Hello MummyAnnabella, Congratulations, and good luck with your pregnancy.
My dd1 only started walking a month or so after dd2 was born (14 month gap), so we really needed a double buggy. We've got a Phil & Teds, which I was always a bit sceptical about, but I don't think we would survive withoutit as we are out and about in it every day, both my dd's seem happy in it (well most of the time!)and it's not so heavy that it kills me to push it (my back is knackered!). We were lucky in that our single pushchair was a really cheap one from e-bay, so i didn't feel too bad about getting another. They are mega expensive, but we found the P&T on e-bay too for about £250, which included all the extra bits.

Chaotica · 03/03/2008 18:07

What's with m&b groups?? -- just went to our local one with ds and it seems to have been canceled, forever as far as I could tell... No notice up or anything. (At least ds is too young to expect anything, DD would have been heartbroken. But it was one of the only things I do with him on his own.) I met another confused mum on the street outside so we went for a coffee, but it's annoying to lose a weekly source of grown-up conversation. Maybe i'll try to find something else to do with ds...

Hello mummyannabella, and welcome. I'd keep your single buggy if you have space. I try to encourage DD to walk so we use the single quite a lot still. Can't advise on doubles though -- I have a m & p one but chose it because it was cheap second hand. It works for me (although its a bit wide).

lol at your mother, HazeyJane. My mum tried to start expecting mothers day gifts when we were in our twenties -- but by then she had trained us too well and it was too late!

katyt1 · 03/03/2008 20:35

oh i SO want a P&T now. wasn't sure before but a friend has talked me round and now i'm dead set on getting one - but dh won't allow me to get a new one - and they are blooming expensive so i kind of agree. have been looking out on ebay and missed out yesterday by 36quid, grr!

chaotica - nightmare re group, hope you find another one soon.

mother's day - ok really, dh bought me easter eggs (anyone else find this odd??? i got him chocs that said 'no 1 dad' etc, couldn't he manage the 'mum' ones??hmph!) and got ds1 to pick daffodils from the garden plus a card.

think i am extra hormonal at the mo, feel a bit pmt-ish tho have only just stopped bleeding at 6 wks so not real pmt.

have just put ds2 into his own room for the first time, hope he and all of us sleep better for it, tho i can hear him stirring already so not sure how it will go...

hi mummyannabelle

grr suppergrrl re sunday, hope you gave dh what for. there's always father's day to pay him back i guess, why don't you arrange a night out for the night before?!
my q re easter eggs looks silly in comparison, sorry.

ok, my mum is due to leave soon and i will be on my own with the 2 ds's. can i ask for bullet point tips on how to manage with 2 young ones, esp re mornings & bedtimes?
open to any ideas!!

i'm not bothering with going to toddler group anymore Chaotica- i feel unwelcome and interogated last time too. And i've given it a good go, been at least 8 times.

i might start getting bus to my Gran's on Wednesdays instead, and get DH to pick us up. Gran will love it, and at least i'll get offered a cup of tea!

can't wait for backpack to come!!!! it's so cute

MummyAnnabella · 04/03/2008 10:23

thnks hj - quite fancy a p & t double and can also see chaoticas point about keeping the single but dont think ds could manage to walk the mile round trip to the shops. mind you i used to use the carrycot for all ds daytime naps until he was 3/4 months so he could stay downstairs and i could get on with stuff - esp if ds is napping in cot upstairs.

think the answer maybe to buy a 2nd hand p & t though i am in n.ireland and mn and ebay dont often have as much for sale here. wont do anything till after 3 months though just to be safe.

taliac · 04/03/2008 13:57

single buggy also useful for when you want to spend quality time with one child or other (or so you can get DH to take DD1 to shops while DD2 sleeps and you have a long bath!)

Chaotica · 04/03/2008 18:25

Early start. Whinge. Moan. Cry. Wail. Calpol for teddy (due to no obvious need for DD to have any except for whinging, moaning and occasional wailing). Go downstairs. Throw toys. Wakes DS who... (wait for it) starts to whinge, moan, cry, wail, and generally complain. DD hides cereal under doll's house and crunches it on clean(ish) floor [grrrr emoticon]; told off, throws more toys. Time out [no effect whatsoever emoticon]. Breakfast: spat out on floor; blueberries thankfully eaten. Humanity seems to sort-of return to DD after fromage frais ; so relieved as she was going to childminder today.... DS: cry, complain, whinge, cling, scream, puke... (probably teeth and a cold) ...calpol (I gave in) and.... sleep at last Poor DCs -- they turned me into horrible mummy and they're probably just a bit sick .

