I just wondered because a friend of mine had a lo with reflux, they found the Dr Brown's bottles helped, and because I was just about to throw some (hardly used) ones away, I wondered if you wanted them.

FasterPussyCatGrrrl · 07/03/2008 20:41

what are they / how are they different?

he didn't puke until this afternoon today, but i was trying to keep him still for a while after his feeds. i can't tell if he's upset about his tooth coming through, or maybe reflux?

Chaotica · 08/03/2008 00:21

Evening ladies.

Just back from the hospital -- DD was admitted yesterday and is still there for a second night with DP for company. She's had loads of tests and most things have been ruled out so they think she might have gastroenteritis. She seems a bit better this evening (even starting to misbehave) so I hope she'll be home tomorrow. Poor DD. (I could have stayed, but DS would have had to stay with me (which the hospital would have allowed) and although he's been a star for the last couple of days he's not too good at sleeping in the ward.)

Hope your DS2 doesn't have reflux, Faster... but it does sound like it might be if he's sick a lot. (DS has it as well). We tried Infant Gaviscon which made a bit of a difference (he still puked, but wasn't so moany with it -- you get it from the GP) and the other thing which made a difference was giving him acidophilus (sp?). Have to say, DS is still a rather sicky baby, but nowhere near as bad as he was without treatment.

Must go and sleep now... Hope y'all have a nice weekend.

Chaotica, sorry to hear about your dd, what a nightmare, I'm glad it sounds as though she is on the mend, I hope your hospital is as lovely with kids as the one we go to with dd2, it makes it loads better for them (although it's still pretty traumatic for us!), look after yourself.

Faster.., Dr Brown bottles have a wierd valve in them which means that the baby doesn't swallow any/as much air when feeding, I know they helped when dd1 had colic, so we got a couple for dd2, when we started bottlefeeding her, but as she didn't seem to have any wind, sickiness or colic we moved onto avent. I think they are recommended on the babyreflux website (we thought dd1 had reflux for a while), but they are expensive, so I thought you might like to try ours.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

FasterPussyCatGrrrl · 08/03/2008 09:46

that would be really kind hazeyjane- if you have a paypal account, i could send you postage costs?

hope your dd is better soon Chaotica I'd hate either of mine to be in hospital.

off to a new supermarket shortly (god my life is exciting!) and friend coming over when kids in bed for cheese / wine etc, so (hopefully) an easy day.

KaybeeandZak · 08/03/2008 21:04

Sorry to hear about your DD Chaotica. My friends little girl was in hosptial with gastroenteritis last year, as she was getting dehydrated etc. Luckily she was only in a night or two and was then much better.

My DS had reflux Faster (well thats what the doctors thought it was!). We used Dr Browns bottles too, but I was never sure whether they really did help or not. We also used Infant Gaviscon until he was about 9 or 10 months when it finally went. That def helped. It does improve heaps usually after they start on solids too, as it helps keep the milk down a bit. Very messy business - i got so sick of the constant changes of clothes (me and him) and sick everywhere! I have my fingers crossed that this next one won't have it......

Gemy · 09/03/2008 21:30

Hello everyone

Broadband back on - yay!

Been reading all your posts (so many!) and Chaotica hope all is getting better with your DD. Must be awful for you all. It's hard to see a little one ill isn't it? Not to mention your bus journey from hell...

Hazey we have the P&T doubles and never had any problems so far. And ours is the E3, I believe the new one is the sport? If you do have to order directly from P&T (we bought some accessories from there since Mothercare had nothing is stock - again!) they did take a while to arrive. But then was nearly 2 years ago.

Freya is adjusting to Izzy slowly but surely. She doesn't even batter an eyelid now, and blows her kisses at bedtime. Izzy is also going through a changeable patch. The whole of last week she slept through from 7pm til 6am next morning (with 1100 dreamfeed) and we were like high fiving and stuff. But, last night she woke at 3 and again at 6 and then again at 8.....just when you think you've cracked it

The housemove went well as can be expected. Freya loves her new room and exploring. Though she keeps going the wrong way upstairs (she ends up in the downstairs loo looking confused)

Well off to London for a big party on Tuesday (have been crying lots today at thought of leaving husband and girls) get a grip girl!

