And how old are they?

Just curious

When I was young i had a bath once a week on a Sunday at school age until I was old enough to shower independently.

My 4 week old has had one proper bath but is wiped down with cotton wool as and when needed

How often are you bathing your kids?

4 year old, twice a week. She also has a shower after swimming twice a week. Wash her face with a flannel in the morning and before bed. She washes her hands multiple times a day so doesn’t have disgusting nails. And if her ears looked waxy I’d clean them, it’s not something I do in the bath unless they are. She doesn’t smell. She also doesn’t have excema or dry skin as a result of over bathing. A bath every day is not necessary for most children. Do or don’t do, it doesn’t make you a better parent.

Just because they aren’t bathed every night, doesn’t mean they aren’t washed in between.

Ds averages 2-3 times in bath per week. He’s nearly 2.
But he gets fresh hot water and baby soap, with flannels to clean his butt at every change (5/6 times per day). His face and hands gets washed with flannels after every meal and snack (3/4 times per day). He plays in the garden and gets hands washed with soap when we come inside. We go swimming sometimes.
Just because they aren’t literally in the bath every day, doesn’t mean they have filthy nails.
If he needed bathing every night he would have one.

Quite the range of answers! Interesting to read the range of views...

Before puberty I don't think any child is going to be smelling because of body odour...

Just follow NHS guidance 🤷‍♀️

Ragwort · 16/03/2022 18:35

My DS is 21 now so I don't dictate his washing habits Grin but he always had a bath every day ...... just because he loved a bath ... even as a teenager and when he's home from Uni he will have a bath every night.

luxxlisbon · 16/03/2022 18:35

Bathed pretty much every day for she was a few days old.

I was also bathed every day from a baby.

I personally don’t think once a week is enough from 6 months old really. They get so grubby from eating, playing and generally just running around.

Rinatinabina · 16/03/2022 18:36

2 and everyday, its part of her bedtime routine and we also live in a hot dusty place so she’s pretty grubby.

Ringmaster27 · 16/03/2022 18:39

I’ve recently started showering my kids (6, 5, 2) to save both time and hot water. Every other day does the job, unless they are absolutely filthy or the youngest has ended up wearing most of her dinner Grin

BridgetJonesDaiquiri · 16/03/2022 18:39

Every other night for our 2 and 4 year old

Rinatinabina · 16/03/2022 18:40

@Rewritethestars1

8 and 4 year old one or twice per week. I Wadhurst their hair once or twice a month.
I would never normally comment on how anyone else raises their kids but that seems neglectful, unless they have a skin condition or something. Why not wash their hair at the same time as their bath?
JellybeansJelly · 16/03/2022 18:41

@Rinatinabina Maybe not everyone has the same hair texture?

Pinkflipflop85 · 16/03/2022 18:43

Is it too much of a stretch to consider that not everyone needs to treat their hair in the same way as you... 🤔

PanettoneMoly · 16/03/2022 18:45

20 month old. Every day, it’s part of our evening routine plus she smells of nursery Confused

But I only have the one, it might be a different answer if there were multiple offspring requiring a wash periodically.

Rinatinabina · 16/03/2022 18:45

Ok good point, I’ll re-think my assumption on that

Rinatinabina · 16/03/2022 18:46

Thats was @JellybeansJelly

Leggingslife · 16/03/2022 18:46

3 yr old. Bath nightly. Hair wash every other day.

makinganavalon · 16/03/2022 18:47

Nightly especially in summer but mainly because I live in the Highlands and am obsessed over ticks so I do a tick check every night in the shower. Xx

Rosesareyellow · 16/03/2022 18:50

2 or 3 times a week generally or as needed if they’ve been getting muddy outside or had an accident obviously.
Once they are older I think it’s time to shower daily, depends on hormones I guess and how sweaty they are. I wouldn’t encourage daily baths at any age, I personally think it’s a waste of gas and water 🤷‍♀️

No wonder so many children have dirty, waxy ears and long, dirty finger nails.

Because you need a to be in a bath to use cotton buds and a pair of nail clippers Confused

Trinacham · 16/03/2022 18:51

Twice a week. He's nearly 8 weeks old

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 16/03/2022 18:52

They're 8 and 10 and shower every other day on winter and normally everyday in the summer if they're sweaty or dirty. Unless we're camping.. then I struggle to get them to wash their hands 🤣

Nomad916 · 16/03/2022 18:55

Age 10. Every day since baby.

MyDcAreMarvel · 16/03/2022 18:57

Once a week under about age 10. It’s really not necessary for you children to bath more often and not great for their skin.

Indoctro · 16/03/2022 18:59

Twice a week

She 5 & 7

MyDcAreMarvel · 16/03/2022 19:01

*young

transformandriseup · 16/03/2022 19:02

Twice a week for my 2 year old as she has really bad eczema and very dry skin.
