How often are we bathing kids?

We have a 1 year old and a 4 year old, bath time is usually twice a week and they also get a shower after the swimming pool. A friend recently advised she baths her kids every night? I thought this wasn't great for their skin but now im not sure. I shower at least once a day but didnt think kids need that as they dont sweat

My 3 and 5 year old get a bath once week and a quick shower every other day. We used to do nightly baths and I look back and wonder why on earth we wasted so much time (and water!) for so long.

OMG kids are filthy creatures!
They need to be bathed everyday, the ones at my school stink if they aren’t bathed very regularly and that’s more than twice a week with an after swim shower in my book.
You can literally smell the unbathed ones ☹️

No you literally can’t.

Every night without fail. It was part of a very successful routine.

If you want good bathing habits when they are teens, it is useful for them to know bathing/showering everyday is necessary.

2 or 3 times a week, 6 and 2 year old.
Wash hair once a week after swimming.

I'd find it a lot doing bathtime every night to be honest! Hope they don't smell 😂

modgepodge · 01/03/2024 19:19

I did every night until she started school. For me when they’re in nappies it’s nicer to do every night so their bum gets a good clean. However once we started school, a couple of nights a week when she was at after school club til nearly 6pm then needed food, I found having s bath too made bedtime really late and it was stressful hurrying her in the bath (she’d been in there ages if I let her!) so we cut to 3/4 times a week with s hair wash once, which I feel is plenty. In the summer or if swimming every day on holiday I’ll go back to daily but for now I think this is fine.

Twice a week - once after swimming and one other time.

We did once a week for years.

Goddessonahighway · 01/03/2024 19:21

Bath every other day. They get washed twice a day. At least I hope the big one is washing himself twice a day 😁

FunLurker · 01/03/2024 19:23

DS 15, twice a day and clean clothes morning and night. Older DC minimal once a day,

CattingAbout · 01/03/2024 19:25

Mine are 6 and 3 and have a bath every day. Big one probably doesn't need one that often, but they go in together and absolutely love it!
Little one is at outdoor nursery and comes home totally filthy especially at this time of year.

SouthLondonMum22 · 01/03/2024 19:25

He's 1 and every night as part of the bedtime routine since he was weeks old.

TillyTrifle · 01/03/2024 19:27

7 and 5 - shower every day apart from a bath and hair wash on Sunday evenings. They’re active, play outside a lot and school is filthy. The toilets there are grim, especially in reception. They need a thorough wash and tbh I do find it a bit shocking that some children are only being washed a couple of times a week. I’m far from a clean freak but instilling good personal hygiene habits is important to me and we’re not living in Victorian times!

My dc are adults now, but when they were little they had a bath once a week. They definitely did not stink.
People tend to overwash everything and everybody on here!

Tarantella6 · 01/03/2024 19:29

Every night when they were pre schoolers. They just got so disgusting at nursery, food all over them, paint in their hair etc.

They're primary school now and a bit less disgusting. Once a week after swimming and always on a Sunday night is the minimum. DD1 showers most days out of choice.

wubwubwub · 01/03/2024 19:30

Generally DD4 has 3 showers a week, and maybe a bath 2 times month. She has shower after swimming (sun, weds) and shower on a Friday afternoon.

she'll sometimes have a bath, more for something to do/play time.

And if she's dirty she'll have a shower as needed.

Well I must have a very sensitive nose 🤷🏻‍♀️

Totally agree with this👍

Cherrytrrr · 01/03/2024 19:31

Normally every night, wash hair once or twice a week.

Ithinkitstimeforbed · 01/03/2024 19:32

bathe every night here. Children definitely sweat though? Maybe not as much as adults. We also all moisturise after every bath/shower so don’t worry about dry skin.

You can literally smell the unbathed ones ☹️

You're smelling the fusty clothes etc.
You can see grubbiness etc, but smells?.nah

No child stinks that badly for having a bath every other day instead of every day.

PurBal · 01/03/2024 19:33

Every other day.

DelurkingAJ · 01/03/2024 19:35

What about the summer when they’ve had at least one round of sunscreen on? Mine were always sticky every day from that.

We’ve always washed every day from tiny. When tiny they frequently had food/paint/mud in their hair. Now at 11 the eldest needs to be in good habits and more or less is (for now at least).

Skidoddle · 01/03/2024 19:37

You really can smell the ones that bathe once or twice a week. They always have a musty smell. There's no way a 1 year old doesn't get food in their hair daily. Ours shower or bathe everyday as do we!
