Chrissi Ladette ist nicht franzosisch - es is english. Eine Ladette ist eine Lad (a type of man who is a bit cheeky/drinks well/likes the girls) aber ist eine errrrrrrr girl. (Fraulein didn't really seem the right word)

My mum didn't I think learn russian, she's never mentioned it. She is abit older than yours (80 this year!) so maybe not. I will ask her next time.

So you were in the old 'east' germany then? Was it a big change for you when the wall came down? I know my auntie who lived there (still does) was a bit overwhelmed, she said she had not seen things like fresh grapes for years.

Yes grew up there and worked there.Used to be a gardener and florist but after the wall came down had to learn something new.
Well she´s right I never saw a coconut,cashew nuts,Basil-never heard of,no mectarines,only peaches,Anything exotic we did´nt know.Fruits like Strawberry and cherrys,peaches...we got only in Summer.For winter only cabbages ,brusslesp, caulifl.....and potato were left.No tomato´s I wonder how I could survive without tomato´s.
I´ve never seen or heared of pizza,in the 80´s.Tomatosauce-nope! We ate spagetti with-I don´t dare to say- Ketshup.
Apfelsinen,Bananen etc musstes Du manchmal 1 Stunde anstehen und dann waren sie 3 mann vor Dir alle.Eine Stunde für nichts.
Wir hatten einen Garten ( mein Opa),die meisten leute versuchten einen Gartn zu bekommen,war nicht einfach.
Du mustes bestimmte Regeln einhalten.Nur 5 oder 10 % Rasen,Gardenhouse nicht zu gross etc.

Hi Chrissi - das ist sehr interessant, die Garten und so weiter. Meine Mutter sind immer ins garten, sie hast nur eine kleine garten zu Hause, aber ist es gefuellt mit blumen. Sie hast auch eine 'allotment' - eine kleines Gemeinschaft feld, wohin sie gemuese sich kultivieren. Wen wir ihr besuch wir kommen zuruck mit vielle Gemuse ins Auto. Schmekt besser als die Gemuse ins supermarkt.

By the way I was reading a german book - one part said 'mir war kalt und ich war muede' - mir and ich in the same sentance! Deutsch ist sehrrrr schwerig!

Ich bin Englaenderin, und natuerlich finde ich Englisch viel einfacher als Deutsch (koennt Ihr bei meinem Deutsch sehen!) Aber trotzdem wuerde ich sagen, dass Deutsch als zweite Sprache gar nicht so schwierig wie Englisch ist.

Mein Vater sagte mir,das Ich ein Tätigkeitswort ist,aber wusste nicht das muede eine Tätigkeit ist.
Fragte eine befreundete Engländerin aber die erklärte mir nur ,,das ist so weil das ein Verb ist und dies ein.....
ICH HASSE GRAMMATIK!!!!!! ( kann mir einer sagen wie ich die eckigen Klammern schreiben kann)
Ich habe einen kleinen mini Garten den ich benutzen kann,obwohl er meinem Vermieter ( und seiner Tochter gehört die unter uns wohnt.) Finde es gut das ds( dear son??)sieht wie Dinge wachsen.( und was man macht wenn 1 Millionen Nacktschnecken((Ich liebe das wort SLUGS,you could´nt find a better word for them))unser mimibeet invasieren.
Ich habe Blumen ,Gemuese und Früchte zusammen,alles in einem Beet.Einen Teil in Blumenkästen weil slug Monster alles fressen und ds ein bischen Erdbeeren addicted ist.
Du brauchst ihn nie zu fragen welche Sorte Eis er will.
Ist auch sehr praktisch im Garten Kräuter zu suchen und soooo Romantisch, beim Sonnenuntergang (beste Zeit hab ich gehört)
Mein Mann kam eben nach hause .Hab ihn wegen der Klammern gefragt.Er ist ein Genie!!! Leider hatten meine geliebten Tomaten die letzten zwei Jahre Tomatenfaeule hatte( habe eben überlegt wie man fäule ohne ä schreibt.Ist richtig so sieht aber echt komisch aus.
Mir fiel gerade ein es heisst Ich war müde weil WAR ein Tätigkeitswort ist.Du tust etwas,war kommt von sein.

ladette,hi, was meinst Du mit das könnt ihr ja an meinem deutsch sehen.Perfektes Deutsch,Komma ,gross, klein Schreibung( ich hasse es) ,alles super .Man könnte denken Du wärst eine Deutsche.