Anyway, welcome to anymore newbies and wave to everyone.

FasterPussyCatGrrrl · 10/03/2008 08:58

have fun Gemy.

Have had more problems with PIL on the weekend, so DH and i have decided that won't look after either of the boys from now on. (You might recall my complaints about them before)

DH thought it was ok for them to have DS1 as long as it wasn't overnight, so said they could come pick him up Sunday for a few hours. As he'd already said that, i let him go. They brought him back 15 mins late with no apology / explanation, and crap on his clothes. I saw it straight away, and step MIL said something like 'oh yes, he had a poo and got some on his vest, but it wasn't much' Like there's an 'ok' amount of crap to leave a toddler wearing?! And it was loads. I was so angry i had to go and sit upstairs because i was afriad i'd start an arguement. Have told DH that they aren't to have either of them at all from now on. They can arrange to visit, or we'll arrange to visit there.

Plus step MIL just came in and took DS2 out of my arms without asking, so he repaid her by screaming in her face

FIL seemed to be accusing me of not sorting DS2s eye aswell- he has a blocked tear duct, nothing they can do as his sight is fine and no infection. Seen a doctor 4 times, plus an eye specialist. He wanted to know why i didn't go see a pharmacist he knows, because he'd do something

Sorry for ranting- so, so mad at them for not taking care of kids and being rude to me.

Chaotica · 10/03/2008 10:28

Welcome back Gemy. And have fun.

Supergrrrl, I can't believe what your PIL did after you gave them another chance. Good work for screaming though DS2 (sometimes at that age babies can be so helpful with annoying relatives ).

DD came home on saturday, but she's still quite sick. (Currently lying on the sofa watching unlimited beebies while I try to get her to keep some food down.) Poor DD, she's so tired and frustrated I'm in for some monster tantrums today (storm force 11) and I can't really even think of taking them out for a break. (Hospital were lovely, but it's no place to get any sleep and get better poor DP was exhausted too.)

DD was glad to see her own bed though -- she moved into it a couple of weeks ago, Supergrrrl and she loves it (would go upstairs just to look at it ). We decided not to buy two cots and used the travel cot for DS when he outgrew the moses basket. Now he has DD's. DD tried a bed around xmas, and we decided it might make her less of a pain in the morning if she could get up and play in her own room instead of waiting for me or dp to rescue her. Don't know whether moving would suit all kids of her age though (my nephew didn't move till 2.6) and we have found her napping on the floor with Teddy a couple of times...

Chaotica · 10/03/2008 16:47

Where has my bossy, chatty rampaging vandal of a DD gone?? She's just not herself at all. She even needs me to lift her onto the sofa when usually I have a problem persuading her not to jump all over it. I hope she gets better soon.

Chaotica · 10/03/2008 21:39

How is your DD2 btw Hazeyjane? Have the hospital rescheduled her operation? It must be awful to have to go through that (upset as I am by DD, I do recognise that a lot of parents (and their children) are having a much worse time). (Unfortunately I met several at the weekend in our hospital alone.)

hazeyjane · 10/03/2008 22:20

Sorry to hear about your dd Chaotica, it's so horrible when they are ill, and really bad when you even start missing whinging and tantrums! Dd2 is ok, thanks, the lump has gone down quite a lot, so we're hoping that they'll decide that they don't have to operate, although i'd still like them to say definately what it is.

Fasterpussycatgrrl, sorry to have not got back sooner about the bottles, I've found one in the cupboard, with some unused teats, but when I asked dh if he had seen the bag with the others in he looked a little confused and worried (ie they may possibly have been chucked!) I'll have a look in our shed tomorrow, but if i can't see them I can stick the one I found in the post and you can try it (you never know, it might work!).Can understand the rant, BTW, you must have have been fuming.

Gemy, hello again, have fun you party animal!

Kaybee hello, glad that other people have reappeared, I've forgotten when are you due?

