What are things you consider lazy parenting?

Not my monkey, not my circus.

I do think posts like these show how small minded & judgemental the op is though. Grin

I'm not generally a fan of castigating people for "lazy parenting" - most of the practices that are slated in those terms are perfectly reasonable. There's nothing wrong with not flogging yourself all the time.

The only parenting practice I genuinely believe is "lazy parenting" in a truly pernicious sense is smacking. It really is lazy, because it prioritises short-term gratification for an angry/vindictive parent over doing any real work to teach a child how and why to behave appropriately. I believe that parents who smack know they are doing harm, and that they are using a short-cut to desired behaviour which is for their own benefit rather than their child's. So that, to me, is "lazy parenting". Not using disposable nappies or giving kids sausage rolls or any of the other things people lose their minds about on MN.

I don't judge.

@MeMyCatsAndMyBooks Are you aware of the context behind the question? No.Therefore I think you're the judgemental and small minded one :)

In my peer group it’s the opposite people are absolutely devoted to their kids and give too much of themselves to parenting.

Quitelikeit · 17/02/2023 15:03

How is not my circus not my monkeys lazy parenting?!

I say that about my in-laws…..

Greensleeves · 17/02/2023 15:04

How the hell are people supposed to be "aware of the context" when you haven't posted it?

I'm sorry I replied in good faith now Confused

Parents who thinks their childs education is not their responsibility

Eastereggsboxedupready · 17/02/2023 15:35

The ones who let their dc stand in trolleys because presumably they can't be arsed to actually say no and explain it is dangerous and unhygienic..

Lol safer than them running riot in a shop. How's it unhygienic?!

KylieKangaroo · 17/02/2023 16:16

That's me then 😅

Zola1 · 17/02/2023 16:18

I've met kids through my job who didn't know how to wash themselves or use a knife and fork by the age of 10.. that might be something more significant than lazy though. Unless it's harming someone I prefer to mind my own business.

musicalgymball · 17/02/2023 16:19

My baby has a fluffy onesie that I love to put him in so he can sweep the floor when commando crawls 😂😂

He's winning at life right now

worklifebalancehelp · 17/02/2023 16:26

I'm sure the majority of parents have some aspects they believe (rightly or wrongly) makes them a lazy parent. My DC prob watch too much tv -is that lazy parenting? Either way, it doesn't define the type of parent I am on the whole.

GG1986 · 17/02/2023 16:36

Not cleaning your kids teeth, then expecting the NHS to fix them. It takes 2 minutes twice a day. I see the excuses at work everyday.

My lazy moments I let my 6 year old DD get my 3 year old ready for bed. (They love it)

Springintoabetterlife · 17/02/2023 16:46

Me this afternoon. Kid’s watching TV as soon as they have come home from school and they are having chicken nuggets for tea. There is nothing wrong with occasional being lazy.

MooseBreath · 17/02/2023 17:18

Expecting nursery and school to teach life skills like getting dressed, washing hands, and basic hygiene. Never reading a book with your child before they bring one home from school. Making excuses for poor behaviour when there haven't been any boundaries reinforced.

How can anyone be aware of the context behind your question when you haven't actually provided any?

GuyFawkesDay · 17/02/2023 17:27

The only ones I just are the ones who seem to leave parenting to school.

That's lazy.

You haven't provided any context.... we are not mystic megs.

Your question is pretty lazy 🤷🏻‍♀️

OMG I cannot wait until my (currently 3yo and 3mo) DC can do this 😅

@Eastereggsboxedupready You'd hate me then. DS (the 3yo) has so often fallen asleep in the car by the time we get to the supermarket I just dump him curl him up in the bottom of the trolley asleep and pile the shopping around him. I learned the hard way that if I put him in the seat when he's tired he'll just fall asleep sitting up and get a black eye from smacking his face on the trolley handle 🤷🏼‍♀️
