And how old are they?

Just curious

When I was young i had a bath once a week on a Sunday at school age until I was old enough to shower independently.

My 4 week old has had one proper bath but is wiped down with cotton wool as and when needed

How often are you bathing your kids?

9 month old - every other day with hair wash once a week after swimming (unless there is a food related incident!). Her hair condition has much improved since her cradle cap cleared up and i haven't had to wash her haireas often.

Bootothegoose · 16/03/2022 16:18

DD every other day bath, washed at night with a flannel not on bath night. She has her hair washed twice, sometimes once a week. She has very thick curly hair that frizzes with too much washing. She could easily go longer without hair washing as it never seems to get greasy. We wash hair on a Wednesday after swimming at Sunday before school.

DS every night. He attracts filth and baths always calm him down before bed.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 16/03/2022 16:18

At least every second day, more often if they need it (mud, chlorine, PE, sun cream etc)

Well shower as we removed the bath in favour of a walk in shower last year. 9&10, but its been similar all their lives.

When they were babies/toddlers up to 5/6, bath time was a great playtime.

@monicagellerbing its not grim their hair is actually beautiful. They have afro hair washing it too much dries it out.

Strawmite · 16/03/2022 16:22

4 and 2- bath most nights (5/7 I would say). Hair wash every other night. Dunno how I could do less- they get snot, various food/drinks, paint, dirt etc everywhere so most nights need a good scrub. After a long day in school/nursery and loads of sun cream they also need a good wash in summer and often I have to rinse the scrotty hair around their face that’s stuck down with sun cream. They do look fresh and clean when they leave in the mornings though 😇.

I bathed mine everyday from a couple of months old. They all used to do exploding poos, messy eating, muddy play in so weathers! They also enjoyed lying in the bath in very little water as quite little babies and splashing around so it was a fun, sensory experience (and none have had issues being in water, swimming, going under etc.). The 'fun activity' aspect of a bath lasts till at least 7 or 8 I think! It's a good way to get into bedtime routine and tire them out/ entertain them for 30 mins. Mine are teens now and shower everyday still although we only have clean underwear daily not a whole clean school uniform.

sHREDDIES19 · 16/03/2022 16:23

It's changed with their age so when they were babies, daily as part of their night time routine. As they've gotten older, a few times a week I guess more during warmer months). 6 year old doesn't smell but of course they wash their hands multiple times a day. 10 year old more active and starting to shower daily to prepare for when their hormones kick in! This is quite a refreshing thread for MN as usually the posters are totally neurotic about hygiene (although there's always one!).

SouperNoodle · 16/03/2022 16:25

2 and 4 and they get a bath every other day and have done since they with tiny.

Justcashnosweets · 16/03/2022 16:25

8 year old daughter, twice a week. She has eczema flare ups and our GP said that bathing children every day is completely unnecessary unless they are actually dirty.

tigerbird · 16/03/2022 16:26

DD (8) pretty much always had a quick daily bath between the ages of 6 months and 8 years, as she was always filthy with food, mud, paint, glitter etc. (and was baby led weaned and a very messy eater for years…!) She occasionally skips a bath now on a night when she’s not been doing much, but tbh not usually on a school night as even on a non-PE day it’s quite surprising how grubby she gets on the average day at school.

She normally has a hair wash 2/3 times a week, usually on Wednesday and Sunday evenings, and sometimes on a Friday evening as well depending on how clean it is (Friday is outdoor PE sports).

SnowWhiteLobelia · 16/03/2022 16:26

every other day until aged 9 then every day. Both have my fine hair which need daily attention for it not to become greasy, be it a wet shampoo or dry shampoo.

FarmerKat · 16/03/2022 16:27

Primary school age.

Baths every day. I'd not skip a day for myself so don't for them.

With the exception of the occasional late night etc. Then they'll have one the next morning.

Halllyup17 · 16/03/2022 16:28

Every 2 to 3 days unless they're visibly filthy. Ages 2 and 4.

SundaysinKernow · 16/03/2022 16:29

Generally 8 yr old once per week, 12 yr old twice per week. Hair done at same time. It can be really bad to bath too much - damages skin etc. Obviously wash hands and face morning & evening. We were always bathed once a week till puberty when we needed it more often. Having said that with little ones a bath before bed does seem to help settle them well.

SundaysinKernow · 16/03/2022 16:32

Oh and meant to say clean uniforms once per week unless visibly dirty. Obvs clean underwear etc. Does anyone really do a whole clean uniform everyday??

AuntFlorence · 16/03/2022 16:34

@SundaysinKernow

My child went to school today in previously worn jumper and shirt for the first time ever. I had never considered not sending them in in all fresh clothes. I don't wear yesterday's work clothes back to work

Suzi888 · 16/03/2022 16:34

6
Every day.

tigerbird · 16/03/2022 16:37

Also, (TMI!) but I always found that if DD doesn’t at least have a quick wash and rinse in the bath/shower on the evenings when she’s had a poo during the day, she gets soreish skin around her bum. She wipes fine, but it just seems to need a quick sluice to keep it from getting irritated. Like me she has sensitive skin - not at the level of eczema, but she can’t use bubble bath or bath bombs and it just gets a bit sore around the bottom and vulva if she doesn’t have a quick plain bath most nights.

We don’t use anything apart from plain unscented soap or Simple wash (if anything at all), but it just keeps the skin from getting sore.

Headabovetheparakeet · 16/03/2022 16:37

@AuntFlorence

But young kids don't sweat so it is a bit different.

Why would you wash a jumper after one wear (unless it's visibly dirty) if it's been worn over a shirt?

How do you manage only once a week?? DD pretty much comes home decorated in pen, paint, dust, glue and school dinner even at 8!

They rarely had a Bath but had daily shower with DH or I. Much quicker when we didn’t get home from nursery until 6.30pm.

AuntFlorence · 16/03/2022 16:41

It's the first time in nearly a decade that I have had clothes come home that weren't visibly dirty 😳 @Headabovetheparakeet

My kids are paint and mud loving messy eaters, I have had to bathe them every day since starting nursery, pretty much. Sometimes 1.5 days. We don't seem to make it longer than that

AuntFlorence · 16/03/2022 16:43

I don't wear clean clothes because of the sweat I put on the inside, so much as the dirt I get on the outside. It feels cleaner to me to always wear fresh clothes, regardless of whether I've sweated in them or not. My kids do get pretty sweaty anyway, I think it's because they do lots of sport and activity. Even my pre schooler smells awful sometime 😂