Chaotica · 11/03/2008 16:16

Glad to hear your dd2 is improving, Hazeyjane. My DD is much better today not quite well, but much improved and eating again, and I've packed her off to the cm for the afternoon so that I could go to the dentist. (Can you tell I'm talking strangely because of the anaesthetic?? (wobbly ))

Just remind me when she's in the middle of a wild tantrum what I said yesterday about wanting the wild toddler back.

Must run off and do a week's worth of housework before she's home. Top 2 under 2 tip from me as a result of this week is NEVER think that you'll have time to do something 'later' (I had so many plans and they're all kaput...)

KaybeeandZak · 11/03/2008 20:45

I am due 16th April hazey - only 5 weeks away yikes

Glad to hear your DD is improving Chaotica.

DS and I are both healthy at the moment, which is a very rare occurance. We have been sick with colds pretty much constantly since xmas. It's just so annoying! Fingers crossed it continues for a while

Chaotica · 12/03/2008 16:48

How exciting, Kaybee! DD was due on 16th april 2 years ago (needless to say she was late -- not unlike her mum). You must be exhausted - I found it harder keeping up with dd when I was pregnant than when I had a newborn.

katyt1 · 12/03/2008 18:31

evening all
(nearly) the end of day 3 out of 4 on my own with my 2. hooray! and it's the first time i've been on my own (ds2 7 wks!). so feeling pretty chuffed really. even tho we were all up at 5.30...

hope all LOs better/sleeping/over coughs and colds (both ds's have coughs here) and all mums still sane(-ish!).

FasterPussyCatGrrrl · 13/03/2008 07:37

Breastmilk really is a cure all- for 3 days DS2 has refused a bottle, so been totally breastfed. His eye cleared up overnight, and he's stopped puking (as much).

Taking DS2 into my office today, and DS1 off to childminders. Food shop being delivered this afternoon, might even get a chance to put some washing away!

Hope everyone is well and happy

Chaotica · 13/03/2008 11:54

Glad your DS2's eye is better, Faster. We're almost back to normal here too (except that DD seems to be making up for a week of not eating... ). How is your anti-processed food challenge going, BTW? (we don't eat that much rubbish round here, but I read the other thread in awe...)

Well done, Katyt1 for managing on your own -- I've only done 24 hours on my own so far (and even that fills me with fear ).

Off to playgroup later...

katyt1 · 13/03/2008 13:06

thanks chaotics, feeling pretty proud of myself actually, been on my own since monday morning, haven't lost it with ds1 once and even managed to walk (first trip out with double buggy) to playgroup this morning.
going to walk tomorrow as well, forcing myself to wear new size 16 jeans to remind myself that i have to lose some weight/fat/inches and i am determined (well for today anyway!) to walk more. it's hard work pushing a double buggy compared to a single but i suppose i'll get used to it. (still trying to buy a second hand p&t on ebay but no luck yet)

hope your playgroup was good - i thought of some of your experiences this morning when a new mum came in - my usual crowd wasn't in yet - so i chatted to her and sat next to her at coffee time so she wasn't on her own. good deed for the day .

faster - well done with the eye. how was showing off ds2 in the office? your PIL sounds like a right PITA atm. mine are lovely thank god. and they are coming for a week next week, hooray! (never thought i would hear myself saying these things!!!)

gemy - at yours and others p&t, I WANT ONE

FasterPussyCatGrrrl · 13/03/2008 15:18

well done katyt1- wish you were at my playgroup!

DS2 was an angel- grinning for everyone and getting passed round for kisses and hugs. Everyone remarked how big he is- almost 18lbs at 4.5mths! (he is tall too though, so not a total porker!)Was missing DS1 so much i stopped at CMs house on the way home to see if i could have him early, but she was out.

Everyone said how slim i looked too, which is always nice to hear. i'm going back in July...3 days a week. Really looking forward to it mostly, although apprehensive about DS2 being happy elsewhere. we'll see!

glad to hear your little one scoffing again Chaotica!

Chaotica · 13/03/2008 18:14

Yes -- nice one, Katyt1. You've read enough on this thread about playgroups to do the right thing .

(Don't you like the way that on this thread we all ignore the bad behaviour and praise the good )

Just went to our playgroup -- it's way better than ones I've heard about here (but still fairly cliquey, I think, at times).

Must go: both DCs have decided to demand attention at the same moment...

