Do your babies sleep through

Trying to prove a point to DH. We have our first baby who has never slept through in his whole 5 nearly 6 months of life. He’s currently sleeping worse than ever so I’m very tired as he only wants mummy despite daddy trying to settle him

after another bad night, DH turns to me and says “I wish he’d sleep for you” I say “he’s a baby” and then he says “don’t babies sleep through at this age?”

I don’t have any babies in my family and my friends don’t so it’s the first baby in my life but I know for a fact babies don’t all sleep through at this age! It’s the first baby in his life too but someone in his work made a comment about their babies all sleeping through by 4 months (bollocks I say) so then he asked me that question

SO - do your babies sleep through? What age are they?

(also if you have any tips regarding our baby waking up for settling hourly I will take them😩)

My first slept through (as in 7-7) at 8 weeks, but required a dreamfeed to make it, that dropped at 6 months. My second didn’t need the dreamfeed but typically needed a very quick dummy replace at around 3am until he learned to do it himself at 6.5 months. It’s weird that you think it’s bollocks his work colleague’s baby sleeps through at 4 months old, they’re all different and there is no normal. Personally, I had a baby that was more than 6MOs and still waking frequently I’d be sleep training, but of course that’s not for everyone.

I think the research suggests that most babies do sleep through by a year and many by 6 months. E.g.

www.sleepfoundation.org/baby-sleep/when-do-babies-sleep-through-night#:~:text=Most%20babies%20sleep%20through%20the,than%2028%25%20by%2012%20months.

Mine didn't until I sleep trained at around 9/10 months but most people I know had babies who slept through earlier.

Yes and no, our daughter wakes for a feed, but generally once she has had a feed and a bum change she settles well and goes to sleep fairly quickly and easily.

My first slept through from seven weeks. My second is two and a half and rarely fully sleeps through, although it's been a lot more manageable for the last few months

You did see lower down that they define sleeping through as a stretch of six hours? Totally pointless... I have absolutely no idea when my kids did that as it wasn't a milestone I thought to note down Confused it certainly doesn't constitute sleeping through in my book.

3 months for us, quite a few of our friends have been the same too.,

luxxlisbon · 03/06/2022 19:51

Slept through about 11ish hours at about 7 months, then a teething episode and illness back to back and then returned to sleeping 12/ sometimes 13 hrs at 9 months.

She’s still a baby so obviously she doesn’t sleep through every single time but it’s rare for a wake up.
No night feeds from 7 months.

Have two my first I thought I had it sorted slept through at 9 weeks until he had hand, foot and mouth at 8 months and had a couple of months wobbles then slept through again. My second took till he was 14 months and that was with a little sleep training and that's when I realised I really sis t have it 'sorted' when it comes to sleep!!

ecnatsid · 03/06/2022 19:59

My eldest did from 8 months. Prior that he "mostly" did.

My youngest .... he doesn't know what sleep is, let alone sleeping through Sad

Charl881 · 03/06/2022 21:24

My DS started sleeping through at around 11/12 months but not consistently until almost 2.

I remember 6 months being a tough stage, hang in there.

Our boy has slept through since 4 months old, apart from when he’s had his jabs or has a cold. We feel very lucky as the first few months were actual hell with colic. From what I gather based on friends with babies and baby groups, we are unusual.

he is formula fed, has a bath and bottle at 7pm every night and then doesn’t wake until 6-6.30am

Cafeaulait27 · 03/06/2022 21:38

We’ve also never had a sleep regression either. I was really worried about that but it never happened. They are all different, I know one that slept through from 8 weeks but a lot of others are more hit and miss. The ones that struggle the most seem to be breastfed but no idea if that’s just coincidence
