How often are we bathing kids?

We have a 1 year old and a 4 year old, bath time is usually twice a week and they also get a shower after the swimming pool. A friend recently advised she baths her kids every night? I thought this wasn't great for their skin but now im not sure. I shower at least once a day but didnt think kids need that as they dont sweat

It's v rare mine don't have a bath before bed. It's just part of their routine. They're nearly 5 and 2. I find the younger one especially is really grubby after nursery.

namechangedasashamd · 01/03/2024 18:53

Every day straight after school

missquiet · 01/03/2024 18:54

I have the same age gap and I tend to bath every day, they both get grubby at nursery / preschool so I always feel they need to wash the germs away! In the summer they get all hot and sticky from suncream too so another reason I've always done it daily.
Occasionally they may skip if it's been a late one and need to get them to bed.
I guess it's always been part of the bedtime routine and wind down to sleep for us.

A bath/shower once a week plus a shower after swimming if they go

Jk987 · 01/03/2024 18:54

2-3 times a week these days.

Try not to compare - you know your kids and what their needs are!

JubileeJumps · 01/03/2024 18:54

Every night.

5 year old and 2 year old get bathed 3 times a week.

Lovetogarden2022 · 01/03/2024 18:56

Usually every other night unless it's the summer/they've done sport. They are 4 and 1. The 1 year old not so much, but a bath has already "wound up" my 4 year old and she doesn't settle as well for sleep. No idea why - we've tried nice relaxing baths with spa music playing 🤣 big splashy playtime baths to wear her out....normal baths... no matter what it is, she's always hard to settle after a bath so we try and limit them to only when necessary.

MagratsDanglyCharms21 · 01/03/2024 18:56

Shower every other day - 5 mins, bath every other day with hairwash and relaxation. It's more about the routine than the cleanliness at this stage (apart from DC needing hair wash every other day with special shampoo for dermal issue!). DC will soon be hitting puberty - some friends already hitting the BO stage! - so just good habits!

Twice a week here too for our toddler. Top and tail daily

Kalevala · 01/03/2024 18:58

Mine showered two or three days a week, maybe every second day in summer, so two baths plus a shower sounds fine. Especially in winter when they are all covered so no grubby knees or feet from playing outside.

Gloriousgardener11 · 01/03/2024 18:59

OMG kids are filthy creatures!
They need to be bathed everyday, the ones at my school stink if they aren’t bathed very regularly and that’s more than twice a week with an after swim shower in my book.
You can literally smell the unbathed ones ☹️

Thatsasfarasitgoes · 01/03/2024 19:00

Every night without fail. It was part of a very successful routine.

ColourMeBlue · 01/03/2024 19:01

My one year old each night. She hates to wear a bib and feeds herself,so it's much easier to bath her each night.Clean pajamas, milk and bed.

Just curious how you top and tail your toddler, with a face cloth and soap?

Oh no you're making me worried! Would hate a teacher to think of my child as a stinky child, its usually Sunday night and Wednesday night bath and a shower in the swinmers on a Friday. Maybe i should look at a quick shower but honestly he's not sweaty or dirty besides round his face which we do wash every night

4 and 1 year old here, every other day bath and shampoo. In between I wash hands and faces, and use a baby wipe to clean the bum area after they’ve done a poo (do this every time with the littlest anyway).

User0ne · 01/03/2024 19:08

7, 6 and 2yr old DC here. They get washed twice a week (once after swimming and once on Sunday). If they end up really mucky from something then they get an extra wash, otherwise it's just hands and faces.

I don't wash more than that and only wash hair with shampoo once a week, though I have a flannel wash every day. I don't smell - I work with teenagers and they'd definitely let me know 😅

DD is 13 DS is 6 and they both shower every other day, and my little boy bathes on a Sunday before school. ❤️

TheIceQween · 01/03/2024 19:11

@dancingsands I smell, I smell…. Dogs droppings 😆

bows101 · 01/03/2024 19:12

Every night. It's part of our bedtime routine plus he's always filthy from school.

I totally understand parents who have more than 1 child doing it less though.

spriots · 01/03/2024 19:13

Are my children total oddities because I often see people saying that their children don't sweat but mine absolutely do!