Gemy · 13/03/2008 20:15

Hello everyone!

Really glad to hear your DD is well on the read to recovery Chaotica. And summer is just around the corner so lots for you to look forward to.

Tuesday was really excellent. BUT, I got totally drunk, smoked marlborough lights like I was 18 again and even ended up having a kebab. Needless to say, felt like S%it on Wednesday and only just feeling normal again now. Why do hangovers suddently last forever when you are over 25??!!

Izzy back sleeping through even though she has a cold and Freya glad to have mummy back (though she was a bit pissed off with me)

It was great to see everyone from work and invite all and sundry to my official leaving party in August (and in my drunken state I mean invited all those people who I usually can't stand - lets hope they were too drunk to remember my invitation )

Good luck with your foot stamping Katy, I'm sure your DH will cave soon enough - tell him about all the mountain walking you can do with it - men usually like that stuff

xxx

KaybeeandZak · 13/03/2008 20:20

Yeah thats really sweet of you Katyt1, I bet the new mum really appreciated it.

DS had his MMR injection today and didn't cry and then had another injection in the other thigh and still didn't cry My brave little soldier. Think I was closer to tears than he was - I hate taking him to have them done!!

Now i am going to spend the next few weeks worrying about him in case he has some horrible reaction to it......

Chaotica · 14/03/2008 17:58

Aaaaargh. Day started badly here. DD was up an hour early and DS joined her (cue: tired mummy), and after he'd shouted for 2 hours (for he shouts rather than cries) I just lost it and shouted back. Poor wee lad isn't even 6m yet; and he's teething; and he's just discovered separation anxiety. and (at myself). I'm a total cow and a horrible mother, and it was worse because DD was there and she'll remember (whereas DS might recover from this...)

Anyway, delivered DD to childminder's and when ds was still shouty (after calpol, b-feeding, cuddles, toys etc) I decided that waiting until 6m to wean him was stupid and pointless so I propped him on the sofa and cracked open the baby rice...

(We didn't wait that long with DD, but she was always more obviously hungry and much better at sitting up.)

...And now he's a much happier little guy (he even grabbed the spoon and started feeding himself -- does that count as blw??) Think he'd have managed some toast and biscuit for afters if I'd have given him the chance...

It would be nice if he slept longer tonight (but I don't want to hope for too much.)

katyt1 · 14/03/2008 19:56

yep, still feeling pretty virtuous about my good deed yesterday, even did another one today! (wet) nappy on pavement yesterday still there today, so got nappy bag out of my bag and picked it up and put in bin.
(hope no-one thought it was mine that i had dropped in the first place tho

chaotica - sounds like you have done exactly the right thing for ds, and we'll have none of that 'horrible mother' talk on here will we ladies, we've all been there/or will be. we all do the best we can. and anyway sure dd won't remember for long.
ds grabbing the spoon - think that's the best reassurance you can have that he's ready!!
sure we will all 'wean' somewhat differently with no2, less homecooking, pureeing (sp?), spoonfeeding, etc. looking forward to just chucking the stuff on the table and both of them getting on with it!
hope he does sleep longer.
ds1 is on an early wake-up plan here, 5.30x2 and 5.50 today. great.

kaybee (sorry got your name wrong last time!) - good luck re the mmr, i found last time that ds & his friends had various minor reactions to it, more like teething/being 'off' and grumpy than anything severe. best of luck for ds

can't believe that ds2 is already nearing the jabs treadmill, meant to start next week but hv said to wait if he still has sniffle & cough.

gemy - a hangover what's that??!!?!
think dh is starting to cave....we are in essex, not many mountains about

faster - glad work trip went well. think we shd all make it a resolution to praise new mums figures! can't praise mine just yet tho
tho did walk again this morning, hooray! as soon as i started i could feel yesterday's efforts in my arms - gawd i'm so unfit!

also took boys to park this afternoon, anyone else have such a nice day today, felt like the 'first day out' of the year, hooray for spring! not that it's meant to last long but hey. carried ds1 a bit too much but figure it will only be good for the arms

so, feeling pretty good today
helps that dh is back for ds1 duty all weekend.
