

You can get fleece-lined ones too, I have some for wfh to cut down on heating.

My son has the same, they’re much easier to wear with wellies too.

BarnacleBeasley · 05/11/2024 12:50

I hope so because my 3.5 year old son refuses to wear any bottoms that aren't leggings!

SuffolkUnicorn · 05/11/2024 12:57

my son won brightly coloured leggings until he was 7 from duns of Sweden and other brands like that I don’t see the problem?

SuffolkUnicorn · 05/11/2024 12:58

I think I’ve seen that video if it it it’s probably the type to dress in Disney

Rawrrawr1 · 05/11/2024 13:00

Leggings tend to be all my 4yr old wears outside of his school uniform..as he pointed out to me, 'they are easier for running in mummy'

YABU to doubt your own parenting decisions based on something you have seen posted by a stranger on TikTok.

WTAFisthisnonsense · 05/11/2024 13:00

He is in clean and comfortable clothes. Sounds perfect.

Westofeasttoday · 05/11/2024 13:02

Who cares? You do you. No one in their right mind should eve say anything or critisice anything a two year old wears - especially something so innocuous as leggings.

Nailed it.

Seriously OP, you are a grown adult responsible for another human being and you are being influenced in your parenting decisions by social media?!?! Get a grip. You need to toughen up and be a parent

middleagedandinarage · 05/11/2024 13:09

I think while he's still in nappys leggings are absolutely fine. There is a boy at DD's nursery who still wears leggings, you see a lot of him in them, I think it's a bit inappropriate tbh. He's almost 5
