Hi, we are adopting a 2 and 3 year old, just window shopping shoes right now, don't have foster carer details right now to ask but want to get an idea.

What size shoe are you 2 and 3 years old wearing?

Please comment size with age please.

Also anyone who has a child with "pigeon" toes under a child development team/paediatrician do you recommend any specific brands for specific foot support?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I like Bobux and superfit for kids shoes. Superfit are really well made for small children daily shoes.
kuling - I buy wellington boots and snow
boots.

My 2 year old girl is in a size 5

@User3735 sorry can i ask what made you get your little one referred/ how you knew about the hypermobility... My 2 year old seems to walk run with toes pointing in a lot (and is constantly running into things or falling over) but Google just says they usually outgrow the pigeon toe walking by age 8.. Apparently her 1 and now 2 year old hv checks are cancelled "due to covid" and she wasnt walking until prob 1.5

She was my third child and my others didn't walk like she did when they learnt to walk, so it just looked wrong for me and I took her to GP who said it was due to her wearing cloth nappies 🙄. Then I took her to a chiropractor recommended by a friend (I didn't know chiropractors were woo at the time) who wrote a report to her GP suggesting a hip X ray, the X ray was clear, so they referred to physio who said she was very hypermobile and had weak core muscles (caused by the hypermobility and the way she sat with her legs in a V shape behind her-very common with hypermobile kids) and she was lucky her ankles were fine or her walking wound have been delayed. Physio said it was probably one of us parents who had passed it to her (turns out it was me, I was diagnosed with knee, wrist and and hip hypermobility last year after years of general pain).

The physio said she would probably struggle with neat handwriting etc which she does, she's 10 now and handwriting is awful but school have said she will be allowed to type for high school and exams. Other than that it hasn't held her back, she tripped over constantly until she was about 8, but she doesn't now and and she doesn't in-toe anymore, I think that stopped around age 6 or 7. She would tire more easily, as they have to work their muscles harder. She always needed closed toe sandals as they can cause all children to trip more, and she tripped a lot in shoes like crocs or shoes with poor grip, but that is the only adjustment we had to make. Some hypermobile children suffer with joint pain but she doesn't so far luckily. She has never excelled at any sports, but I do know some hypermobile children who are athletes so I don't know if that is the reason.

My 21 month old is very tall for his age (off the percentile charts) with big feet and wears 8.5H. He's a nightmare to buy shoes for due to his extra wide feet.

Bit younger than you're looking for but a good example of how much shoe sizes can vary!

PlumpAndGrump · 03/08/2023 21:35

My child started reception just turned age 4 in size 12 shoes. Now just 9 and wearing an adult size 6!

unicornjewels · 03/08/2023 21:40

My 17 month old DS was measured yesterday and was 6.5. Was last measured 6 weeks ago and gone up .5 size in that time.

Cranberriesandtea · 03/08/2023 21:46

@User3735 yes she walks pigeon toed, from positional talipes from pregnancy apparently, I know that they are currently under physio with stretches and everyone around them correcting sitting positions on the floor, no 'W formation' sitting. Swimming to strengthen core too. Don't know too much about it, but nothing has been mentioned about hypermobile or hips.

My DD is 3 (3.25) and her feet are tiny - size 5.5. shoes are so specific to the child at the particular time. I wouldn't waste money buying them in advance. I've got so many sandals in the cupboard that I thought she'd wear last year than possibly she might wear next year - or the year after!

GetUpStandUp4 · 03/08/2023 21:50

I used to walk pigeon toed when I was little. my mum made me walk completely outwards for ages to over compensate and eventually I started walking straight. I am hypermobile as are my kids.

Eldest was in about a 7 at just turned three and now in 8.5 at just turned four. Little sister is coming up two and is 5.5, will maybe be in a 6 by then. So I agree if you aim for 7-8 they will fit someone at some point 😂. Also agree that Start Rite shoes are fab, often decent styles in their sale and their measurer is easy to use at home.
Little one did have positional talipes but it's not been mentioned since she was small so I guess she's grown out of it as they said she would- but I'm going to have a closer look tomorrow now!

Flipflopflopflip · 03/08/2023 21:51

My nearly 4 year seems to have tiny feet based on this thread, she's only just grown into a size 6 😂

DahliaRose · 03/08/2023 21:54

My 2 year old is a 7.5

miamiibiza · 03/08/2023 21:55

Age 3 DS size 8

Justhereforaibu1 · 03/08/2023 21:59

My 2 year 3 month year old boy is 6.5g

crackersforcheese · 03/08/2023 22:03

My nearly 3yo is between a 7.5-8 depending on the shop I buy from

Wrongsideofpennines · 03/08/2023 22:05

2.5 is a size 6.5 but a friend of hers at a similar age was a 9 so it can vary a lot.

I wouldn't buy shoes second hand. They mould to the wearers feet so will affect the way the next owner walks.

1992H · 03/08/2023 22:09

My 3.5 year old is an 11.5, both mine have big feet though

ForeverTired89 · 03/08/2023 22:09

My DD who was 3 in May is a size 7.

Smurf123 · 04/08/2023 11:29

@User3735 wow OK thanks. Tbh that sounds a lot like both my kids - the eldest is 5 he sits in the w shape, knock knees though less so now he's a bit bigger, has found writing/ letter formation difficult (I got his vision checked as in class pictures he was doing squiggles while everyone else did letters) but I never really thought much of his walking. He's active jumps alot etc never stops 😂 mil always says she thinks he's hypermobile but they have lots of opinions and after a while you tune them out so I never thought more of it.
But dd is 2 and I have noticed her toes pointing in big time and also the constant tripping and falling over literally like she can fall running in a straight line on flat ground.
My gp is a nightmare to get an appointment but I'll try again to get her an appointment. Thanks!

My 3yr old (4 in a few months) has just gone in to a size 7 recently. Apparently that's quite small for her age, she is petite though. Her sister was about same size though at that age and she was taller. Her cousin is a year younger and wearing a 6.5.

Mine too, shes 4 and a 7.5-8 depending on the shop. I’m tall but my feet are only a 5.5 so think she gets her dinky little feet from me.
