for potty trained children natch

if they have not been painting insanely/ running around in mud etc

if they are doing civilised indoor pursuits such as web surfing and jigsaws

I bath my 4 girls aged 2,4,6 and 8 once a week every Sunday night as an unwritten rule. The little 2 more often if they have accidents.

Octothechildherder · 30/01/2008 22:09

sunday is child care primer night

nits, nails and hair wash

Eulalia · 30/01/2008 22:10

ds1 aged 8 doesn't like washing much so may go up to a week before having a bath.

dd - age 5 about twice a week although may jump in bath with ds2 as they like to play together.

ds2 - age 2.5 every couple of days as he is currently potty training and obviously bottom cleaned several times a day.

Me - every 2/3 days.

dh - once a week bath/shower or longer if he could get away with it but does 'important' bits more often.

So glad I've read this. DS used to get bathed every night. Until he took a hatred for it. And then DD came along. And now they get bathed every few days when we manage to fit it in and cope with the tantrums! It's actually better for their eczema to go a few days without... But I've always been terrified to admit they're not bathed every night. Hell, they don't even have their hands and faces done every night!

funnypeculiar · 30/01/2008 22:14

Every day here (2 & 4). But like ladette, not from any intentions towards tidyness/cleanliness, just a nice bedtime habit (and dh's responsibilty whilst I have a quiet cuppa

I really do think winkles and penny slots should be washed every day. Even if its just a swipe with a damp flannel. Hope no one is offended by my use of the proper medical terms there.

I tend to bath my 4 everynight especially on a school nite, i occasionally let it go on a fri or sat nite if i've been 2 work and have a night out planned with friends, i generally don't have time to bath them all then, although ds1 can bath himself now and dd1 can almost manage on own, needs help with hair washing and drying!!! I try to have 1 everynight but sometimes too tired and will get 1 after school run...i can't help it thats just the way i was brought up, there were 7 of us and we all used to bath everynight and morning...i do think that is bit much, once a night will do fine!!Mine 9,6,5 & 2!! Each to there own, aslong as they are clean who cares how often they bath!!

Piffle · 30/01/2008 22:22

dd is 5. She gets one full bath on Sundays along with ds2. He is 10 mths. Ds1 is 13 and showers every 2nd day at least. More in summer. Ditto dd. Dd gets a strip wash most nights or sink bath midweek if needed. I sometimes plonk ds2 in the bath with me. But that's for fun and to ensure I get a wash occasionally

BITCAT · 30/01/2008 22:22

Same as funnypeculiar just a bedtime routine that has always been there from when i was a kid

Brangelina · 30/01/2008 22:26

Once a week, and we don't do wipes in this house either. I'll sometimes sponge her bum down with water and a bit of almond oil but that's really about it. When she was tiny I used to bath her in the baby bath pretty much every day, but that was when it had a soporific effect so was worthwhile. Now that has worn off I can't be bothered, small children don't smell and in my defence our bathtub is a bit like Snappy's size wise, so I'm saving the planet really (that, and not using those extremely environmentally unsound things that are wipes)

Teeth and face get washed twice a day of course and hands after every visit to the loo/before meals etc.

Piffle · 30/01/2008 22:31

never used wipes. With ds1 could not afford them. Dd has very sensitive skin so could not use them, with ds2 have never even considered it. Best thing with our hygiene routine as outlined below... Dd never gets nits as only wash her hair once a week. Ds2 has never had cradle cap and remains untouched by soap or shampoo. and by Christ he smells edible

mehdismummy · 30/01/2008 22:38

snappy i am on my way round to your house! you truly have the dogs gonads of a bath. I would be in that all day every day! Ds loves loves baths so he has one every night. Its also part of his routine and a special time for him and his daddy,
