I use persil bio liquid and comfort pure fabric conditioner. But I never get that ‘ahh these clothes smell so nice’ feeling.
they don’t smell unpleasant or anything and they are all clean but I want to be able to say oh that smells so nice!
any recommendations on what to use ? My kids don’t have sensitive skin or anything and are older now so feel I don’t have to stick with the gentle stuff

Following with interest, as despite changing my softener and detergent regularly I can never smell it.

Clingfilm · 12/08/2023 17:49

I swap and change, currently on Smol, smells lovely, akin to fairy but different.

bowiesmum · 12/08/2023 17:50

I was always mad to get my clothes smelling nice and could never get the right products UNTIL...I put bold spring awakening pods with lemon outdoorable spring awakening plus lenor SA things you pour on the clothes for added scent. I was out today and could smell the freshness off my own clothes!

I love the smell of Tide. I went to Orlando in the early 90s and fell in love with it.

Me too! We have just been in the states and brought back loads of Tide.

Winter2020 · 12/08/2023 17:53

I love the Yellow Comfort "Sunshiney Days". I never use the recommended dose - only use about 2mm in the cap but at that low dose I love the smell when the clothes are dry.

Bluebellsparklypant · 12/08/2023 18:01

I think we can get used to the smell of the washing powders we use and don’t realise how nice it all smells, maybe mix it up abit next time you buy some

Me too! We have just been in the states and brought back loads of Tide.

I buy a load every time I go. I bought some early May and I've still got some left.

Leab23 · 12/08/2023 18:07

Do you measure your detergent and softener based on water hardness, size of the load ans how dirty the clothes are? Deffo makes a difference if you don't already!

Otherwise try scent booster, scented dryer sheets if you use a tumble dryer or cleaning your washing machine 😀

MansfieldLark · 12/08/2023 18:08

I use scent boosters, although mumsnet would have me put in stocks for doing so!😁

Wowjustwow99 · 12/08/2023 18:10

Smol - it's lovely and delivered to your door!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/08/2023 18:30

Doesn't smell nice, or smells bad? I'm not for using scented products at all.
if there is a bad smell then you need to be cleaning your machine more often (if you do it at all?).
Check for mould inside the gasket (rubber liner) and clean that with 4:1 water to bleach. You may have to do this several rimes, then occasionally for maintenance.
Then put a dishwasher pod in the machine and run the tub clean cycle. You can also purchase tub cleaning products. Do a tub clean every two weeks.

when washing clothes use unscented liquid, not pods, and use only half the amount. Add 1/2c plain white vinegar to rinse. I have followed this method for years. Clothes last longer and never smell bad.
Last, always leave lid/door open for air drying machine and never leave wet clothes sitting in machine. If you do laundry every day then wipe inside of tub and gasket dry after washing. It's good to wipe gasket dry every time regardless though and check the filter and drain it and clean it regularly (have a towel and small bucket handy for draining).
Good luck!

Screamingabdabz · 12/08/2023 18:33

Good God - people are actually proud that their clothes stink of fabric conditioner. Yuck. 🤢

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/08/2023 18:35

Didn't read you post thoroughly... oops.
looks like you just want a nicely scented product.

Bonfire23 · 12/08/2023 18:40

Persil bio for me and whatever scent beads are on offer

KitchenMandarin · 12/08/2023 18:42

@FatLarrysBanned how many washes would you say you get out of them? Duvet Day sounds right up my street!

TheBerry · 12/08/2023 18:52

Do you dry outside on a line? That’s what makes all the difference.

Q2C4 · 12/08/2023 18:58

Clean the washing machine, stop using fabric conditioner (bizarrely it can trap bad smells) and line dry as much as possible.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 12/08/2023 18:58

My washer is weird. If I put a full load of darks on they smell musty. Colours are fine but the darks I have to split the load. I use fairy now and no softener as my daughter was getting itchy

Drying my clothes outside doesn't make it smell nicer IMHO.

Titfortat78 · 12/08/2023 19:00

I found mine smelled someone told me using liquid all the time causes it. It's also bad for the machine. I gave the drawer a good clean. Use an old toothbrush to clean the section of washing machine above the drawer it's prone to mildew. Give the rubber seal in and drum a good clean with white vinegar. Then put it on a hot wash with no washing in. Just some white vinegar.

Tiredmummy201 · 12/08/2023 19:01

HerwiPotah · 12/08/2023 17:26

That is how you nicely let someone know it smells too much.

Yes maybe 😂 she did ask what I use though and uses it herself now so maybe the sniff test won’t work next time. I’m sure it may be too much for some people though my DP is a builder and his workmates comment on his smell too 😂

Takeresponsibilityforyourownactions · 12/08/2023 19:02

I only use fabric softener now because my clothes were coming out hard and smelt damp, bare in mind I only recently cleaned the washing machine.

You must not like the smell of freshly washed clothes 🤣

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 12/08/2023 19:08

My washer has a function which just takes the amount of liquid that's needed so I just use liquid now but might change tk powder
