Hi, we are adopting a 2 and 3 year old, just window shopping shoes right now, don't have foster carer details right now to ask but want to get an idea.

What size shoe are you 2 and 3 years old wearing?

Please comment size with age please.

Also anyone who has a child with "pigeon" toes under a child development team/paediatrician do you recommend any specific brands for specific foot support?

I guess it depends on whether they are boys or girls.

My 3yr old girl is a size 7 but my 17mth old son is already a size 5 so likely to have much larger feet than my DD by the same age.

OkyDoke · 02/08/2023 16:34

My 2.5 year old girl has been measured today and is a 7.5

Tryingtohelp12 · 02/08/2023 16:35

No, it depends on the individual child, whether they are boy or girl, nothing to do with their sex.

Happy little soles and startrite do the best shoes overall imo, chunky and bareflor friendly - however not sure if there's any specialist brands
Don't be afraid of Vinted, ppl sell on their outgrown or new shoes, as long as you can see the soles and the wear I've no problem buying secondhand shoes
You can buy a foot gauge from clarks or startrite to have at home

Roollie · 02/08/2023 16:37

Really depends on the child. My son is on the 9th centile for height and a size 6. Has been for a while. He's nearly 3

theyareonlynoodlesmichael · 02/08/2023 16:42

My daughter has just turned 3 and in 7.5. She is really tall. Her friend is 2.5 and tiny with the same size feet!

You might just have to wait and see. Hope it all goes well!

Jazzybean · 02/08/2023 16:42

2y 8m DD is 6.5-7.

YourNameGoesHere · 02/08/2023 16:46

It's a how long is a piece of string question and honestly not one you will be able to accurately guess or predict until you've actually measured the child's feet.

Indecisive65 · 02/08/2023 16:49

@inappropriateraspberry

Hmmm sorry but no that's incorrect actually, I think you'll find that it is a fact that on average boys feet are larger and wider than girls throughout childhood.

Indecisive65 · 02/08/2023 16:49

But yes agree that's it's something you cannot guess as everyone is different.

Carouselfish · 02/08/2023 16:51

Size 6 and a half to 7. She has caveman feet, wide and square! Other dd has slim feet so not having much luck with hand me downs.

Pastaf0rbreakfast · 02/08/2023 16:52

My nearly 2yo is a 7, 3 months ago he was a 5.5 - you can’t know until you measure and you’ll need to do it regularly. As pp mentioned, use Vinted or similar as children’s shoes are expensive, we have multiple pairs that have been worn a handful of times.

AmyandPhilipfan · 02/08/2023 16:54

It's not something you can guess really as they're all so different at that age. My daughter was in 9.5 when I got her measured at just 3. Between 2 and 3 she was typically going up half a size every couple of months. Her little friend of the same age was probably a size 6 at 3. Good luck with the adoption!

Cranberriesandtea · 02/08/2023 17:08

@YourNameGoesHere yeah I know, was asking for a common size, not going to buy any until I have the exact size just nice to look for now and it's looks like size 6-8 is most common, few outliers with big feet! 😂

Thanks everyone! I know I'm able to accurately buy shoes until I have their wee feet in my hands and measured, or until the foster carer and can tell me. I googled average show sizes and found it confusing.

From comments so far looks like 6-8 so I'll have a look around those sizes. I'm obsessed with new balance toddler shoes right now so am online "window" shopping. Can't wait to do the real thing with them.

Have to mindful that they need quality shoes as well as fashionable so thanks for the brand recommendations.

My dd3 is a size 9, she's tall for her age.
My older dc's were only a size 5 at age 3, they're both small like me.

NameChange30 · 02/08/2023 17:37

My DD is 2y11m and her shoe size is 7-7.5 (EU 24).

FWIW I don't rate Clarks at all, they have/had a reputation for quality that is no longer deserved, I think the shoes are poor quality and overpriced.

It's hard to find other shoe shops in my city as they've all closed :( but Charles Clinkard has a decent selection (if you have a branch near you) as well as John Lewis. Brands I rate are Bobux and Froddo, but we've also had Geox and Start-Rite.

cavebaby · 02/08/2023 17:37

All these little tiny feet! DD got her first pair of shoes at 11 months old and was a size 5 Shock Now at nearly 4 years old she's a size 10.

UnravellingTheWorld · 02/08/2023 17:49

Bit of a wide range!

My 2 yo is in size 7.5 shoes. His 3 yo cousin is size 6.

TheBirdintheCave · 02/08/2023 17:55

My 2.5 year old is between 7.5 and 8 at the moment. We get his shoes from Start Rite as we found they stock the traditional style Mary Jane plimsolls that we like.

User3735 · 02/08/2023 19:03

6-8 on average. One of mine was pigeon toed, and it was due to hypermobility which is fairly common. Often a child with hypermobility that delays walking is hypermobile in their ankles too, and they benefit from supportive shoes line Dr martens, kickers, or any ankle boots. Even converse high tops are better than trainers. The brand of shoes physios prescribe are called Piedro. But my child was extremely pigeon toed and was x-rayed to check her hips were ok, and she didn't have hypermobile ankles (every other joint except ankles!) So boots wouldn't help and would just add bulk.

PetitPorpoise · 02/08/2023 19:04

My 3yo girl is a size 10 but my niece is a couple of months older and she is just into an 8.

Whattodo112222 · 02/08/2023 19:06

When my daughter was 3 she was in size 8. She's 5 now and a size 10. I think it also depends a little bit on height and build too.

shelbaby · 02/08/2023 19:19

My 3yr old (4 in a few months) has just gone in to a size 7 recently. Apparently that's quite small for her age, she is petite though. Her sister was about same size though at that age and she was taller. Her cousin is a year younger and wearing a 6.5.
