Hello!

We've noticed that this thread is quite old now, and some of the product recommendations are a little out of date. We've spent weeks speaking to parents and testing the top-performing pushchairs on the market to find the best double buggy for toddler and newborn.

Hope this helps! Flowers

Mountain buggy or the new twin phil and teds (side by side as opposed to tandem)

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 21/02/2008 11:39

Although perhaps for you the tandem will be best as it can be a single too, so gives you the flexibility.

Sazisi · 21/02/2008 11:47

The Phil and Teds sport buggy + doubles seat; it's easy to push and you can use it as a single with maybe a buggy board once your DD is old enough (the p&t is a bit heavy for lifting in and out of cars though, but sounds like that shouldn't be a problem) Or, a Jane tandem buggy. I'd steer clear of the the graco and similar tandems though - they are a bugger to push. you need pneumatic tyres with the wieght of two to push around!

I agree , my friend has a Graco tandem and it's like pushing a train. It's huge when folded too.

my dh friend has offered us a mamas and papas one , no idea what model etc but im not sure we can afford a phil and teds ,

phil and teds

but they are ALL awful

do you really need one with that gap?

i have a 2.5 yo and a 4 yo and a newborn, I use a sling atm, but expect to at most use a buggyboard + buggy when dd2 is about 6 months.

sweetkitty · 21/02/2008 11:56

fillyjonk - that is interesting you have the same gaps I will have 4yo, 2 1/2 yo and newborn. I was worried about having all 2 out with me so have decided on a Phil and Teds then at least I can have single or double when it suits me.

I had a 18 month gap last time and had Mama and Papas Twin Aria (rubbish IMHO) and a Graco tandem (better but still not that great).

mummypud · 21/02/2008 11:56

i was going to do that at first ie use a buggy board but as we dont drive its a long old walk every day every where and i just dont know if dd w ill be comfy of stay on the thing for that long , ?

mummypud I drive VERY little with the kids

We normally do about 3-4 miles a day, though not all at once

dd1 is capable of walking that

In fact it is BECAUSE I walk so much that I try to avoid double pushchairs.

mummypud · 21/02/2008 12:06

lol i guess i,m seeing the sitation as it is now and not six months down the line, maybe then she will be able to walk more .

If you get a decent sling you can always keep that in the pram and put the baby in it if DD gets tired. I used one occasionally until mine were about 14 months and got waaay too heavy.

I may well have a newborn a 2.5 yo and a 4 yo by next Oct. I have a double buggy as the gap was smaller with my first 2 (20m).

I will probably use the sling/ single pushchair/ buggyboard combination most of the time as it allows more flexibility to use the bus etc. (I can't drive). However The double is useful for shopping trips as toddler can walk or use buggy board and shopping can go in their seat.

I have a Jane powertwin - essential if you have to use narrow doorways and it has lasted well (I was planning on selling it this spring - but looks like I will be needing it afterall).

I don't know how safe a toddler seat is but p'haps it depends on the size of your children - mine are huge and heavy which causes problems whatever buggy I use.

hth and congrats

mummypud · 21/02/2008 12:18

thanks megglevache, i bougth a sling for dd but never used it as she had a gorgeous pram , maybe i could give it a go

I'm currently looking at a Nipper 360 - anyone got any views?

My gap will be 15 months (baby due August). I am watching this thread with interest.

The other option was a Jane powertwin.

I had a Bertini Shuttle with Toddler seat - very stable as its 4 large wheels (not 3 which is a bit tippy I found). They are hard to find though - try ebay. I just sold mine to another MNer, who I hope is enjoying it

well the pram is an older style but very stable , loved it with dd 1, am starting to think i should just buy a buggy board and use the sling sometimes, only trouble is current buggy is a gracco metro sport air , awful and ridiculously bad to stear, would prob have to buy new one any way as would be no good with buggy board

Hi i had a Bertini Bidwell 905 with toddler seat for my dd2 who was 2.6 when the baby arrived, it was lovely to push and easy to manouvre as its only the size of a single pram. Ilive in the country and used it everyday with no problems. DD2 now walks everywhere so we just use a buggy board, so ive got to sell the bertini