Lets hope tomorrow is better.

Chaotica · 04/03/2008 18:29

Oh, and I had a job application to do... [grrr again].

BTW do any of you use timeouts with your eldest? (I presume none of our youngest are even old enough). DD knows what it is since the cm uses it, but I'm really beginning to doubt she has any idea what's going on. (For instance, I said: do you want to end up in time out? And she said 'yes' and toddled off to the bottom step...) And she can never say even vaguely why she's there. I think she's too young, even if she does know what it is, she doesn't know why...

hazeyjane · 04/03/2008 19:32

Hello.

I'm not sure what to do with dd1, I tried naughty step, but I think she is either too young or I'm too weak (ie she gets off, I put her back on, she gets off again, and we both laugh). The other day she bit dd2 on her forehead, I was so cross, and had been reading toddler taming so decided to try time out, but the only place I could think of putting her safely was in her cot, (their bedroom door doesn't shut, and we haven't found a stairgate that will fit our stairs). This was probably a really stupid idea, but after a couple of minutes she went quiet and she apologised when I bought her downstairs. Today the same thing happened, and when I went in she was lying on her back in the cot looking at a book, happy as a lark, I think she was qite cross I'd disturbed her - am I doing this wrong!?

After singing the praises of my P+T the other day, i spent the whole morning moaning at mine, because a sharp eye-poking-out bit of metal has come out of the hood, and one the straps has started to come off-grrr.

Nice new name Fasterpussycatgrrl! Wish you could have gone to the toddler group I tried today, a lovely old lady bought me over a cup of coffee and a chocolate biscuit, and it seemed pretty friendly.

FasterPussyCatGrrrl · 05/03/2008 07:12

time out not really any good here either- DS1 gets put on the armchair, with a cross tone. have started asking him to say sorry aswell- he can't say it, so usually just says 'yeah' or kisses me or DS2.

took them to the park yesterday- DS1 took a tumble on the slide. Black eye and bloody nose Cheered him up with promises of 'baby' (Iggle Piggle) and milk. He seems fine now.

Dropping day time bottle from today [gulp] already dropped morning one without problem, but he likes it before a nap. Going to have to stay tough- he should be happy without it in a few days.

Potty training ok- nothing in potty yet, but he understands it's for wee, and pulls his 'pants' up and down. Only one accident- but on kitchen floor, so easily cleaned up.

staying in from the cold and playing / painting today.

Chaotica · 05/03/2008 17:58

LOL Hazeyjane and Supergrrrl (with relief, I think) -- none of us have any decent way of disciplining our toddlers (I'm not the only one! )

Actually, after the forlorn posting of yesterday, today has been lovely so far... Weather was nice so we went out for a long walk (which managed to include ducks, geese, swings, sand, walls to run along, steps to climb, molehills to jump on etc etc); DS was a happy(ish) baby and DD has been (almost) sweetness and light.

And even the 'almost' might be my fault, as our longer walks often include cake and this time I got some which might have been a bit sugar/additive heavy (the rest was all sold out ) which turned DD into a temporary hyperactive nutter...

...Of course, she might have been like that without the cake; I will never know, although I think I'll keep an eye on whether food makes her more stroppy and crazed... (The poor girl has such a good diet normally, I thought it was time to mess it up a bit...)

Anyway, she's napping now and nothing was broken (although she tried to insist on driving the car home ).

Chaotica · 05/03/2008 18:14

BTW Supergrrrl how did DS get on without his bottle? And I don't blame you for cutting out the playgroups by the sounds of them there are some unfriendly folk at ours but it would take a lot for me not to go as it has such amazing toys (government funded surestart thingmy, basically). So DD and DS would have to be having a terrible time too for me not to bother (I can always just hang out with the DCs).

FasterPussyCatGrrrl · 05/03/2008 20:02

bottle was fine! He was a miserable swine most of the day, but i think it's teeth / his black eye from the park. he only asked a couple of times, and i said no and ignored his whinging. He napped for an hour without it, so he's only having a last thing at night bottle now

my parents are visiting tomorrow
Hardly see them, but will be fleeting visit. They are looking for business premises closer to us. Desperately hope they get one- they rarely see DCs, and i rarely see my brothers.

