Hi, I've had M.E for the last 8 years and have good bits and bad bits with it.
I am resitting a module that I didn't manage to complete last year due to ill health and I'm nearly through it this year but my symptoms have kicked off again.

My ds is 4 and a gem.

i just wondered if there was anyone in a similar position..

Sam

I am not, but just wanted to say well done to you...it can't be easy!

PillockOfTheCommunity · 07/02/2008 18:57

I have Narcolepsy, which whilst it isn't the same does have some similarities.

I'm not studying at the moment but have been, and looking at options for September.

I think you're amazing to be attempting it even

meandthomas · 07/02/2008 19:05

Thank you for saying so

I had to go to the doctors today as I havent been coping very well the last few weeks in particular.
It's made me question myself - a lot!
It all seems like such an uphill battle, especially with deadlines looming.

I dont know what I'd be doing instead. I think thats the main reason I'm doing it!
Thank you for your support.
I've been on mumsnet for ages but rarely chat ( I'm shy!)

I think I'm more memorable since Califrau came up with this name for me!

Hmm, maybe I'll have to try and post more

Hi, can I join this please? I caught Glandular fever (wish it was through kissing!) over a year ago and I'm still feeling not quite right. I'm doing a MSc but my gp thinks I'm depressed (he says this whether I'm tired or have a sore throat) because I'm a single mum. I have told the uni I've probably got ME, my course leader is very helpful, I need to work part time to fund my course but often have days when I have problems getting out of bed. Feel drained and not quite with it. Joints ache, have stomach ache, it's not nice. I was training as a paediatric nurse when I got ill, I decided to leave because I didn't feel safe looking after the sick children. I'm getting really behind with my coursework, it's stressful.

PillockOfTheCommunity · 08/02/2008 00:34

you can join, but only if you let us come up with a more inventive name for you

juliet123 · 08/02/2008 00:38

Ok. Something unrude please. I can't believe this, I've been knackered for the past 3 weeks and now I can't sleep. What are you looking to do in september?

meandthomas · 08/02/2008 07:29

Can you give me a new name too PoC

Hi Juliet. Well done you working part time as well. There is no way I'd be able to manage that as well.
I'm lucky that I now have a really supportive doctor who agrees I'm not depressed, I dont have supportive tutors on the other hand who feel that because I'm not signed off sick that I must be completely well.Grr

Juliet, is your course full or part time?
How old is your ds/dd?

a friend of mine finished her PHd after a diagnosis of ME.

She still workd as an accademic.....very high work load, but has learned what her 'warning signs' are. When she gets one, she reduces her work load, and rests until she is feeling a little better.

Hope that things go well for you meandthomas

PillockOfTheCommunity · 08/02/2008 10:09

I work part-time as a PA so am looking to do a Business degree. I work in a finance department so my boss is quite keen for me to take the accountancy route but I'm not so sure!

meandthomas · 08/02/2008 10:19

Thank you MB. It helps knowing that other people manage

PoC My brother did a business course and is now looking at doing Att ( I think) some kind of accounting training. He struggled to find a niche with the business qualifications.
Whats leaving you undecided about the accountancy course?

My friend found that she was the expert in her own disease, IYSWIM. She learned what the triggers were for her 'worse' periods, and learned to read the signs her body was giving her that she needed to slow down.

Initially she found this very hard, as she was a very 'driven' lady who sets herself very high standards. But in the end she realised that it was a waste of time to 'push' too hard when she was getting ill, and that early rest would often stop the thing getting worse, and i the long term would save her much time and frustration.

PillockOfTheCommunity · 08/02/2008 10:24

It bores me!
and I have no intention of moving to that side of the business, I enjoy the admin side so Office Manager would suit me far better than Accountant

juliet123 · 08/02/2008 14:27

Hi, my son's 8 and a bit of a handful. He's really bright and can be draining. I do bits of sewing and repairs at home. It's really dull but helps financially. I'm doing a full time (supposto be full time) MSc in Environmental Management, my degree's in Law but I started a nursing course after finishing my degree (it's a long story, that's where I caught the virus. I feel a bit bad today. I've missed my lecture this morning, I couldn't sleep last night and woke up tired this morning. I sat down after dropping my son off at school and fell asleep. I'm not going to be able to get to sleep tonight now, I'm going round in circles. I want to see if I can d a PhD after but as I'm late handing work in I'm not sure they'll let me. I'm going to have to beg
