I'm starting A200 which is History from 1400 - 1900. I know that Rosa did this one last year so I'm hoping to be seeing lots of her this year

What's everyone else doing?

I'm doing DD307 - Social Psychology (hello there Tellusmater) plus ED209 - Child Development. This of course means that I will have no life whatsoever outside of the OU for the next 9 months.

agnesnitt · 16/01/2008 16:20

Well, the website is saying I'm registered, but there's no date set for materials to be despatched! Have a couple of the set texts that I've bought, the rest are en route. I need the stuff!

OH

MY

Just look at the chuffing great pile of stuff I have to plough through.......

Impressed by all the nice files/CDs / dividers etc- you get ALL the gear don't you!!?

When does the portable brain come?

SeaShells · 16/01/2008 17:00

Hi all, I'm also doing A217. Eagerly awaiting my course materials, desperate to get started now.

agnesnitt · 16/01/2008 18:00

Maybe us 217 types will bump into each other on the course site? It opened today. Forum takeover anyone?

It comes on a trolley Bossy.. by Parcel Force Often arrives a long time after the course materials though..

ETsmum · 16/01/2008 22:20

Shiny From my relatively limited knowledge of L3, yes, 2-3 tutorials seems to be about the norm...I don't normaly get to them anyway as live in Guernsey and travelling is a bit of a pita. Found the assignments okish, it was the exam that let me down - I think it was me rather than the exam though iykwim?

As an aside, I GOT MY BOOKS for KE312 and it looks really good (can't believe I still get so excited about the brown parcels...)

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 16/01/2008 22:43

You passed though ET? That's all that matters!

Yes I love the brown parcels too.. and breathing in all the smells of new paper It took me almost to the end of my first year of study to make myself write on them like everyone else in my tutor group was doing!!

I have to say though, it's my stationery fetish that gets me so excited about the parcels though (as documented in other threads!) rather than the contents of the course books themsevles!

bossybritches · 16/01/2008 23:10

Yes that's it!! I knew there was a reason I signed up!!! (love THAT thread)

Lawdy I'll need a new bbokcase soon to put all the "stuff" on......

...anders off clutching the "Viking "catalogue to her chest.

agnesnitt · 18/01/2008 19:26

I finally got my course materials though Am I done with parcels? Some of you are talking about folders and stuff, and I just got some books and study guides etc.

I hate being a n00b!

Agnes I think some courses are more assignment/project led & require more input than others hence the folders.

still awaiting the OU brain though!!

yetanothername · 19/01/2008 15:44

Yay agnes!

This is my third course and I've never received folders, just depends on the type of course I assume.

MarsLady · 19/01/2008 15:48

My creative writing. Well I got 70% for the first TMA. Am just finishing the second one and then I have to get stuck into poetry. Not sure how I feel about that. I don't write poetry and I'm not keen on the

I'm a poet
Don't I know it
See how I show it

style. Sigh......

Just waiting for my lovely French course material to arrive.

sfxmum · 19/01/2008 15:50

I will be doing a tiny one just to get me going again 'understanding management' and to keep up my skills while being SAHM

Yes I passed Shiny and must really stop beating mself up about the grade as there is sod all I can do about it now

Shiny you and I seem very alike in some ways I have been sniffing my new textbook for days now - do you havv the same trouble in bookshops? I have a theory that there is something in the smell that makes me want to buy books.... I have however got used to smothering my study texts in orange highlighter. Stationary is lovely though, isn't it? Nothing wrong with that fetish!

agnesnitt · 19/01/2008 21:21

I have always had a stationery fetish, and passed it on to my four year old. We both have secret stashes of pens etc. and get very aggrieved if somebody snaffles any of the stash.

Also, the new books thing? I think it's a pheromone that they impregnate the pages with, maybe even in the ink. It makes us feel so good that we have to take the book home to continue to happy feeling...

ETsmum · 19/01/2008 21:40

Oh no Agnesnitt, you made me realise that MY 4 yo has a great big pile of notebooks that can't be disturbed....what have I done?

agnesnitt · 19/01/2008 22:23

You've spread the love. Now go buy some more so your pile is bigger and more shiny

My daughter and I don't compete too much, she has her Doctor Who stuff, I have sensible stuff. We only argue over the Hello Kitty pretties

Agnes

bossybritches · 20/01/2008 08:15

snigger at fellow stationery addicts

agnesnitt · 20/01/2008 14:41

Got to be having love for the pens, paper, and silly sparkly things that don't actually do anything but are entirely necessary no matter what your shopping companion says

Agnes

bossybritches · 20/01/2008 15:37

You mean like the stationery stacker I have that's full of lots of LOVELYcardsneccessary items from the wonderful phoenix catalogue??

ooh sorry have I turned this into another paper fetishists thread??!!

agnesnitt · 20/01/2008 16:00

As students it is our sworn duty to have as much relevant stuff available to procrastinate with. This way, if people try to check up on us, it always looks as though we're working, when in fact we're just petting the pretties