Fingers crossed!

hazeyjane · 06/03/2008 09:03

Bad start to the day! Dd2 woke up with horrible eczema rash on her face, her sock had fallen off her hand (cheaper and better than scratch mitts!)and she had scratched her cheek really badly, the cat is ill and I keep on finding piles of cat puke (by stepping in it with bare feet first thing this morning), I have just flooded the bathroom and have used every towel in the house to try and soak it up, but it's like a sea in there - dd1 keeps going in and it's splashing over her feet - "mummee wellies" - oh god, and we're just going to yet another toddler group (I've become addicted, i think I'm a masochist). Hope the day improves, and you all have good ones.

FasterPussyCatGrrrl · 06/03/2008 11:47

bad start here too- i'm in an awful mood (contraceptive jab?) and have taken it out verbally on DS1. i feel disgusted with myself I have apologised, but i feel so low i convinced myself that when i dropped him at childminders and ran to play without saying bye (which he always does) that it's because he likes her more than me.

DS2 won't stop puking all the time- it's getting me down now. i spend all day covered in sick, and have to change his clothes 4 times a day. there's washing everywhere as a result

hope your day gets better hazey

Chaotica · 06/03/2008 12:15

Oh no! Hugs to all...

Logged on hoping for happy tales (like, yeah...) as disaster has struck here too. Woke up to DD whimpering a bit to find that she'd been massively sick (sometime in the night?) and hadn't even called for us. (Seems to have crawled out of bed with teddy in tow and gone to sleep in the play tent she has in her room ... Awww.) Gave her a bath -- she was sick in that too (sorry tmi) and then puked all over the living room . (How much washing can a woman do??) She only had the vomiting bug thing a week and a half ago and now she's sick with a temperature again. Now sleeping on the sofa while DS and I watch Beebies.

Might be going to the doctor's today rather than playgroup -- damn: I want to go to playgroup!

Hope your toddler group goes well, Hazeyjane. It's lovely weather here -- I'd love to get out of the house (further than the washing line, that is), but I don't think the doctor's will really cut it.

Chaotica · 06/03/2008 12:17

Sorry, FasterPussyCatGrrrl -- I keep calling you Supergrrrl by mistake. Can't think why!

FasterPussyCatGrrrl · 06/03/2008 13:30

oh Chaotica- poor DD! (and you!)

i'm stopping here briefly while eating my lunch as i've been dashing all over the house sorting washing, and had to hand wash all the dishes as dishwasher not cleaned them AND baked the food on

DS2 fell asleep in his pushchair after i popped to the post office, so he's (currently) asleep in the hallway. Trying to get as much done as i can as we having visitors.

hazeyjane · 06/03/2008 14:13

Oh Chaotica, you have all my sympathies, tummy things are the worst, and I feel like we're still trying to catch up with all the washing from the dd's being ill last week. Sick in the bath made the back of my knees go funny!

Sorry for your crappy day Faster..., hope it improves with your visitors.

Has everybody been scared away by whinginess? I hope not!

hazeyjane · 06/03/2008 14:16

By the way, my day has improved (hooray) met a really friendly woman at toddler group, and dd1 just did a drawing of dd2 and we've stuck it on the wall. (first time she's done a drawing of something). Bathroom floor is still a swamp, am destroying the environment by leaving the heater on all day in the hope it will dry out before dh comes home!

Chaotica · 06/03/2008 14:55

Hurry for your DD1's picture HJ -- it's brightened my day.

(Off to dr in a short while.)

Chaotica · 06/03/2008 14:56

See -- we don't always whinge. (forced)

FasterPussyCatGrrrl · 07/03/2008 10:30

hope your little one better Chaotica.

Is she in a bed then, rather than a cot? Can i ask, how do you know when they are ready for that?

SIL came for tea last night. She texted me afterwards asking if i ever needed anything etc to let her know- DH said i look so pale and down, and didn't eat any tea, she probably bit concerned. I think i'm still anaemic from my pregnancy tbh- covered in bruises for no apparent reason.

SIL suggested DS2 might have reflux yesterday too, as he puking so much. Does anyone know much about this?

hazeyjane · 07/03/2008 14:25

Thinking about a bed for our dd1 too.

Hope your lo is ok Chaotica

How old is Ds2 Faster..., also is he b'fed or f'fed?

FasterPussyCatGrrrl · 07/03/2008 14:28

Ds2 is just over 4mths, mainly breastfed, couple of formulas.