Wie hast Du den Unterschied von mir und mich gelernt.Durch Grammatikalische Erklärung,(verb,( hüpfen) nicht vor 1.Person singular (ich) oder hast Du es anders gelernt?
Bei den Grammatikalischen Bezeichnungen hat mir immer der Kopf geraucht( wenn Du weist was ich meine)

Meaning my mother is always in her garden.
Sind you use always if there is more than one person, like Wir sind (we are) ,wir waren ( we were)
If it is only one person,i.e. your mother you say ist.

Meine Mutter ist im Garten

Manche Sachen musst Du auswendig lernen ,wie Sein und ist
Sie ist ,wir sind ....
Jetzt Erinere ich mich auch das ich das auch auswendig lernen musste.

Hi Chrissi - it must have been getting late when I wrote that (sind rather than ist) because i do know the diffence though I am struggling a bit with the grammar at the mo, I am concentrating on being able to read it - I said I find writing it really hard!I don't even know when to put in capital letters (I think it when something is 'real', touchable?) and I forget to put a -e after a letter that should be an umlaut. I suspect it changes the word completely if it doesn't have the unlaut? Honestly I don;t expect you to teach me German, but I do find it interesting. You are very good.
Ladette - you're english? And you don't find german hard? Did you live over there at all? Have you done exams in german? Your german is excellant. Really much better than mine!

Thought tonight in bed again ,at abot 2.30 in morning how to learn der die das.
Came up with a idea.
I would start with female things. All things that belong to you die Bluse ( your mostloved blouse) die Schuhe ( your most expensive shoes die Struempfe (maybe a nice lace pair..) Connect things with a memory.Then you start with your hubbys things then with your children things (das)
From every der die das 4 things at the start then start with rooms.Bathroom your things.etc .Schreibe hgeute abend have to dash, work,finish at 9.20 pm so will be late tonight

It's not strange to me to find "ich", "mich", und "mir" in the same sentence. Nominative, accusative, and dative - determined by the verbs or prepositions you are using. But I can't explain German grammar in one post! I used to have a really good basic German grammar reference book, but I lent it to someone and never got it back. I wish I could remember the name of it - it would really help you if you could get one. Will trawl a couple of sites and see if I can find it.
In German, all nouns start will a capital letter whereas in English, we only use caps for proper nouns. Also, when writing a letter/email to someone, I was taught always to start "you" (Du, Ihr, Sie) with a capital.

I did German at Uni (25+ years ago ) during which time I spent a year in Frankfurt. I don't use my German now so it's a bit rusty, although we did have 2 weeks in Germany last year which helped a bit.

Hi Laddette - gosh is everyone much better than me at grammar or what! I've got english 'A' level and thought I was ok at it...I understand the nouns begining with a capital now, although sometimes if I look in the dictionary it throws me a bit if there are 2 words the same, one with a capital and one without and usually 2 different meanings. How on earth can you figure out which meaning is relevent, after all you can't hear capitals!

Anyway I saw you one the other thread (the 30th birthday present one) and worked out that you must be as old young as me if you were in your teens in 1976! I remember it well.

Hi CaptainMummy, I was 14 in 1976!!! Can you give me an example of the words you have seen in dictionary both with a capital abd without? Could be that one is a verb and one a noun.

Am feeling a bit sorry for chrissi1 who opened this thread to try to find English speaking Mums in the Wiesbaden/Mainz area and we seem to have taken over. Should we start a "anyone want to learn German" thread?

i´m a general and psychiatric nurse but work in a nursinghome. I know in GB nurses like me don´t work in nursinghomes but for me it´s handy,besides it´s like beeing in a Inner medicine ward or in a psychiatric one ,sometimes!
No nightshifts,( would be a bit tricky with the little un).Before three years ,work finished at 8pm,but now you have til 9.20 sometimes,but no hard work from 8 pm on.

hi Chrissi, yes I work, part time but my job is fairly unique and like to protect my anonymity so don't want to say too much more. Supposed to be doing housework today,but thought I'd just see what is going on in MNworld.
