for potty trained children natch

if they have not been painting insanely/ running around in mud etc

if they are doing civilised indoor pursuits such as web surfing and jigsaws

Every couple of days but dd has been known to go 3 or 4 days but I do wash her in between and tie in with swimming. She's 4

ArmadilloDaMan · 30/01/2008 15:35

1-2 a week. Assuming they are not at puberty and that they are washing face etc on other nights.

I am a real slattern.

Ds isn't even potty trained yet.

i wash my DCs every night (mainly something to do ) but am slatternly about towels and bedlinen

StripeyMamaSpanx · 30/01/2008 15:40

Well we only have a shower, which dd (4.10) is terrified of, so I only make her go in it about once a fortnight. She has a bath every two months or so when she visits her dad.

Her hands/face/bum get washed at least once a day though.

I have to say she is not noticeably dirtier than any other kids we know, who are presumably immersed in water far more often

Lazycow · 30/01/2008 15:41

Ds gets a bath on Tues and Fri (one of those days I am home, the other I finish work early). Other week days we don't get in from his nursery unntil 6.15pm so I son't bother with a bath unless he is really filthy (never happened yet!!)

Weekends if there is time he may get a bath on one of those days as well. So 2-3 times a week here (MAXIMUM)

fryalot · 30/01/2008 15:42

they wash their hands/face/bums every day, but an actual bath happens when daddy can be bothered doing it.

Tis the only thing that is his job because it hurts my back too much to bend over the bath (funny shaped bath and awfully bad arthritis don't mix well) and because he likes doing it.

He seems to manage about three times a week, but sometimes it has been over a week.

Desiderata · 30/01/2008 15:45

DS is 3. I give him a bath if he asks for one, but I have never been a one for incessantly dipping him in the bath, especially as a little baby. I suppose he has one or two a week, now. He had one or two a month when he was tiny

Any more than that just seems like hassle heaped on hassle.

Minkus · 30/01/2008 15:55

DS is 3 and has once about once a week. And thats only because his hair starts to look rank otherwise

He doesn't smell- well he has his own smell of course but its def not a bad one!

legalalien · 30/01/2008 15:58

DS aged 3 - Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, with hairwashing (under duress) on Thursdays, Sundays and "days when you have custard in your hair" (long story)

PortAndLemon · 30/01/2008 15:58

DS (3) tends to have baths on days when DH has cycled to work and gets back before DS's bedtime (because they can both go in the tub together), or if MIL or one of my SILs is visiting (because they like giving him baths). That probably works out at once or possibly twice a week. If none of those applies then I'll persuade him to take a bath if he looks a bit grubby, but normally over a week would elapse before that happened.

indiechick · 30/01/2008 16:00

Oh thank you mumsnetters. I can't be bothered today and dd doesn't look that dirty!

Countingthegreyhairs · 30/01/2008 16:19

Twice a week (4yr dd) but top and tail every day or more. Used to bath every night but paediatrician said it was making her skin too dry so I stopped! She doesn't smell/look any different tbh ...

sparklesandwine · 30/01/2008 16:40

lol reading this thread

makes me think mine could do with less

I shower and hair wash all 4 Sundays, tuesdays and thursdays

although DS3 does get very dirty somehow during the day and usually has one evry night - i'm still trying to keep him cleaner using the 'indoor' pursuits you have mentioned Cappuccino but never works for me!

Oh and they also shower after swimming on saturdays.....

......far too clean.....

mylittlepudding · 30/01/2008 16:44

Depends how much of her dinner she has put in her hair....

hotmama · 30/01/2008 16:45

Thank god, I am not the only one that doesn't do extreme bathing!

Sunday and Wednesday in this house (was the same for me when I was growing up).

Otherwise, they get their faces washed and teeth cleaned and nether regions wiped.

They are fragrant children - in a good way.

cory · 30/01/2008 16:45

Once a week is fine until preteens.

Wisteria · 30/01/2008 16:48

Hair once a week, bodies twice probably unless they were particularly dirty.

We used to use the 'Baby wipe' school of bathing

tasjaSAmuminUK · 30/01/2008 16:48

are you ladies serious?

TheFallenMadonna · 30/01/2008 16:49

Sundays and Wednesdays here too. Plus topping and tailing daily of course.

TheFallenMadonna · 30/01/2008 16:50

Quite, quite serious...

Are you ignoring the "idle slatterns only" request?

Wisteria · 30/01/2008 16:50

Yeeeeesssss why?

doggiesayswoof · 30/01/2008 16:52

Dd is 3
Bath 3 x per week.
Hair washed every 2nd bath (ie about every 4th night...)

This slips sometimes to 2 baths a week if dd is tired/if I can't be arsed.

The only thing that gets v dirty are her fingernails - so they usually get a wee scrub before bed every night.

Glammama · 30/01/2008 16:53

Hair washing once a week, bath 2 or 3 times a week, top and tail morning and night. Otherwise, too much water wasted and her skin gets dry too.

doggiesayswoof · 30/01/2008 16:54

Wisteria, we still have a packet of baby wipes stashed away for those "too tired for a bath" moments. I'd much rather have an extra story and cuddle.
