Do your babies sleep through

Trying to prove a point to DH. We have our first baby who has never slept through in his whole 5 nearly 6 months of life. He’s currently sleeping worse than ever so I’m very tired as he only wants mummy despite daddy trying to settle him

after another bad night, DH turns to me and says “I wish he’d sleep for you” I say “he’s a baby” and then he says “don’t babies sleep through at this age?”

I don’t have any babies in my family and my friends don’t so it’s the first baby in my life but I know for a fact babies don’t all sleep through at this age! It’s the first baby in his life too but someone in his work made a comment about their babies all sleeping through by 4 months (bollocks I say) so then he asked me that question

SO - do your babies sleep through? What age are they?

(also if you have any tips regarding our baby waking up for settling hourly I will take them😩)

Do your babies sleep through? - ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

Mine are 3 and 5 and I'm still waiting for them to sleep through!

The latter of babies do not sleep through from a young age and have several regressions in the first couple of years. I believe it's 4,6,9,12,18,24 months as an average for regressions.

Suggest your DH reads the sleep boards on here and he might get a better idea of what's 'normal'. I'd also suggest you post there for tips and support with sleep.

@BeeEllEyePeePeeEye thank you I didn’t know there was a specific sleep board I’ll definitely be having a look today!

Absolutely not and he didn't until he was about 2.

My husband is the same "well so &so's baby sleeps through". So annoying.
She's 15months and has slept through once. Generally only one or twice a night but it is sometimes worse. At 6 months if they sleep through I'd say you were very lucky!

ChunkyWallabe · 01/06/2022 07:58

7 months for first. 13 months for second.

thingymaboob · 01/06/2022 07:58

Sounds like the 4 month sleep regression

Flopisfatteningbingforchristmas · 01/06/2022 08:00

Nope. My baby will be 3 yrs olds soon.

DD2 starting sleeping through about 2 1/2 yrs. DD1 did for a few weeks after she turned 2.

Cosleeping and white noise are my only sleeping tips.

collieresponder88 · 01/06/2022 08:00

Mine slept really well from around 4 months till their first birthday when it all went pear shaped till 2nd birthday !

Floorandflooringme · 01/06/2022 08:01

Consistently sleeping through Dc1 was 18 months, dt were 7 months did nothing different just different dc.

LittleFeet178 · 01/06/2022 08:01

Mine first slept through at about 8 weeks. Regressed a few times and then reliably slept through every night from about 9 months.

All babies are different. My cousin had a baby that slept through reliably from 7 weeks, never heard a peep out of her again. Had a second one and he didn't sleep for about 2 years! She always said if they'd been the other way around he would have been an only child 🤣

pbdr · 01/06/2022 08:01

My 7.5 month old wakes around 5-6 times per night still. She has slept through on one wonderful, inexplicable occasion and was back to her usual self the following night.

Theresamagicalplace · 01/06/2022 08:02

18 months and I slept on the bedroom floor last night because it was easier than getting up every 20 minutes! Some babies sleep through early, they are unicorns (and a friend has had 2 unicorns. I'm very jealous haha)

PeaceLily2000 · 01/06/2022 08:08

My baby has slept through from 8 weeks but this is sheer luck, I didn't do anything, she just stopped waking to be fed. That's to say that's it's just luck of the draw sometimes, some babies sleep and some don't.
I'm well aware that teething or regressions will change my baby's sleep so not assuming this will last!

EvergreenForest · 01/06/2022 08:10

My first was 7 months BUT I did gentle sleep training to get him there!

My four month old is quite chilled and will often sleep til 5 but then needs a top up feed.

But in my NCT circle only my baby slept through at 7 months, some are still waking 3 times at 2.5 years.

I don't think there is a normal really!

TheVolturi · 01/06/2022 08:12

I have 3. Not babies now, but nope, none of them ever slept through. Ever. Eldest is 9 years old now and still can't /won't sleep. Youngest is 5 and wakes every night. Middle child THANK THE GODS sleeps through.

SuddenArborealStop · 01/06/2022 08:13

As soon as my 2 year old figured out to stay asleep my 4 year old decided to forget how... I have never been more jealous in my life than of my best friend who had genuine good sleepers , the sleep deprivation is torture

bobbythevet · 01/06/2022 08:13

Mine wakes up at 4, then is up for the day at 5/6 :(

HappyGoDucky · 01/06/2022 08:14

DD only woke once a night between leaving hospital and 4 weeks old. From 4 weeks old she slept through from 8pm-8am.

Sounds like bliss? Well....my toddler (15 months older than DD) had me up multiple times through the night until he was 20 months old. Grrrrr 😂

They are teens now and sleep for days....

shivawn · 01/06/2022 08:15

My 7.5 month old has slept through twice in the last week! He had never done this in his life before last week. We sleep trained for bedtime at 6 months which helped massively, he was waking every 1-2 hours before that, but we still had 2 nightfeeds every night until recently.

Kindofcrunchy · 01/06/2022 08:15

Yep! Slept through about 2 months old (was a bit of a shock!) and still does at 2.5y, bar the odd illness and regression. Still exhausted though!

Ringmaster27 · 01/06/2022 08:15

My 2 and a half year old has slept through once in her entire life.
middle one didn’t sleep through until he was 4.
eldest slept through at 18 months.

AliceW89 · 01/06/2022 08:15

6 months was the worst sleep for us by a long stretch. It was never, ever good but at 6 months he woke every 1.5 hours without fail.

We had a few weeks of sleeping through at ~ 10 months after night weaning. But the 12 month regression absolutely kicked our a*ses and we were back to 3-4 wake ups a night. Consistently sleeping though was about 14 months. I’d say that was relatively average in my antenatal group. Some slept through at 2 months and some aren’t sleeping through now at 2 years.

Fupoffyagrasshole · 01/06/2022 08:16

Mine started sleeping through at 13 months

tokyotea · 01/06/2022 08:16

The first time DC slept through was at 18mo....

mia2201 · 01/06/2022 08:17

Almost 7 months.wakes up twice to be fed. Slept through twice. It never crossed my mind to even start dreaming of unbroken sleep yet, I don't think it will happen soon and I made peace with it.
